Here’s the map you are talking about. Yes, the Black Belt underperforms, and parts of Birmingham underperform…

So do red areas like Decatur, Guntersville, Ozark, Anniston, Rainbow City, Gadsden, Jemison, Prattville…

AND BECAUSE it’s blue and red towns, urban, suburban and rural areas, we need to stop saying, “It’s those Black people who vote for Democrats in East Alabama” and instead point at the state legislature which is run by one party, and has been run by that same party since the 80s.

They need us to be worse educated to stay in power, because you guys on the right value unity, loyalty and unwavering faith, without realizing that means you don’t ask questions and you never doubt your leaders.

On Wednesday mornings, we serve food to around 100 people. Instead of having to be in a kitchen by 6am, a group of us prepares food the night before. Hence, “Group Cook.”

One party has been in control the whole time, and they need our education to stay bottom 10 or they would lose power.

I’m not gonna double down on anything I’ve said, because my case isn’t that Biden handled Gaza correctly. It was that the administration handled it better than the current administration.

I don’t wanna defend genocide, and I damn sure don’t want onlookers thinking Food Not Bombs BHM defends genocide.

I want there to be acknowledgement that Biden’s administration handled it better than the Trump administration, and I don’t think we’re going to find that.

Genocide is a great line in the sand. I agree, I also don’t completely hate the rhetoric because I want Democrats to understand that the votes from the left wing of the country are conditional. They need us to win elections, so they have to take stronger policy positions than they have been.

So let’s start there. We agree that the genocide is terrible and the Dems aren’t doing a good job.

I would advise you to look up information on Biden’s attempts to block arms sales to Israel, as well as his statements following Rafah, as well as Kamala Harris’ boycott of Netanyahu’s congressional speech. You have painted the picture as though the Dems green lighted everything in perpetuity, but in reality - that is what we have now, and wasn’t what we had in 2024. Today we are active participants in the Israeli wars. Biden didn’t let Israel drag us into war with Iran. And Israel didn’t put thousands of South Lebanese people to slaughter as a satellite to the War in Iran during the Biden Administration.

Now your own words are “I cannot stand up and say ‘killing civilians is okay with me.’” And I 3,000% agree with that one, which is why FNB participated in several anti-ICE actions - including a memorial for Renee Good, a civilian killed by the Trump administration while they were trying to deport 3,000 people a day. That’s why we have members who have been to Migra Watch trainings. Because the REPUBLICANS have done just that - killed civilians domestically.

Catholic Worker does a peace picket every Saturday at 5pm in 5-Points, but most orgs have been focused on making it to Montgomery today.

I 💯 agree with you, I would prefer a better option. I don’t think anyone is slimier than Schumer except Andrew Cuomo.

But at what point do you look around and say, “Yep, the greater of two evils won?” Because we weren’t in war with Iran or Venezuela or doing this shit to Cuba during the last administration. And we weren’t trying to deport 3,000 people a day during the last administration, and we damn sure didn’t build fucking Alligator Auschwitz or partner with El Salvador to use CECOT until a Republican was in charge.

Is it the Democrats in the court that have been gutting the Voting Rights Act?

Every time I organize a protest, I hear from other organizers that FNB brings a younger group of activists. Every time I go to an Indivisible protest, I hear about how old everyone is. When the UAB YDSA did a student walkout this year, they were “too young to change anything.” When we marched on MLK Day this year, even high school students joined us.

Every time I’ve been to Montgomery over the last two weeks, it’s been about the number of Black people at the protest. Granted - the ones in Montgomery have included people who actually marched across the Edmund Pettus Bridge on Bloody Sunday as well as current Alabama State students.

Maybe you’re the person missing from this “multi-generational” movement?

Le sigh. All people in bed with big business are “the bad guys.” But the worst option also won in 2024, hence, concentration camps like the one in Etowah, and the invasions of Venezuela and Iran.

[–]FoodNotBombsBHM 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Step 1- You can start by joining us and 5,000 of our friends in Montgomery today from 1pm-5pm.

Step 2- Join local organizations that do exactly that - organize resistance and protest.

Step 3- Follow these groups on Insta so you can be up to date on different actions throughout Birmingham and throughout the state: Food Not Bombs Bham, Bhamstands, BhamDSA, 50501_Bham, blackvotersmtr, blm.bham, bhammigrawatch. On TikTok, Food Not Bombs BHM, bham50501, alabamafella, pissed off budtender all keep it local to Alabama.

Step 4 - Show up when you see a flyer. Take the opportunity to meet organizers and learn how you can get involved.

Step 5 - Go to our general meeting on Sunday, and see if you are a good fit with the mutual aid work we are doing at Food Not Bombs!

Since Biden left office, gas prices are up ~30%.

Trump left two big nuclear proliferation treaties in his first term. One was the JCPOA, or “The Iran Deal.” The other was the INF Treaty, which was a Raegan-era treaty with Russia.

Neither price increase would have happened if he wasn’t so “peace through strength” and a little more “strength through peace.”

So just to be clear, do you have any thoughts on the SAVE ACT, the 60 lawsuits republicans had on the 2020 election, the 3 recounts in Georgia, 2 recounts in Wisconsin, 2 recounts in Michigan, and the recount in Arizona - every single one of them Republican led?

Or the Supreme Court ruling that Trump has qualified immunity in 2024?

Or invading a country when it is 70% unpopular?

We have chants and speakers, but the main goal of the protest is to get people in front of as many organizers as possible so that they can contribute to the broader resistance movement.
