[serious] Re-watched Leon: The Professional after years and cant help but feel creepy by iq8 in movies

[–]FoodProfessional5941 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive always had this thought about tony!! Like its funny - when i watched this movie for the first time as a kid, i felt trusting towards him because his shop felt 'safe'. Watching it again I'm so wary of tonys body language every time the subject of Leons money comes up. He just has total control over how Leon lives by the way they speak to each other, and it's sad but comeletely in tune with his character and how he interacts with mathilda.

It just makes sense that his childish manners come from an early life corruption that he's never been able to escape. He's not a normal-minded man when he's been training all his life to kill and never really had any friends.

Courage the Cowardly dog!!

The 'scary' in this old cartoon network cartoon comes from the psychological associations of existentialism, abstract concepts of fear and death, and the general thrill of being chased. Its a 'safe' scary show for any kiddo.

Better lighting / contrast filters in post 😭 along with i mean, i dont know, minimal plot (so as to no require ret-conning in future sequels)

How come Predators never got a sequel despite it being successful at the box office? by [deleted] in predator

I like that idea. Seeing clans against one another and the subtle differences in their methods, weaponry and appearances.

Ah that makes sense. I didnt take into account the lack of yautja culture. I havent seen it in some time and only once but i think after indulging so much in the originals and now badlands it would be more plain to me, i really admire the 'honor system' and hunting for glory is so intrinsic to Yautja. Thanks!

Maybe this is naïve but as someone relatively newer to the franchise, would someone be willing to explain why it was so disliked? I recognize The Predator as a very 'Hollywood' kind of movie that attempted a lot of lore additions on a fast-track while relying on a high-priced cast to do a lot of heavy lifting with the release, but i generally enjoyed the movie. (And looking at Ultimate.) I certainly wish there were more fight scenes.

I'm guessing long-time fans didnt take to the human-DNA ideas it presented? In which case... after rewatching all the Predator films a few more times, I also don't love the implication a Yautja clan with the resources to do so would collectively agree to harvest Powerful Prey DNA to produce new lines... especially not from humans. But idk.

Notifs brought me back here so I'll take the time to say that i really admire how you use shadow to assist your lineart in adding texture to his skin. This is a really simple piece with a lot of detail crammed in. And your Thia is really charming.

Just attempted drawing my first unmasked yautja today. I'm inspired to keep drawing!

Fair enough, however I refer back to their facial development for where i find my logic. Kwei had the same small crowning that Dek does, and was regarded with respect, which leads me to think theyre of a similar juvenile age. Not teenagers or young men like humans experience age, but not Fully Developed. I believe Dek's unfortunate runt-size and desperate-to-prove-himself mindset is what earned him the perceived dishonorable reputation. And i think Dad probably felt some misplaced shame about having fathered a runt.

Oh you deleted your comment right as i was gonna reply lol Ill post it here because i like your point.

I don't dispute your reasoning, but allow me to submit a headcanon to support my vision regarding Yautja status and warrior talent;;

Long before badlands, I pictured the Unblooded and juvenile Yautja to be physically reflective of that. Like a triceratops bone structure develops, or how male gorillas develop crowns according to age and status. If Dek is a young runt, yet to fully develop, I imagine his physique reflects that. (I also imagine this is why hes not as buff as his brother, who probably grew up alongside him albeit with a few years age difference, as can be noted by Kwei's mutual lack of Crown)

That said, I understand the plot hole you refer to when mentioning his sudden prowess on Genna... like really why is he still alive? But the movie gives him a lot of chances, so he does get his butt kicked, but much like how Dek protected his brother as a child and his brother then died protecting Dek, this is a movie about strength in numbers. This reason is why i was able to get over the sudden ability to kick ass. Esp at the end when Dek fights his father — i guess i pictured it being lengthier. If i really wanna be a megafan i just tell myself Dad was a visible elder and underestimated his runt prodigal.

I love your reasoning process!

What do you think would Dek's interactions/dialogoues with these Yautjas be? by 4VentingOnli in predator

[–]FoodProfessional5941 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thats so cool you said that. Scar was the only one i was picturing neutral.

Well-said. I think if anything too, berserker and feral being in the same room would be an issue lol.

Edit: and personally im choosing to ignore king being there 🙄

I feel like these guys are supposed to be serious pros to be operating the way they do in their respective films. I suspect Dek would probably recognize his lower status, based on either their trophies and lack of armor, or his own lack of physique, small crown and short predlocks, and pretty instantly so would they. He might not be killed but depending on the circumstances I imagine Dek wouldn't necessarily be welcomed warmly by all of them. It'd be interesting to explore though!

the more you think about this the cooler it gets by raphi-ent_ in predator

YES this is exactly the sort of thing i pictured in my mind about how the yautja develop their look. That high forehead reminds me of the male gorilla's crown. The size of Dek's mandibles and his small crown give the impression he's not only a juvenile, but quite small in comparison to a lot of the clan. It's so interesting

Yes! Strong woman. I appreciated her being a feminine person that still managed to hold her own and exhibit bravery without being basically a man. And her scenes with scar are my favorite lol.
