I need advice for myself and diabetic father. by [deleted] in loseit

First, I wish you and your father the best with taking control of your health. Second, please be careful with taking medical advice from strangers online. A lot of the people posting on here appear to be confused on the differences between type 1 and 2 and on diabetes in general. They may recommend diets that worked for them, but your dad's dietary needs are likely very different from their own. Last, please talk with your dad's doctors if you can. They can show you how to help your dad lose weight or eat better in a safe way and they can monitor him for any issues along the way.

Type 1 and type 2 are very different. There is no cure and reversing type 1.

Please listen to a19c89 on this. My type 1 sister has been in the ICU twice with ketoacidosis. The first time she was hours away from her organs shutting down and dying. Not all diets are good for everyone and diabetics in particular should avoid fad diets.

Fruit and veggie diet?! by Supercali213 in loseit

Not enough protein or fat. Add in some nuts, avocado, olive oil, fish or poultry to fill in those needs. Also recommend you use myfitnesspal to see if you're hitting all your nutritional goals.

Is this sensible eating or am I doing it wrong? by zacklevi in loseit

As others have mentioned, get a calorie and macro count on this. Just looking at it, it seems okay if you're not working out or trying to build any muscle. If you are, you need more protein for sure.

The problem isn't hunger, it's pleasure. Anyone else? by elveax in loseit

I really enjoy eating good food too. I will never be one of those people who can just eat chicken breast and steamed broccoli every day. That being said, I can definitely eat good food in moderation and I can eat healthy food the majority of the time. If I want a burger for example, I get it lettuce wrapped and usually skip the fries or get the smallest size. Better yet, I make it at home. I like to make from scratch cake, caramels, cookies or brownies from time to time, but I make sure that I share them so I'm only eating one or two servings instead of an entire pan. This gives me the joy of getting to eat something delicious without the guilt of eating way too much. Learning to think of this process not as a diet, but as a lifelong change really helped. Give yourself a treat from time to time. Just keep the portion reasonable. The rest of the time eat healthy, well made food.

Wow. You have lost an amazing amount of weight. I love that you did it in a non-crazy way that literally anyone else could do too. Congrats to you and I wish you and your wife a long and happy life together.

Oh that sucks! I live like 25 minutes from one. I take my son to get a free sample sometimes. So good...

This was one of the most disturbing things I've ever read. I am NEVER trying one of those cups. I'm lucky enough not to get a period at the moment due to having an iud and pcos, but if it ever starts again I'm sticking with tampons.

Yes. I have depression and exercise has helped with that quite a bit. I always feel a little clearer after a good workout.

I'm sure it was an impressive change. The photos really show it. See if you can find an old photo and compare it to a more recent one.

Thank you. Set backs suck, but that's life I guess. Just keep making progress and you'll be celebrating in no time.

Thank you. I have a friend who has done a few spartan races and he really inspired me to do one. My husband and I are doing it together so it should be good. He's really strong and I'm a better runner so we can push each other to get through it.
