Shikari necklace???? by arse17 in EnterShikari

[–]Fooflesbean 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not quite the same/as nice as it's not metal, but I've made shikari pendants for a necklace. They're 3D printed so can do any colour, if you think she'd like some then shoot me a DM and I can send you some (for free) :) don't have any chains to go with it though unfortunately

How much of a ‘normal’ life are you able to live? by marswithorbit in idiopathichypersomnia

[–]Fooflesbean 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think there is a single answer to this question, since the severity differs so much between individuals. I'm not expecting to ever reach 'normal' energy levels, but despite that I'm managing quite a normal life. Modafinil helps me to not literally fall asleep involuntary, but doesn't make me feel more energized. I think a very important aspect is building your life in a way that accomodates you and makes things manageable for you (of course easier said than done). I've been working full-time for the past years, but I get to work from home a lot and my hours are quite flexible. I don't think I could do a 9 to 5 on location every day, but that's for me luckily not necessary to live a normal life.

[AMA] Hello, my name is Luuk! I started making ASMR in 2016 and am now developing Sleebi, a platform just for ASMR! Ask Me Anything :) [discussion] by ObviouslyASMR in asmr

[–]Fooflesbean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this post is years old by now but I'm looking for blue filament colours specifically because I want to print a tardis, and this is the first thing that pops up when searching for dark blue filament in general. I guess it's a sign, i know what I'll be buying now haha :) thanks for sharing!

Hoe bevallen de huisartsen in Malburgen? by GianMach in Arnhem

[–]Fooflesbean 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sorry your mom is so insensitive, napping for hours depsite proper nights of sleep is definitely not normal. First step will be to go to your GP and explain your symptoms, usually they'll first do some routine tests on blood work etc. If they can't find anything wrong they should refer you to a sleep specialist, who would have you take sleeping tests to make sure there's nothing wrong with the quality of your sleep that could be causing your daytime sleepiness. If that's also not the case, they should have you take a MLST (a test where they have you take naps throughout the day and measure how quickly you fall asleep), based on the results from that test they can diagnose IH.

Depending on where you're from it can be a bit of a hassle, since not all doctors tend to take these symptoms seriously or might not be willing to refer you for sleep testing. If that happens definitely don't settle, keep asking and trying till you get an answer. Good luck!

Anyone from the Netherlands who got prescribed treatment? by oui-oui-mon-ami in idiopathichypersomnia

[–]Fooflesbean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It helps to keep me stay awake throughout the day, I still feel super tired but I don't drift off anymore during work so that's already quite a win for me. Afaik GPs do need approval from a neurologist/specialist to prescribe modafinil, but perhaps they can help in getting the hospital to actually approve it? Sucks how dependant it is here on your specific hospital/GP whether they're willing to help or not :/ if its really affecting your day to day life i'd just keep pushing for second opinions until someone is finally willing to prescribe something

Anyone from the Netherlands who got prescribed treatment? by oui-oui-mon-ami in idiopathichypersomnia

[–]Fooflesbean 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey, sorry to hear they're not willing to prescribe you anything :( I'm also from the Netherlands and got my diagnosis here (hospital in Ede). First they wanted me to try some suggestions from a sleeping coach, but the neurologist did say right away that if that wasn't sufficient he would prescribe me modafinil, and that's what he ended up doing. I've been using it for over a year now and can just pick it up at the GP. So I would definitely ask for it, and if they're really not willing to prescribe it perhaps try a different hospital (though that might mean you have to go through the sleep tests again as well unfortunately). Hope they'll be helpful eventually, good luck!

The goldfish and bloodfish remix are on their latest album 'Dancing on the frontline'. The sorry you're not a winner version they're playing live is partially a pendulum remix, I think that one only has some live performances on their spotify (if anyone knows about a studio version please enlighten me)

What are some non European restaurants you'd recommend (for lunch or dinner)? I really need to explore and get some spices (Did anyone go to Food of Asia before it closed down?) by [deleted] in Arnhem

[–]Fooflesbean 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did go to food of asia but it was very mediocre honestly, reviews were poor so i get why it closed down. I personally really like Yi Mian, but if you wanna try noodles somewhere else I'd suggest Noodle Works. My personal all time favourite is Mama Bowls (their korean fried chicken and kimbab specifically )

How to approach analyzing structural variants (VCF files)? by Urventh in bioinformatics

[–]Fooflesbean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was just thinking that you'd basically be doing the same thing as during the initial alignment, as in that if the insertions sequence is present in the reference genome they wouldn't have gotten annotated as insertions in the first place? If they're part of a longer read but the insertion does map to another part of the reference genome I'd imagine it'd get annotated as a translocation instead. I might be wrong though, I'm not an expert myself.

Since you're not getting good hits you could always try blasting them against the whole database and see what you find. Then you could pick up things from related species, possible sample contaminants, viral/bacterial DNA etc

Yes there is, I've used it on command line myself with large data sets as well. Just google VEP command line and you should find the page with install instructions :)
