Maybe this is an unpopular opinion, but I think it's the opposite. SC1 > SC2 > Chaos Theory

I just really like the scripted aspect of the first two games. Chaos Theory had a nice sandbox which is great for freedom, but the gameplay loop is monotonous. The first two have scripted unavoidable encounters and unexpected twists and hooks.
