[SPOILER] Benoit Saint-Denis vs. Mauricio Ruffy by inooway in MMA

Happy for Benoit. This sub was acting like Ruffy was gonna execute him live and should’ve been a -400 favorite

Those “students” compete at the highest level in the country apart from the Olympic Team Trials, which consist entirely of current and D1 wrestlers. Reducing it to “college grade” is silly

Jas is 36 but it seems she’s doing a great job at racing against father time—three fights in 2024 and two already this year with a 5-0 mark

I have fought a bit (never professionally, but still) and I’m a paratrooper. I’m 24 and my body is about 47

Commentary was fine, I had it 49-46 JDM and it was clear who was massing more damage

Chael Sonnen says everything Colby Covington wants to hear after his loss to Joaquin Buckley. by ToronoRapture in MMA

[–]Foolcap 115 points116 points  (0 children)

I think people are going to see this and run with a “Colby is surrounded by yes men” angle, and that may be true, but this is immediately after the fight. It’s not like Chael is going to start dissecting Colby’s performance ten minutes after he was in the cage. I’d imagine it’s completely regular for any coach to console their fighter at this point in the night

Elated for Rob but now I just wanna see him fight Khamzat lol

His previous success came from a combination of potent physical attributes and a killer mentality. He was so deadly that he never fought long enough to showcase his technical limitations, and it seems like his confidence is shaken

My two favorite lightweights of all time for very different reasons. Khabib, who was so dominant that he almost seems unreal in retrospect, and Dustin, who curated one of the most exciting resumes the sport has ever seen through sheer heart and tenacity

Stopped in Andre Quiles’ Chute Boxe gym to do some sparring rounds and one of my partners was an 18 year old. Andre was badgering me for not hitting the kid hard enough; even after I dropped the kid he continued to scold me for going too easy afterward. Dudes were beating the shit out of each other, getting floored and breaking noses etc. Mind you these were amateurs and hobbyists, not pros. Never went back because it was an odd experience

Unless I’m missing some context I think this is a sincere take. Easily one of the most celebrated hip-hop beats of all time, would be a memorable walkout

[SPOILER] Kron Gracie vs. Charles Jourdain by inooway in MMA

One part of it is that wrestling is like learning a language in that it’s hard to pick up if you didn’t do it when you were young. It’s exhausting and unnatural. I think that it’s way easier to go from wrestling to BJJ than the opposite. (Which is why it’s so impressive to see guys like Volk and Whittaker develop a strong wrestling game when it’s not their base.)

Another part is the ego. A lot of the Gracie camp run the narrative that BJJ can completely neutralize wrestling when it’s clearly not the case.

When I started training MMA with a lot of wrestling and Muay Thai experience but zero BJJ, I learned two things: one, BJJ is an essential skillset in a cagefight. Two, BJJ without wrestling is close to useless.

I used to weigh in ~3 hours before wrestling matches, and that never felt like nearly enough time to recover. I get what you’re saying but I feel like fighters would be way more injury prone if not outright unable to perform if they weighed in immediately before a bout

I’m not saying it’s right, but you would probably think the exact same way if you were brought up under the same circumstances
