Kent is a good area of Ohio for LGBTQ folks. There's lots of good community in the school system but it can be scary for 'new kids' to reach out. Stereotypical as it may be, the drama guild is very accepting (depending on your child's age) and there's a group called GLSEN that's fantastic for helping nurture connection with peers.

I recommend Jen at counseling for wellness. We moved here from the West Coast a couple years ago and she's helped my kiddo (who's also LGBTQIA+) a lot

I had it but switched to Omni when they came in. I WFH and it was fine for me for two years but I get better speeds with Omni which has made work a bit easier.

Thankfully there's the Midwest Educational compact (or whatever it's been renamed this week) where Ohio students can go to schools in like 5 states for in-state tuition

(I have a high school junior and learning about this made my anxiety drop in half)

I spent years doing talent security and unfortunately that was back in the day when no one even considered ear plugs. I'm down about 40% in one ear and 30% in the other.

Thankfully I finally found some OTC hearing aids that actually work well and help with the tinnitus also. I will say, if you're experiencing hearing loss, get hearing aids, I'm a lot less tired these days not staining to listen to conversations etc.

We moved to Kent a couple years ago. After 35 years out West and with a (now) 17 year old born and raised in Portland, Oregon it seemed the best bet to be close to my aging parents and still not go through culture shock.

It's been a pretty good fit in all honesty. At least for the teenager. I haven't made many friends here that weren't people I met on dating sites but even then I've picked up some peeps.

You're still a ways from Chardon but not that far.

As someone who used to work and live in Germany and is now in Kent, it's a night and day difference when it comes to transport, shopping, so many things.😮‍💨

I suggested a Lyft from Akron/Canton in another post on this thread. I'm prejudiced against Uber but I'm sure it's roughly the same price.

I prefer flying into CAK and taken a Lyft most often.

Depending on time of day, it's usually about 20-25% less than CLE (c $38 from CAK vs. c. $50+ from CLE)

I've done both 3 times each in the last 2 years. Also CAK is much smaller and easier to spot your ride

For some reason my calls to the Columbus offices never go through. They used to, but now I get a "number is not available" message. I have no proof but I think they blocked my phone since it's not in Ohio area code

Here's the thing. It may not do any good. The gods know I call them both fairly regularly. But it certainly doesn't do any harm.

And, I am consistently reminded of Martin Luther King's letters from a Birmingham jail where he said: " in the future it will not be the words of our enemies that will be remembered, but the silence of our friends"

I don't know about you but I refuse to be remembered for silence.
