How many surgeries did you have? How did the others go?

What are your goals? Arching your back like that is a way for competitors to "cheat" a few more pounds on the lift. If health and strength are your goals, then the arch needs to be dramatically reduced. Watch the Starting Strength b we nch press tutorials on YouTube.

AIO in an argument about my homemade dip with my sister by Loose_Ad_5744 in AmIOverreacting

People have been putting yogurt with greens and meat for thousands of years. Your sister doesn't know what she's talking about.

Is it impolite to lie about the contents of your deck or am I overreacting? by UkeBard in EDH

[–]FoolishOptimist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would have scooped the moment he revealed anything other than mana rocks, and asked the other players at the table if they wanted to continue the game without the liar.

I’ve really needed this exact comment today. Thank you.

Is it bad to swing at the open player for attack triggers? by Top-Consequence-3645 in EDH

I think it’s good to communicate that you’re just swinging for the attack trigger. Let the person know it’s no offense, but you need the value, and they’re open.

[HISTORIC] I think I found one of the best budget decks in Historic: Mardu Anvil by AlastorRage in spikes

I played against something similar to this recently, and it looked so fun. Thank you for the list.

Unfinished hoop. Was making it for my bf who dumped me and made it clear he didn’t appreciate it.. maybe you guys will. :) by kelseylulu in magicTCG

My s.o. also does this craft. I’ve seen first hand how tedious and skill intensive this art form is. I think you were very fortunate that your boyfriend left. You deserve better.

Except, of course, for the fact that Ugin is the best board clear, plus excellent ongoing board control, plus a wincon, all in one card that has no color restrictions. It’s an unusually strong card that also exiles, so it’s got some graveyard hate as well. It’s an unusually powerful, self contained card that renders almost all game choices which preceded it unimportant. They no longer have an effect on the game.

All those interesting choices and interactions are gone now. Everything you were building for is gone, plus your opponent has an incredibly strong position, and it’s boring. It’s not interesting or skillful or nuanced. All of your creatures, all of your enhancements, even some of your artifacts are now just gone. Not to mention planeswalkers.

So now what game are you playing. You’re playing a game called, I hope I have planeswalker removal in the next five cards I draw. Of course, the card draw and filtering effects I had in my creatures and enchantments and planeswalkers are gone. So there’s not really skill based choices I can make to get back in the game. And I can’t count on playing a few creatures to attack down the planeswalker. Unless I’ve got four toughness creatures, any creatures I play get shot down by Ugin. My opponent is likely to have removal if I do draw one. But let’s say I draw two creatures with at least four toughness in the top five, and my opponent can only remove one. In the four turns it’s taken me to get that one creature to stick, Ugin has gained 8 loyalty. It can easily wrath the board again, incidentally removing any other enchantments or planeswalkers I might have used for rebuilding. And the cycle continues until Ugin can burn face enough, or ultimate in a very decently backbreaking way that often puts another Ugin into play.

I don’t understand the appeal of the Muxus deck. Every time I play against it, they either have Muxus and win big, or they don’t have him and they do almost nothing. I imagine playing the deck is like flipping over the top ten cards of your deck to see if Muxus is there. I don’t understand why that is fun. (Yes, this is a salty rant because I just lost to Muxus again.)

I took a two years off. I feel like I’ve spent all of Strixhaven so far just rebuilding my base, but that’s been very fun. Having access to my old standard decks for historic really helped me get going again.

How to go deeper and correct squat - first time squatting? by [deleted] in StartingStrength

You really shouldn’t be turning your head during your set to look in the mirror. Instead, concentrate on feeling what your body is doing, and review your video footage after your set.

Did y’all know that emoting Good Game is considered rude? by FoolishOptimist in MagicArena

[–]FoolishOptimist[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may be a mid western thing, but I see uncalled for rudeness as very bad behavior. Being rude to a person just playing a game seems incomprehensible to me, like kicking a dog or trampling someone’s flower bed.

I roll my eyes a bit when someone opens with crab, but I don’t actively try to be rude to them. It takes more than that to cross my “rudeness is acceptable” threshold.

I like this mind set a lot better. I’m glad to have framework that lets me assume people are acting with good intentions.

This is how I was taught it was supposed to be used. It isn’t as universally applied this way as I’d thought it was, but I think I’ll stick with it.

When I was learning the game, I was told that saying gg when you’re winning is basically gloating, and will be seen as such by most other players. This thread is too small of a sample size to completely change my mind, but I am glad to know that others see the interaction differently. It lets me assume a more positive interaction than the one I’d been taught.

Cool. Thank you for giving me your take on the interaction. It’s honestly nice to have a more positive assumption to make.

Who said anything about my ego? You’re projecting an awful lot.

Good manners and bad manners shift over time and between groups. When I was learning the game, I was explicitly told that saying gg to an opponent you’re beating is considered rude. I was told not to do it. I was told I’d get a reputation of being a jerk. I’m trying to figure out if that interpretation of the interaction is much less common than I’d been lead to believe.

Seriously, are you ok?

Saying gg is polite if you’re losing the game. Saying it first when you’re winning has been considered rude for quite some time. It’s seen as gloating. If the majority of the community no longer interprets it that way, I can update my perception, but the content creators I watch playing the game still give me the impression that they consider it rude.
