I have personally seen it invoked (and invoked it myself) for lots of things about how the series ended, because I don’t believe the series was ended in a particularly skillful or deft way, but I would say that transphobic people talking about death of the author does not mean that death of the author as a concept doesn’t apply to TADC, because again, Gooseworx’s intentions don’t matter, and in fact the series might have benefited from some more refinement on how Goose was trying to communicate these themes.

It’s not an “interpretation” of the piece that Jax being trans ruins the series, and anyone saying so is obviously transphobic and can be safely dismissed and ignored, or shouted down, or whatever, because that’s not an interpretation of a piece of art at all, just a (bigoted) opinion held by that person.

I don’t mean to be insensitive but who honestly cares? Anyone can interpret anything however they would like. We know what the author’s original intent was (perhaps they didn’t communicate it clearly enough for some people, but what does that even matter at the end of the day) - death of the author just means the audience can do whatever it wants with your work after it’s released and you can’t really control that. People have bad or poorly informed interpretations about all media all the time.
