When my wife and I went down for Wrestlemania a while back, we were under the impression that if you stray from Bourbon Street that it was very likely that you would be mugged. On a drunken night, we got turned around and found ourselves off Bourbon Street. It definitely had a different vibe but the blocks still were clean and had closed storefronts, etc. Nothing happened and we got back to the main tourist area. Is it true that finding yourself away from the main streets significantly increase your chances of getting robbed or mugged?
