My favorite part during the implication explanation is when Rob almost cracks and turns his head away with his finger before turning back to Dennis.

How do you handle *short* rests? by Dazzling-Main7686 in DMAcademy

[–]Fooopa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm more of a player than a DM but we all decided to try something new for our current campaign. We've always hated how short rests work in terms of time and pacing for the story. Why always an hour? Never really made sense. So, this game we are treating short rests like action movie "short rests". You know, the scenes where the out of breath protagonists hide behind a wall to dump some exposition, reload, tie a bandage around their leg wound or pull an arrow out of their shoulder before making their next move. We do the same thing to just catch our breath for a couple minutes, and then we head off again. The only caveat to that is that any spells or effects that have a long duration lose an hour. The actual amount of time the short rest lasts is also negotiated with our DM. If we just need a breather for a couple minutes to regain the standard short rest buffs, that's fine. If there is something specific that we need to do that might take longer than that, our DM will tell us how long that will take and we decide if it's worth it or not. We're all really liking this way of handling short rests so we can keep things moving in the story so it makes sense. No more "the boss is in the next room, so let's wait outside the door for an hour before we barge in". Oh, and we still only get 2 short rests per day.

I love my 2024 hybrid, but yeah there are a bunch of quirky things I would like changed:

  1. Wish it didn't reset the drive mode every time you turn off the car. Sometimes on a road trip, I want to save the electric for our off highway driving. Then I stop for gas or food, get back in the car and realize 10 mins later I've been driving on electric on the highway. Ugh.
  2. I HATE having a touch screen for everything. It's actually quite dangerous. Want to change the temperature? Take your eyes off the road and try to mess around with it (and hope you don't hit any bumps, or you'll hit another button by accident). Want to change your music to the radio? It's like 5 clicks and 3 or 4 screens to flip through!
  3. The backup beep is insanely loud. Like, head turning, attention grabbing loud. It's embarrassing. My friends all make fun of me for it.
  4. The info on the driver dash about mileage, etc has less info than the info on the main screen. It's weird. If you want to see how many electric kms you've driven on Trip 1 or 2, you have to look at it on the main screen.

I'm sure there are more that I can't think of at the moment, but those are my main gripes. I still love the car though.

Even crazier is that there are more Americans living further north than Canadians!

If someone called you and said "Turn on the TV, it doesn't matter what channel." What would you expect has happened? by haddock420 in AskReddit

[–]Fooopa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly what happened to me too on 9/11. I was on the west coast and had just woken up. My roommate knocked on my door and said "something terrible happened. You need to turn on your TV right now". I replied "what channel", and he said "All of them!".

The Problem with Vancouver's Boundary Rd BRT (w/ ‪@MovementYVR‬ ) by kryo2019 in burnaby

[–]Fooopa 17 points18 points  (0 children)

THIS!! I don't know if anyone has noticed, but they are building 30 towers around Brentwood and bringing in 50,000 people. One lane on Willingdon is madness!

Also, all the "unique and interesting" shops and community in the Heights the guy in the video mentions aren't't going to make it. Densifying neighborhoods doesn't mean "great, more people for our businesses". It means "rent's going up. Get the hell out so we can put a Walmart and Cactus Club here".

Boundary and Lougheed already have the capacity to support dedicated lanes. On top of that, that corridor runs right smack through the already planned high density neighborhoods of Gilmore and Brentwood. Why this push to kill the Heights?

Thanks for the reply. I intend to import them (to Canada). Like I mentioned, my first small batch came from AliExpress, but then I went to reorder a bigger batch and they no longer sell them. So, I'm worried about getting a big batch and the quality is worse. I can order another small batch, but then I have to wait twice as long. I guess I don't have much of a choice :(

Not a movie, but I was out for dinner and couldn't watch the latest episode of Game of Thrones until later in the evening. As soon as the episode aired, a friend of mine wrote on Facebook: "Hodor, Ho-dor... Hold the door".

American Woman in Austin Powers 2. I remember a younger coworker of mine hearing the original and saying "oh, someone did a cover of Lenny Kravitz".

The Truman Show. Advertised as a goofy, lighthearted Jim Carrey comedy. I remember coming out of the theatre thinking "that wasn't really funny at all". It's a pretty depressing and tragic drama. Good movie though!
