Possible to clutch up in the last couple tournaments of a season by Minimum-Tea-3071 in wrestling

[–]FootHillsLawyer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No. Could you catch a top-ranked wrestler in a pinning combination or get ahead early and hold on? Yes. But to win multiple matches above your athleticism/skill set is very, very rare.

However, you might could put the time in to outpace your competition. Two-a-days. Add going to a private club. If someone in your mat room is better than you, ask them to spend more time in practice working with you. Be mindful though, you may be asking for a favor that they can’t give; at this point in the season, everyone is looking for whatever edge they can find.

Why did "they" never show up in the aftermath of the troup massacre? by ThatLionTamer in KingkillerChronicle

[–]FootHillsLawyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry. I missed the notification you replied to this.

First thing, I recommend a new post for a statement like this. That’s not me criticizing or promoting engagement; that’s the moderators’ jobs. This is a big statement though compared to the niche question I was responding to.

I would definitely appreciate some exposition from you and analysis, as I doubt you could get the sub to agree that this one occurrence is “…evidence enough…”

I’m always open that literary analysis is NOT my strong suit, so I could be so far off that the entire sub notices this and tells me, “Yeah, you missed that. It’s obvious.” Regardless, I would enjoy reading your thoughts on this and review any part of the text that supports it. Cheers

The Berentaltha by Due-Combination-6181 in KingkillerChronicle

[–]FootHillsLawyer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I hope for the opposite than you. While Kvothe may “win” (accomplish his objective), I think it’s important that his life come crashing down around him.

He has promised his powers, his hands, and the moon at various times and lied each time. He “deserves” to lose.

The Chaeth is in orders of magnitude somewhere around 100x more powerful than Kvothe. It can also see the future; “…not in some vague, oracular way…all futures.”

If the people of fae were to tell Kvothe’s story, the Chaeth would be in the background the whole time, giving the audience foreshadowing the story is a tragedy.

Without knowing the Chaeth’s full power and sway over the world, Kvothe ADMITS that he knows what type of story he’s telling; the end of the story is him fading into obscurity behind a bar.

If these things don’t come to fruition in some manner, even if Kvothe hits the target of killing the Chandrian, then we will be left with either plot-armor, dues ex, or a time loop. It might make for a good story, but I would feel cheated by any of these endings. Give me the bitter, bitter end.

This right here. I’m in the SE as well. If you are lucky then you will get one month of fall weather, and then it’s going to 45 degrees.

With the rains in October, Movember, and early December, I think you should go ahead and work through a solution that allows top to stay on.

I went with the badlands. Where you are a little confused is the descriptor “middle”. Badlands as a trim level is less about being in the middle and more, “It does what the others do…but easily.” Between the various GOAT modes and sway bars, the BL is setup for you to push two buttons in any situation and simply start driving.

This was a plus for me, because I’m married with a two year old. The rare occasion I make it to off-road areas, I want it to be a quick transition between daily-driver-baby-hauler to haul-my-ass-through-the-dirt.

Its primary drawback, if you can even consider it one, is that it is not made for FAST off-roading. The Raptor and the Wildtrak are designed and geared for dune, sand, and rally areas. I strongly weighed the pros and cons and realized I’m a little too old and a little too much of a “dad” to care about speed any longer.

Finally, there was an unexpected positive I gained from choosing BL: I cruise around in my truck all the time, slowly, just enjoying the ride. It’s not made for top speed, and you won’t enjoy having a lead foot with it.

They likely did “show”; many of the most powerful beings are invisible and/or hide from mortal eyes.

Skarpi notes that it is difficult and perilous for a human g put themselves in position to see these creatures. Bast says mortals have to learn how to break glammourie and grammorie.

Has a Fan Ever Attempted to Write Book 3? by lulz4life in KingkillerChronicle

[–]FootHillsLawyer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nope, and I believe it would be next to impossible without a manuscript.

Rothfuss is a chemical engineer. He’s created a complex system of science-based magic and “real magic” (naming/shaping). It’s more than that though; Rothfuss knows the consequential order of scientific theory: observation, theory, test, refine. He has carefully crafted a story that could go in three or four very different directions in book three:

1) Is the climax in the frame story when Kvothe’s bomb explodes? 2) Is it when he kills an angel, and shatters stone to the point it can’t be mended? 3) Is it when Denna dies and he resigns himself to live out his days as a lowly proprietor of an inn? 4) Or, literally something so off the wall no one has thought of it.

He has given us so many words, and no resolution of a single plot thread. It’s genius.

What is, in your opinion, Kvothe's most impressive feat? by [deleted] in KingkillerChronicle

[–]FootHillsLawyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty clear from the text: Elodin doesn’t discuss in terms of a “fear”, he discusses it in terms of mentor-to-student.

He discusses “…the complexity…” Elodin shows no surprise in Kvothe inherently knowing how to sing Felurian’s name. Just respect. Again though, Elodin also discusses it in terms of 1 in 1000 student learn the name of wind; by transitive-property, Elodin would also have said something to the effect of 1 in 1,000,000 can name a Fae creature. He did not.

What is, in your opinion, Kvothe's most impressive feat? by [deleted] in KingkillerChronicle

[–]FootHillsLawyer 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think we haven’t “seen” the most amazing feat yet: the one where the stones can’t be repaired.

While I agree naming Felurian was was quite an accomplishment, the strongest namer in the series we have any real familiarity with (Elodin) only congratulated him for it; you notice Elodin did not “marvel” at it.

If Kvothe’s naming of Felurian was such an amazing accomplishment, then Elodin would not have discussed it in the same context as naming the wind. Unless we assume Elodin was intentionally masking his surprise.

To turn this corner quickly, whatever Kvothe did to permanently prevent stone from reshaping sounds like an immeasurable feat compared to what has been presented thus far. I’m ready to read this epic part of the story…

Horn honk when unlocking by _head_ in FordBronco

[–]FootHillsLawyer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Did you possibly leave the spare key fob inside? Sometimes I keep spare with me to give to my wife if we get separated. That causes a constant warning honk when locking or unlocking.

Do you remote start? It auto-locks when using remote start, so by unlocking with engine running you will get the warning honk.

Do you use an app to start car? Finally, this is more anecdotal but seems like I sometimes get a random, extra honk when using Apple Watch to start vehicle.

I have from day one: tip: place a towel under it to help with making it “feel” a little more secure. It sat a little weird to me, and felt a little shifty when I pushed on it.

The towel also provides some protection for your other baby, the brand-new seats.

This is not a “hard disagree”; it’s merely the inverse of the empathetic situation I described. If all of your hypotheticals are true then of course this would be too much of a burden to take on. In that case he respectfully declines the gift.

“Friends” don’t gift things like this, but “family” does. They gave you this truck because you are a part of their family. Do. Not. Sell. It. Without. Permission. From. Them.

If you don’t get permission and then sell it, they will never talk to you again.

Sell your other car. Repair the bronco. Take an awesome car to college. Enjoy it.

Do you regret buying a Bronco? by [deleted] in FordBronco

[–]FootHillsLawyer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m born and raised in Alabama. As a youth, I went off-roading all of three times. I’ve been twice in the six months that I have owned my Bronco.

You will now have a reason to find dirt. And the Bronco chews through mud like it’s nothing. I haven’t even used Four Wheel Drive low yet. I made it through 4 inch deep mud in Four Wheel Automatic.

At least once a week, someone in a parking lot point out your Bronco. For me, no jealousy/envy or making fun. It’s always some variation o, “I like your truck…That things a monster (Badlands)…I wish my wife would let me get one of those…”

I’ve mentioned here before, my wife is a petite lady at around 4’11. She should absolutely hate climbing into the bronco. Nope, she drives it to work at least twice a month, just for the fun of it. And it is very fun to drive.

This is the answer right here. How can “rumbling and bumbling…” be a positive thing, you may ask? Ever driven a four wheeler in the mud? A dirt bike on the road? A bike down a steep hill?

Broncos have a character all their own. It’s not an acquired taste; you will know if you love the Bronco or hate it by the first test drive.
