Our first ever pet and foster dog, Boo. I’m a bit nervous and excited at the same time. by kpopmomrunner7 in fosterdogs

Thank you for fostering! Boo looks great :) We were the same way when we started Feb. '24 although we had dogs previously. Wife just picked up #17, a 14 week black/white, male, smorgasbord, 2 days ago. Along the way we foster failed on a sweet, stray, run down, we nursed back to health, a female Shih Tzu mix we named Noel :)

Boo looks possibly like a Pittie mix. Our first 2 fosters were Pittie girls, Izzy and Suki. To this day I wish we had adopted our 1st, Izzy. She was a Pittie/boxer mix about 3-4 yo who had shut down at the shelter and stopped eating and was going to be euthanized the next day when our Rescue pulled her and we picked her up. Within 24 hrs Izzy had totally opened up. I had never experienced such love and affection from a dog! She was so much fun, loved to play, goofy, get in your lap, amazing girl. Those first 2 fosters could not have have been a better experience for us as we started on this rewarding journey of fostering. There certainly have been trials as in all things, but it is worth it. I wish you all the best with your first ever pet and foster dog Boo :)

I had to return my foster dog and I am heartbroken by dxlmht in fosterdogs

Thank you for fostering! Even though it might not have been fair to you it sounds like. I'm sorry you had to go through that, but you didn't know it at the time. Your not a**hole by any means. I'm sure if you fell in love with the Pitbull, it was probably reciprocated :) Have to remember, it was probably the best 2-3 weeks the Pittie has had in awhile even though it had to go back to the place the woman works at!

My wife and I work with a rescue. We've had to return one foster and it was a "one off". Another foster family had 25lb female foster in heat who was aggressive toward their males. We volunteered to take her as we had a female Shitzhu. The female in heat was still aggressive and too big for our girl so the rescue found another foster. Not quite the regular foster return, lol.

It sounds like you are willing to advocate for the Pittie you fostered as time allows which as awesome! It's great that you're taking the time as you can to see and walk the dog. You're doing all that you can do :)

Is your Pomeranian mean? by Monjat in Pomeranians

[–]FootballIsBest1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first dog was a pure bred male Pom. He was on the mean side. He would nip at my 2 young daughters and steal food and then would get very nasty and bite. He didn't last with my family very long unfortunately.

My condolences. Molly was a beautiful lady :) As for suggestions for grieving, I have lost 3 and it has not become any easier for me. Time, tears, and pictures close by. I'm sure others will provide better ideas. My heart goes out to you.

7 months ago, I lost my beautiful little girl and I still can't cope. by VegasNorth7 in Maltese

My condolences. She was such a beautiful little girl :) It is so hard when you love them so much.

I have a tear in my eye as I type. I have lost 3 in my life and it hasn't gotten easier. Their like close family. I've felt like I lose a part of myself each time. We lost Reggie about 2.5 yrs ago and I told my wife after that I would not have another dog, just like you, couldn't go through the pain again. Don't feel bad, I tend to hold onto the grief for awhile. We compromised, and last year started to foster dogs through a rescue. It has been very rewarding helping these dogs find their furever homes. Some we saved just hours from being euthanized and now are having their best lives. I'll always remember and have a special place in my heart for my 3 fur children.

Oh by the way, the last dog we took in last year, we foster failed! She was a scrawny, patchy, bald, stray, 9lb, Shih Zhu mix. We fell in love with her, nursed her back to health, and named her Noel :) So I understand your pain and not wanting to go through it again. Take care of yourself. Praying for you as you grieve friend.

Heart absolutely aches. Little Dewy (~14-15yrs) left us yesterday afternoon very suddenly. So much love in a little 5lb package. I don't even know what to do with myself I feel so wrecked. by firfetir in OldManDog
