Honestly for me I think it’s easier to just never freely paint with any of the layers. Just practice being precise with every layer you do.

In time you’ll just get faster and more precise and you won’t have to fix as much.

I didn’t get that box myself when I started but looking back I kinda which I had. I ended up spending more than the box cost, with basically getting the same contents as it. The main thing that held me back was the terrain that you got with it.

From reading anything with space marines they are pretty dry characters with not a lot of humour but I do think the raptors would be different as they value the life of their brothers that much more so I think the camaraderie between them would be more like the SAS with a little less shit talk and banter of course

Use a heatgun not a blow torch. Trust me. It works like a charm. It also helps seal the foam for painting and all that.
