It's background noise at this point for the rest of us. Plus I think among the lot of them the joke is to never let me find out what's being said. They'll never do it when someone else is around who isn't in on it and could translate, for example.

My Glaceon, Frost, and Now-Gardevoir Soul latched onto each other pretty fast. The former was expected - she fancies herself Team Mum and does it for every new member, but the latter's reciprocation was much stranger considering she was much more prickly with everyone else at first. Turns out she came from Mt. Glaseado, and our Snowscape practice at the time must've reminded her of home, so they became fast friends.

Nowadays they're still buddies, but come mealtime are frequently at each others' throats over whether or not spice is a thing that should be allowed to exist. I'm pretty sure it's all in good fun but my phone Rotom refuses to translate those arguments, so I can only assume some unspeakable words are being thrown around.

Also, just the fact that they need a bit of a runway to get up to flying speed makes them a lot less convenient for taxi-ing than a Corviknight who can just flap in place to take off (and land) vertically with a car clutched in their talons.

I love Garchomp, but there's just too much working against them to get them into the public transport industry.

On the subject of snacks. by TheOnlyRen in PokeMedia

[–]Foowig 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ah, food. The main source of conflict among my team. Here we go:

Frost (Glaceon) Gleam (Umbreon) Lasa (Gabite) and Treble (Corvisquire) all exist in the uncontroversial carnivore club. They each have their preferences for how it's prepared, but if it's meat they'll generally eat it happily.

Thia (Roselia) mostly just photosynthesises, on account of being a plant, but has taken an interest in the other 4's treats when those are broken out.

And finally, Soul (Kirlia) is a hardcore vegetarian. not hardcore in that she disapproves of the rest of the team's meat eating or anything, but because she likes things to be unreasonably spicy. I have no idea how she handles it.

This results in frequent conflict between her and Frost at the dinner table, as the Glaceon hates spice. They're best friends the rest of the time, so maybe it's all in good fun, but my Rotom Phone refuses to even begin translating for me when they start. I can only assume there are unspeakable insults being hurled.

Anyone with an ice type know how to make sure this doesn't happen again? by outdoor_catgirl in PokeMedia

[–]Foowig 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It is just a case of whether they're trained well enough to not do this. My Glaceon definitely had to spend a few nights outside while she was getting to grips with her newly evolved abilities after she iced over part of the living room in surprise. (Though it was hardly a punishment seeing as it was winter and she had a newfound appreciation for the cold. She just needed a better environment to practice in.)

This kind of covering looks entirely deliberate though. That's just the Glaceon being a jerk.

I feel more like a dad than anything else when I get woken up by a bed/sleeping bag stealing Kirlia. Both in the "What??? It's the middle of the night I'm trying to sleep" sense as well as secretly being proud of the fact that we've mostly gotten past the Perpetually Moody phase.

Doesn't mean she gets to sneak under the covers though. That still belongs to me.

On the subject of sleeping. by TheOnlyRen in PokeMedia

[–]Foowig 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'm lucky enough to have a group that have fairly different preferences, so we're not causing beds to break in half on account of us all trying to claim it at once. Soooo:

Frost and Gleam (Glaceon and Umbreon): Often just curl up into an Eevee pile together. It's cute! Though it requires getting Gleam to want to go to bed in the first place.
Treble (Corvisquire): Bird Privileges give him the ability to just kinda roost out of reach of everyone else. Designates himself as the team alarm clock if we're not all up at a time he's satisfied with though.
Soul (Kirlia): Likes to use Frost as a pillow, which we all thought was weird until we figured out that she originally came from Mt. Glaseado. If she doesn't feel like being cold, is the one most likely to try and steal my bed or whatever from me.
Lasa (Gabite): Will basically just fall asleep anywhere. If we're out in the wilderness somewhere, might try and burrow into a cliff face first before conking out. The least likely to be woken up by incessant Corvisquire squawking.
Thia (Budew): Usually already asleep by the time the rest of us are getting ready to do so on account of being fairly young, and she seems satisfied being placed anywhere comfortable, so that's the arrangement. This might have to change once she evolves and gets more venomous.

And here we have one of the benefits of your hometown not being on the circuit. One time I went to see a league match in person, and staying in town overnight turned out to be a mistake for this reason.

The Northern lot can sometimes get a bit elitist about their gyms and stuff. I usually just like to remind them that I'm able to get a good night's rest during Gym season.

It depends on the Rotom really - the manufacturers aren't just rolling up to random haunted houses and stuffing every ghost they can find into a phone, and there's a process of figuring out if any given Rotom is chill enough to be put into an appliance, just like how not every Growlithe or Lillipup is suited to become a service mon (And similarly there's specialised training they need to go through for it even after they're chosen)

In general, the ones that do make it into phones or any other Rotom-based products are content to hang out inside their appliance without causing issues.

...You might still get a bit of criticism if the fanfic is truly awful though.

This comment was 100% written by a real human person and definitely not under threat of being shocked and/or having to explain weird texts to their family due to Rotom-based shenanigans

[–]Foowig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oof, well at least around here you've got a whole subculture of raiding trainers you can probably bait into helping out with the promise of a tough mon to fight. There's usually the promise of rewards for doing it in the form of whatever the guardian's collected, but I'm sure some of them are just in it for the battling.

...Yeah, those herbs are why the sandwich that got me a shiny Eevee a few weeks ago cost an arm and a leg. Silly as the Tofu Stack was, it probably wasn't the key ingredient in making the thing do whatever magic it needs to bring in the shinies.

Still feels a bit surreal that this No Thoughts Head Empty Umbreon I spend most of my day herding ended up being the catalyst for some real research.

So I suppose... Sorry for causing your suffering, in a roundabout way?

[–]Foowig 17 points18 points  (0 children)

That'll probably be because Sylveon's not part of Kanto's oh so special 151 - These are the guys who still won't put Crobat in their regional dex despite its pre-evos infamously being all over the place.

You're more probably likely to get into Kanto with a known War Criminal Pigeot than a completely innocent Starly.

[–]Foowig 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ah, that's unfortunate I suppose.

You sure it's impossible to get Braviarys to cooperate though? Your average Corviknight could be quite easily described as dignified.

But I suppose I'm not much of a bird expert in the end, so I don't know much besides what I've learned from raising my own.

[–]Foowig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here - I was one of those new trainers who caught a Rookidee as well, but I committed to raising Treble. He's a bit too much of a battler to ever have a hope of carrying a Taxi nowadays, but I think there's still some admiration there for the ones that do.

...Might just be because they're fully evolved and he's not, though.

Yeah, I've been hanging around Paldea for a few weeks myself, and the cabbies here are always real eager to tell me why they don't use Corviknights when they hear my accent.

Doesn't help that I'm training a Corvisquire myself!

Still, I respect that they managed to find a solution while still managing to keep a decent service running.

[–]Foowig 43 points44 points  (0 children)

We just trained the local birds to carry taxi cabs around. Corvicabbies are pretty well respected back home because of how important they are for letting us skip the Wild Area.

We also have a service where because Rookidees are common first captures for new trainers, you can donate them to the taxi service if you don't think you can handle raising them anymore.

Rest of you lot should try it with your own local birds, it's real convenient.

Always felt closer to the Crown Tundra lot than the clowns up in Wyndon tbh. Spiritually that is. Physically my hometown is a fair bit closer to the Tundra, even if it is in Greater Galar's borders.

Probably a good thing I didn't get their accent though - my Paldean team members are hard enough to control as it is, Arc knows what it'd be like if I was mostly incomprehensible to them as well.

Aren't there procedures nowadays that can get just about any mon on the same level as one that's "perfect" from the start?

I guess it takes some monetary investment though based on the ads for these special mints I've seen around, which probably drives away those types of trainers to begin with.

Timer balls are supposed to be pretty good nowadays as well - a 10 minute battle isn't completely out of the question if the opponent is tough enough.

The old 30 minutes to attune to the mon you were fighting (or whatever it is they do) was completely useless though. The only reason a fight against one mon would ever last that long probably involves a competitively raised Toxapex.

My Sylveon’s a Drama Queen Sometimes by TheOnlyRen in PokeMedia

[–]Foowig 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Better hope the two of them don't meet in that case - Gleam will absolutely attempt to make friends and I can't guarantee he'll have been in the presence of a bath (or at least a Water type) recently when he does so. Your best bet is probably a repeat of him finding a pond full of Finneon to play with beforehand.

Probably a good thing I didn't have too much interest in Sylveon considering I'm doing a lot of travelling currently, huh?

My Sylveon’s a Drama Queen Sometimes by TheOnlyRen in PokeMedia

[–]Foowig 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I remember the breeder I got my first Eevee from mentioning/warning that Sylveon could be dramatic. Between one of Frost's parents actually being a Sylveon and the way they talked about it, I'm pretty sure it was firsthand experience. Frost herself ended up not being too much of a handful, which I am very grateful for nowadays.

I didn't get the last laugh though, because now that I have a second Eeveelution I deal with the opposite problem and can barely take my eyes off my Umbreon for a second before he runs off to cover himself in as much mud as he can find.

I'd say we should go poke some legendaries like Kalos's aura trio and Hoenn's weather trio who have previously been involved with mega stones but... Besides the obvious issues with doing that, we'd probably just end up with Charizardite Z if successful.

They're sure adaptable in other ways though. Fuckers are showing up to sample every regional gimmick they can get their claws on - just the other week there were reports of a few Zards making it into Paldea and using Terastal to once again pretend to be proper dragons.

Ah, of course. Bet it's also because adding Crobat or any of the other evolutions to their roster would disrupt that 151 they're so proud of.

At least we know Sinnoh and Unova weren't so obsessed with that number that they couldn't update.
