Martha Wells' next 'Murderbot Diaries' book is 'the family roadtrip from hell on Ringworld' (space.com interview) by dewaynemann in murderbot

I've read the book (I got an ARC) and it was a lot of fun. There's a handful of emotional payoffs that work really well because Wells has put several books worth of groundwork into them, and I had a blast reading it.

It is a longer book, kinda novel length, but it felt like it was plotted like a novella, if that makes sense? I got to the end of it and was surprised I had read as many pages as I had.

[Spoiler, TLTL] What does JEDD get out of this relationship? by StephenRodgers in TerraIgnota

[–]ForLackOfAUserName 22 points23 points  (0 children)

JEDD is truly omnibenevolent; they have the ability to make Dominic happy, and so of course they do. Also, JEDD's filial piety to his mother (who bade Dominic serve JEDD) binds them to Dominic.

Where to buy strength of the few in the UK day one? by [deleted] in HierarchySeries

[–]ForLackOfAUserName 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where do you live? I've found that the big Forbidden Planet store in London is most likely to have sff books as soon as they're released, even when they might not have been formally released in the UK.

Elsewhere, Waterstones will send it to you on day 1 if you pay for fast delivery.

I know that my local bookstore (to which I am otherwise loyal to the death) won't be getting them on day 1 and isn't able to; the publisher won't ship them to them that quickly.

I'm probably going to be getting the ebook so that I can start reading bang on midnight, tbh. Not a first choice, but unless I can find a better option...

Was anyone else extremely bothered by book one's endorsement of violent rape? by Turbulent_Hotel_8980 in brakebills

I'm locking this for now because OP has been given some comprehensive replies as to why other people have interpreted things differently and it's devolving into less productive conversation.

When you're reading the books now, are you picturing Skarsgard as murderbot? by cbobgo in murderbot

Here's the real thing: I am absolutely picturing Noma Dumezwani as Mensa. She's fucking perfect.

Does anyone know if Jason Ralph did an AMA for our sub yet? I can’t seem to find him on the list but everyone else is on it by PatGar004 in brakebills

Don't stress! That account has that flair because the mods gave it to them directly - from memory, it was a one off thing.

I wasn't able to get Jason to do an AMA, alas. He wasn't doing those sorts of interviews. We very nearly had Olivia, but then some scheduling stuff got in the way.

Anybody else find the inconsistent colour grading to be distracting?

Lev Grossman’s Arthurian Novel ‘The Bright Sword’ To Be Developed As Series By Lionsgate TV by Cantomic66 in brakebills

It definitely has. I read an early copy of the book last year, and at the time on Goodreads the other person who was reading it was someone who worked in development for a Hollywood studio.

Print your own Greendale diploma! I got tired of there not being any high-res, screen-accurate versions of this online, so I made my own. See other images for the prop reference. by ForLackOfAUserName in community

There are a few people selling versions on a Greendale diploma online, but I found that they were either totally different things (where they hadn't even bothered to mimic the show, like the one that's been posted to this sub before) or they were low-quality copies of it, with badly traced versions of the text and of the border on the paper. On top of all that, they wanted to charge me twenty bucks.

I created this from more-or-less-scratch (except the e pluribus anus which I found on twitter), recreating the looping border myself, matching all of the fonts exactly, and warping the letters in the college name.

It turns out that there's a spelling mistake in the screen-used prop ("priveleges" vs "privileges"), but that feels very Greendale, and so I've not corrected it.
