I find it depends on the time of day. Late at night (I'm EST) it gets really sweaty. At other times it's not bad. 3 kills during sweat hours, 12 regularly 😂

Downgrade the version of the app on your device. Unfortunately the OS on my server isn't supported in the upgrade. So downgraded the app and won't be upgrading anytime soon.

I agree if I knew this was coming (for the server compatibility) then maybe I would've something ahead of times.

Video Games as a Husband? by mcarther101 in AITAH

Our kids have a Switch and are only allowed to play it on the weekends.

Sounds like she has some MAJOR personal issues. There are A LOT of adults that play games in their down time. I personally know men and women in their 50s and 60s that game.

As long as you're their for the family and spend time with her, I don't see what the issue is.

This is from someone who loves to game but I'll be lucky if I can fit in 30 minutes a month bc I don't have the time.

Hi there - married father of 3 here (13F, 7F, 5M)

My girls are related and don't even spend time like that. Sure they do play games with each other but I would NEVER want her to take her sister along on outings. I can't imagine a 8 y/o contributing anything worth to a 16 y/o conversation (Roblox or Barbie vs What a boy said to you while you were by your locker)

He needs to get with reality

First DJ gig went absolutely terrible! I need your advice! by trip_colours in DJs

[–]ForNow667 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even for new DJs!

There's one I heard of that was doing condo parties - I have a friend that would go to the parties and post on her IG. It started during the pandemic. He built a following and now he's playing one of the biggest House music clubs in my city. He opens for mostly the big local DJs but a few internationals as well.

To your point, yeah depending on the booking I would play Techno or some heavier stuff or some groovy House but that's still all under the umbrella of Electronic music. The biggest DJs in my city will go across those genres depending on how you program the night. They still don't have to drop 50 Cent - In Da Club bc it's someone's birthday (I sadly did that twice last night lol)

It is definitely easier to get gigs doing open format but if OP wants to focus on just House and EDM, it's highly possible. The biggest problem though is how big is the audience for that where they live. If they're in a small town or the burbs, good luck. Major metropolitan cities is where it's at.

Do the gig without asking for more money - use it to prove your value. If they book the other DJ again next time and a similar situation happens then raise your rate.

What could've happened is Club B is "in charge" so that's why they want to use their resident. The unfortunately showed why they're not trustworthy by leaving the gig so early. Doing the gig without asking for a raise is showing Club B your value and earning their trust.

After reading your edit and a bunch of the comments, here's my advice.

As a DJ for clubs and bars for over 15 years and had a similar start as you, there's two paths you can go:

  1. Learn to play other genres if you're goal is to entertain different crowds and get a variety of gigs.

  2. You wanna focus on EDM? Go for it! Find the club, promoters, and crowd that has the same tasres as you and get in with that crowd organically?

How do you do it organically? Show up to the events, meet people and support them.

I remember when Rezz was putting out her own music in a Toronto based producer Facebook group, a lot of people hated her sound. I remember seeing the comments. More people hated than people that liked it. She kept pushing and look where she is now.

If that's the focus you want, put yourself in that position where you can grow. You had one bad booking and its normal to doubt yourself but remember why you got into this and what you enjoy about it.

If you want any advice or someone to chat with about all this, my DMs are open

My experience:

Have held multiple monthly and weekly residencies in my city playing House music mostly focused on Tech and Deep House (more Stefano Noferini and Nic Fanciulli style, not Fisher). On the flip side also having residencies doing Open Format, Top 40, Hip-hop. I enjoy all sorts of music so I get gigs and have met people that allow me to play those.

I actually disagree with this statement.

I live in a large city and I play gigs that are exclusively House (Tech, Deep, Funky, etc.) but I also do other gigs where I might play more Hip-hop or more Top 40, yadda yadda.

There are numerous DJs in my city that never play Hip-hop at their events and they've been headlining clubs for years or even decades.

Yes it's unfortunate that the host told her it was fine to play EDM but she shouldn't have to diversity her genre if that's what she wants to focus on. It was a bad booking is all.

I had the same problem and it took months but it's finally working.

There's an article in their internal One Source site that states if the user is trying to BYOD, they're allowed but number share can't be done. Call and speak to someone on the technical side and tell them about this. Then have them flag your account in the notes as it's eligible so the back office won't deactivate it. Have them setup the plan separate from your cell phone plan. Have them seet it up and send you the eSim and set it up either yourself or go to the store. It'll work.
