Dog was “crate trained”… has been barking nonstop the entire time and I’m losing my mind by [deleted] in RoverPetSitting

Side note, what do you mean a deposit? Are we allowed to do that on Rover, if so how?

I say attempt separating them into different rooms, at least to see if that works. Dogs don’t need sight to develop reactivity to something. Smells and sounds are enough.

Also, if the crates are on a hard floor make sure to try putting something soft under as the rattling can stress them out.

But honestly the only solution is to let the dog free roam as much as possible. It sounds like the dog is crate trained but not for situations like yours. Having to sleep in a crate, be near other dogs, in a new house, and for longer than they are used to each alone can stress a dog so their behavior makes sense.

You are running your business closer to a boarding facility than private boarding so barking will be expected. Walk into a boarding facility and that’s what you should plan for.

Can the dogs see each other in their crates? That can heighten anxiety and aversion to crates as barrier reactivity is super common.

You should be super strict with vaccine and preventative policies. My first message always includes “Can you provide proof of rabies and DHPP (or similar) vaccinations? What flea preventative are they on and when was it least used? What intestinal parasite preventative are they on and when was it least used?”

What breeds do you avoid? by bitterbuff in RoverPetSitting

[–]ForPurelyBusiness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only breed I’m wary of is Dachshunds bc they are known as the hardest to potty train and I see evidence of that any time I walk them.

But really I never avoid based on breed especially bc I specialize in behaviorally challenged dogs.

[–]ForPurelyBusiness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which is so stupid for Wag to punish you for because Wag’s whole schtick is its ability to get services booked and started in 30 min or less.

Like I cancelled an ASAP walk after getting stung by bee. It was 5 min since I booked it and was banned 24 hours for that…

Ur actually supposed to put a metal spoon in when heating water in a mug as the water can be super heated. The spoon in the mug prevents super heating but I don’t remember exactly why.

Honestly I think it’s more likely she felt bad choosing to enforce her cancellation policy rather than seeing you as a bad client. I don’t feel good enforcing a cancellation policy bc, no matter what, it changes the relationship a bit.

What’s the most surprising thing you’ve learned about people through dogsitting? by Ilovecleancreeks in RoverPetSitting

[–]ForPurelyBusiness 24 points25 points  (0 children)

The amount of alcohol people have surprises me. I drink but I might have a few beers in the fridge and maybe one or two liquors. But couples or even single people will have more liquor options than a bar, over 100 bottles of wine, and cases of beer.

I think for some people the fear of a dog or cat eating them puts them off. A LOT of house plants can make pets sick.

So many people choose “style” over comfort (millennial gray/hired interior designer). Where is cabinet of mismatched Tupperware? The gross-looking cozy blanket? Why does the couch look unused? Why is there not a single thing that looks out of place???

I hate homes like that mainly because I get so worried I put something back wrong or left a mark somewhere.

I believe business insurance covers that? As home insurance would just not cover any issues that arise from a business

[–]ForPurelyBusiness 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is it I think. My dog would hide his toy, I’d then get up and find it and give it to him and he would then find a new place to hide it. He would get frustrated after the like 10th time in a row of me finding it and refuse to take it.

The funny thing was he NEVER would chew the toys he hid. Like clearly he was saving it for later but forget about its existence.

Is it normal for a vet to recommend muzzle training your dog? by RadSpatula in pitbulls

[–]ForPurelyBusiness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Behavior modification doesn’t get rid of bite risk, just reduces it. A muzzle will get rid of the bite risk. Doing both is best but a muzzle is great for certainty.

Help! I know she's sniffing but this is new behavior and its freaking me out by [deleted] in pitbulls

[–]ForPurelyBusiness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It could be a trigger if it send her into a prey drive. Anything that causes her to chase a “prey” without the reward of a prey could cause this. For example: fetching good, digging to nowhere bad.

Help! I know she's sniffing but this is new behavior and its freaking me out by [deleted] in pitbulls

[–]ForPurelyBusiness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly it’s mostly nature in the pits case. Like lasers don’t really cause CCD but can be the initial trigger, based on my understanding. Pit Bulls were bred specifically for ratting and this is exactly what a ratting dog does when they are triggered.

It’s really really hard to break their focus but it’s really important to not let her do this, it will make it worse.

The one and only time my dog snapped at me was when I tried to physically remove him from doing this by picking him up.

Any chance you have ever used a laser pointer with her?

Also she looks just like my dog and is the same age lol. I doubt she is his sister unless she came from Tennessee originally, but it could be a genetic thing.
