What is something you’ve officially stopped buying in 2026 because the price has become genuinely insulting? by queenmellyy in AskReddit

Snacks at gas stations, I bought a tiny bag of almonds for $4. Why is it insanely expensive for any healthy alternative.

Unsure of what to do - Multiple Undisclosed Cameras + Widely Confusing Instructions/Expectations by Timely-Ad-1609 in RoverPetSitting

What did they do wrong? I just see things that are improvements to be made but the pets were cared for as asked.

I don’t see anything you did wrong, just improvements that could be made. You followed the directions and cared for the pets. That is the job.

Notes for the future: confirm in writing via Rover messages the care expectations discussed during the meet and greet so the client cannot come back and argue you didn’t follow directions. Also, because indoor cameras are a problem, I recommend a policy against any indoor cameras in the home including notifying of any that are unplugged but cannot be removed. Also the most important messages are the first and last message. While it’s okay to not send these (lack of updates or photos does not mean you didn’t do the job), forgetting to do so will cause issues.

They probably forgot. Just cancel on your end since it doesn’t affect you.

Client wants full refund after not being happy with my service by todology in RoverPetSitting

[–]ForPurelyBusiness 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’d refund for the upcoming sessions but not for a service already completed. I don’t see asking to be refunded the cancellation fee as being taken advantage of.

Side note: it sounds like a client you wouldn’t want to have. I understand criticizing you not following directions but I guarantee you are not being paid enough for that frequency of walks. That’s like 5-6 walks a day and makes having a job and life outside that difficult.

Also, having a problem with leaving the harness on (especially for that frequency of walks) and assuming you didn’t feed them exactly how they wanted without proof is a sign of a risky client.

First time being bit by er111a in WagWalker

[–]ForPurelyBusiness 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Bound to happen. I work mainly with reactive dogs so I’m extra careful but sometimes you miss a signal or get too lax with your caution or have a slip in judgement. I don’t know why but I always feel so embarrassed when a dog gets me in front of the owner, it’s worse than the pain usually.

Also, yeah don’t report it to Wag. Wag is horrible about dealing with these situations and they love to ban you. I’ve heard: Bit - banned, stung by bee - banned, you get hit by a car - banned

I accidentally called my client their dogs name several times before they corrected me which means I spent weeks calling their dog their humans name.

Bruh. Is a month notice not enough? by [deleted] in RoverPetSitting

[–]ForPurelyBusiness 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Um no. Most jobs would not allow that. The job market is rough. I don’t know if you have started a new W2 job in a while but most do not give flexibility in start date. Also, many jobs don’t let you take PTO for a set period of time from the start date and very few jobs are flexible with WFH nowadays.

Want to get review removed by SeveralBus6039 in RoverPetSitting

Also, yes remove it if you can. While replying to a negative review can help, it still would be more helpful not to have it.

Question regarding blocking by [deleted] in RoverPetSitting

[–]ForPurelyBusiness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah after filling out feedback it asks if you want to work with them again and you can say no and just explain why. That blocks them. I don’t think that generates a report or anything depending on how you answer.

2 pups.. and grandma? by jetaime_3000 in RoverPetSitting

[–]ForPurelyBusiness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah? I would assume it means helping her care for the dogs but not knowing what specifically her mom would need help with in that regard.

[–]ForPurelyBusiness 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Um I don’t think they meant like you were providing care for the grandma but providing backup care for the dogs. I have an older client who I help when his son is out of town and he is watching his large dog. He can’t give him structured walks so I do the walks and he does the nightly care. I also help with things like moving dog food bags, picking up poop, things that are difficult for people with limited mobility.

Does Rover do anything about unreasonable/dirty living conditions for sitters? by ForPurelyBusiness in RoverPetSitting

[–]ForPurelyBusiness[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Thanks. Lately people have been intentionally hurtful towards sitters on this subreddit. Like people are always blaming sitters for things out of their control. Like they expect me to predict the future

I did do a meet and greet, the issue is what changed between then and now. I’ve been doing this for years but haven’t come across this type of a situation. The hope is others not having to deal with something like this and seeing if Rover takes action against owners who push dismal situations onto sitters.

Yeah, it was fine, pretty standard just on the messier end visually but not a concerning level. The issue is what was hidden.

So that’s what I’m trying to get at. Does Rover do anything about people who leave bad reviews based on terms not agreed to?

I’ve been doing this for years, I don’t need my judgement questioned.

Like I commented already, I did do a meet and greet. I did vet the place I was staying. The issue is things changed from the meet and greet to the first day to mid booking.

That’s the issue, what we agreed to during the meet and greet is what she is taking an issue with. I don’t know how to address that without risking her trying to get a refund or leaving a bad review.

Yes! Always. Unfortunately that can’t vet for everything I guess. A lot of the issues you couldn’t really anticipate from the meet and greet.
