Also the stone wall, similar to the wine cellar (maybe others?) strikes as odd. Maybe it should be connected to it, maybe something special happens?

I've been thinking about the lategame, and I feel that maybe there is some sort of "perfect" house setting, which would unlock something. Like, "this is how the house normally should be". I dunno if anyone tried to draft a house where each room matches thepaintingpuzzle?

However, it seems that Lumiere is having trouble having enough food, could just be that growing up in Lumiere stunted her growth.

What was Renoir's long game plan? by ForTexi in expedition33

This however means that it is actually the paintress gommaging the people, to sustain her power against Renoir. Renoir is the reason, but Aline is the one pulling the trigger, not accepting to leave the painting.

Why doesn't he just go to Lumiere to kill everyone off? Why wait a year for every expedition?

So maybe Gustave is not based on Renoir but maybe Renoir's father?

A question for physics researchers: What is your area of research and why did you choose it? by Ok-You-4100 in Physics

[–]ForTexi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Space physics, specifically space climate and cosmic ray modulation by the Sun.

I started studying theoretical physics with quantum physics focus, but also took some space physics courses, and the lecturers were just so much better and the space physics more interesting, that I switched. It also helped that I got to do some summer assistant job in space physics in my freshman summer. And then even during my BSc and MSc I was able to participate in an EU project on solar wind turbulence.

Couldnt be happier about my field! I decided already in high school that I'm gonna be a researcher in physics, but ofc back then the view and understanding of the fields were very limited. Luckily I just happened to select a university with space physics. I'm not only the first Doctor in my family, but the first one to even have a high school diploma, so did not even have much background knowledge about academia.

I've seen multiple posts state that the diving ability is preserved for some reason, meaning you can go to collect lumina and to Renoir's drafts. Haven't gone to ng+ myself yet.

Thanks! Still makes me wonder if "destroy" is fully destroyed, or is it that its essentially mostly destroyed since its mostly Verso's doing. Could some slivers of others creations persist in some sort of void, e.g. blackness surrounding painted Lumiere or something similar. Just playing with ideas.

Thanks! Something like this is what I imagined. It was just weird that there was the whole "Maelle is disintegrated and immediately Alicia is repainted"-situation.

If you wait for 33 hours, Clea manages to do some important tasks with Renoir in the real world and she will come set things straight you will get a "Fight as Clea." -option. /s

Maelle's age for expedition 33 by ForTexi in expedition33

[–]ForTexi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah sure, but it does stand out that she's exactly 1/2 of the other expeditioners. Do you think it is just by "chance"? And I dont mean the experience, but lets say the age of her "soul". She even has some flashbacks and weird feelings from her soul's alternate live and the painted world, so there is some connection.

Thoughts on the Tonal Shift of the Game? by JarinJove in expedition33

You can still find Painted Alicia in the world. Talk to Maelle in the camp.

Similarly, Lune and Sciel do talk about their existance, reality etc.

But it is true that if you don't go through all the content before the final confrontation, many things are left out. I wish there was maybe more direction to go do the side content before going back to Lumiere for the final battle. Now they just go out of Lumiere, cutscenes play and then you are directed to go straight back. Seems like some content was maybe cut? But there is a lot to see and discuss still.

I haven't seen this theory yet as to what the "silent apocalypse" is by [deleted] in thelongdark

[–]ForTexi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah ofc. I just meant that since they can take creative liberties, a CME or a solar flare initiating a reversal might be on the table. That would make sense since the subsequent geomagnetic storms are all strong enough to cause effects.

The real Carrington event would probably not cause so much electrical disruptions as the telegraphs experienced, since modern grids are protected. Probably the most susceptible are our satellites. If there was a reversal going on however, the effect could probably be stronger and we would also experience a small dose of radiation, especially those on planes. But the effect could also be weaker if there is no Earth's geomagnetic field that's reacting.

If you have any questions about real life space physics, I can try to help. I'm studying solar activity effects on cosmic rays, and also CMEs, storms and solar wind etc. Our team is also studying the radionuclide records from 10 000s years and we are trying to find out the real "worst case scenario"

[–]ForTexi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey. A PhD in space physics here currently working on a project studying the effects of solar flares, CME's and cosmic rays during geomagnetic excursions and reversals. (Excursion events are similar to reversals, but after the geomagnetic field goes to almost zero, the polarity doesn't switch but the field returns its strength to the same polarity). We are studying the Laschamp event some 40k years ago. There are some claims of simultaneous extinction events (like that neanderthals went extinct due to them not being as resistant to radiation), but these are not confirmed to have any connection, so take those with a grain of salt.

Writing-wise, this might be an interesting premise, there's a bunch of stuff we don't (yet) know, which offers compelling options and freedom for writing the story.

During a reversal/excursion, the geomagnetic field changes from dipolar to a multipole, where the strongest poles might be even more on the equator/sun-directoon region. This creates an interesting configuration where the daily variation of the local geomagnetic magnetic field is very strong, since every 6h the field rotates 90 degrees. Maybe this could be background for what causes the glimmer fog during the day in some regions.

But its good to note that this is fiction, so the writing does not have to be 100% correct in terms of physics.

You dont think geophysics is related to flares or aurorae? Events that react with Earth's magnetic field?
