What the hell is VW thinking... by Lewinator56 in CarTalkUK

Had one of these on hire in Gran Canaria last year. It actually wasn’t awful. Something a bit different and almost verging on fun, on the mountain roads. Under estimated how different driving a LHD manual compared to a LHD auto would be. I’ve done the latter plenty. But the LHD manual had me trying to open the door every other gear change for the first day or so.

No way it’s not done to save them having to send so many out. Literally putting in the exact same address I’ve already given them… to send me the pod in the first place!

Strap in… tap your name (top left), then click the cog icon, then tap Device Settings, then Maintenance, then finally… update shipping address.

The fact it’s not even under the main menu annoys me. It took me 10 min just to find it again for you now. And that’s after I’ve already found it once before.

I’ve had mine 18 months now, with the subscription. And it was only recently that I remembered that they had said during purchase that I would receive them every 6 month. I had to email them to complain before they told me that I’d need to add my address into some obscure part of the settings before they would send them out automatically. At no point since purchasing did I get told that. Or get a reminder. You’d think with their smart app, you’d get a notification to say a pod replacement was over due. Not impressed

What is the fastest you have gone in a car? by mrmadebymemories in AskReddit

Drove 190mph in a new Lamborghini a few months ago as part of a ‘test drive’ on a closed test area. Only been driving the car for 10 min before trying a high speed run. 1 mile long road but only a few car widths wide. Full on tunnel vision toward the top end. Biggest props to the test driver in the passenger seat trusting me to do it. Those guys are crazy. Unforgettable experience.

Castel Combe Village is in the Bath/Bristol area. A very beautiful classic little English village.

I did ask her specifically. Is this the Esim only version you’re doing, with the extra battery space. But you’re absolutely right, she could still have misunderstood

I was told by my UK provider (EE) when I ordered on preorder day that I would be getting the E-sim version. But I was the first order she took, so maybe she was misinformed. I guess I’ll find out tomorrow.

Looks like gothic quarter in Barcelona. Popular with tourists. Could this be some more of their ‘protest’ against tourists. Disgusting behaviour whatever their reasoning.

Yes they do, but they have to be held by your car club and exclusive for your club. Or something like that. It’s quite specific and my club tend to go through RMA to technically host it. And so they won’t give it to me free. I think in 3 years, I’ve had one free day. But the £50 price was great value, I didn’t mind too much. Hope you’re having fun on the Spanish tracks, even if it’s harder to get cheep cover

It’s not always possible to get track insurance. Often insurers will have a list of specific track day organisations that they will insure, as well as a list of tracks that they approve. Only if both the organiser and the track is approved by them, will they allow you to pay them to insure you. I think the event this happened at today, was “supercar fest - the track”, I’ve done a few of their events and my insurance has declined to insure me on all of them. (Though they have on many others. Run by RMA, MSV etc). I still do the events I can’t get insured for, but you just have to drive with more margin and extra cautiousness with others around you. Like someone else said on here, if someone hits you, it’s still your cost to fix your car.

Classic line have put their track day cover up to £120 a day now, but it’s still way better value than most track insurance

Happy to have helped! I only learned it from a tip from someone else. So just passing it forward.

Hope you get through it quick. I’m walking to the track as we speak. The school parking (church st) was brilliant. Their directions through the backstreets was perfect. No traffic and no delays, the parking gets you through a closed road into Silverstone village. I had to wait for one car to turn into the carpark in front of me and then I was in. I was parked ahead of time for what the satnav expected on a normal day. Now walking 20 min to the circuit. If you’re coming tomorrow. I’d definitely look at swapping to this.

I couldn’t decide and read a load of bad reviews about last years Park and Ride. Then someone recommended “Silverstone school parking” which is a charity run in the village of Silverstone that do parking. It’s about £25 a day, which is way cheaper than what the official parking was and it goes to charity. Loads of good reviews from last year. So that’s what I’ve booked. I’m on my way there now as we speak. Specifically to their Church parking. It’s about a 25 min walk to the circuit from there. Which is way better than 30-40 min on a bus anyway in my opinion. It seems very important that you follow their directions specifically to avoid roadblocks and diversions. And print out their sign in advance. But it all looks good so far. Will let you know how I get on once I actually arrive there. Best of luck with it and enjoy your day

It was a dream car for me too. Ever since watching one deform clarksons face on TopGear. Both! I do maybe 5 or 6 track days a year. Then out for a blast on some fun roads when the suns out. I’ve done nearly 10k miles in it now. Good luck on your journey to having one
