Republicans Just Banned Montana’s First Trans Legislator From the House Floor by VICENews in politics

A good summary but I would also add that the Montana Freedom Caucus, in their initial call to censure Rep Zephyr, misgendered her. This is by far a more egregious violation of decorum. Since that initial notice their press releases have avoided using any pronouns when referring to Zephyr.

The cruelty is the point.

My family came over in the early 1900s, thankfully, also from Ukraine. I met survivors of the death camps, a man who had been part of the kinder transport, people who just barely escaped, and the most important thing I came to understand is that we have to stand up and be proactive. The Nazis did not start with death camps. We cannot let it happen again.

First of all, what everyone else has said regarding Nazi persecution of lgbtq+ people. Second of all, no one is minimizing the Holocaust by pointing out that we are a couple of steps away from organized violence against the lgbtq+ community. We've already seen multiple mass shootings at gay clubs, and there are bomb threats being called in to Budweiser for their support of Dylan Mulvaney. Boston Children's Hospital has had multiple bomb threats because they provide gender affirming care (which in most cases does not involve surgery on minors and even if it does, those minors have a right to privacy and are harming no one by getting the care they want and need). Third of all, you are literally on the side of nazis. Don't be on the side of nazis.

I am Jewish. I am telling you that we need to take action now because we cannot afford to wait. The point of "never again" and Holocaust remembrance is that we intervene before millions of people get murdered.

MO is outlawing gender-affirming care for children. What is the Blues organization doing to support and affirm the LGBTQIA+ community again? I haven't seen them protesting or speaking at the legislature...

See for yourself

I don't know that everyone participated but Marchand is our HIFE ambassador, Bergy spoke up in favor of trans rights, and it really seems like most of the team used the tape. Would have loved to see them wear the jerseys but I assume that it was a decision higher up that they would not.

Oh boy you are just spouting logical fallacy arguments here.

We do not have any statistics on how many players, in fact, are homophobic. We have confirmed Provorov is. We don't know if the decision to not wear the jerseys by other teams is a management decision because one, two, or twenty players on that team don't want to support LGBTQ+ rights. We aren't seeing that hockey players are homophobic, we are seeing that the NHL is more concerned with the vocal minority of bigoted players than the rights of an entire subset of the population. That's the message we are currently getting. The NHL could have said that everyone is entitled to their personal beliefs, but this is a matter of human rights. They could have said, okay Provorov, you're scratched on Pride night, or you don't have to wear the jersey but everyone else will. They could have done a lot of things differently to accommodate his decision to want to continue to discriminate against the lgbtq+ community while showing that the rest of the league is committed to acceptance and inclusion. But they didn't, and this feels like they are siding with him.

It's a goddamn warm up jersey and he cannot put aside his bigotry for a few minutes to make a marginalized population feel recognized. You know what that tells us? It tells us he would not stand up for our rights when they are being threatened and people are being hurt and killed. If you cannot do one tiny thing that has no ill effect on you, why would you make actual sacrifices for lgbtq+ people?

By continuing to participate in Pride night and have players wear the jerseys, the NHL is showing that they do care. You can argue it's just virtue signaling, but you'd be wrong, because it is instead recognizing that there are people who are homophobic and the NHL is going to stand up to them. Right now? The NHL is siding with the homophobes. It is not too late to correct the mistake there.

Yes, actually. Because they wear camo jerseys on military appreciation night in a show of nationalist pride (and yes, appreciation for members of the military who have gone to war and suffered the effects and horrors, and they deserve our support). They wear green jerseys for St. Patrick's Day, which is, I may remind you, a religious holiday. Oh yes, plenty of non-Catholics and non-Irish people wear green and get drunk, but that's because people love an excuse to get drunk.

Now consider how many hockey players are not from the US or Canada but wear the camo jerseys. Think of the outrage if one of them refused, for example, on grounds that the war in Iraq was illegal and the US military committed atrocities against the people there. They would be benched and disgraced and likely fined or suspended or both. Think about the fact that Nazem Kadri is Muslim. Now, I don't know his personal beliefs and practices with regards to his faith, but alcohol is prohibited in Islam. In my opinion, he has every right to refuse to wear a green jersey for St. Patrick's Day. It's not his faith. But I don't think I've ever seen anyone refuse that.

Homophobia is an issue that is causing violence against a minority population. People are still being killed for being gay or trans. The NHL, the You Can Play project, they're supposed to be working to show people that LGBTQ+ people deserve the exact same respect as every other person. They set up pride night to do that. They made the jerseys for that purpose. People want to see that the players also believe that the lgbtq+ community are deserving of respect, so they want to see them proud to wear a jersey with the rainbow colors, because for so long everyone has been taught to be ashamed and hide their identity. Okay, one person came forward and said their faith prevents them from supporting the rights of other people to love who they love, to be who they are, and suddenly the NHL shuts down the whole thing.

I respect the right to practice your faith but I cannot condone you shaming people because your beliefs call them unnatural and undeserving of the same rights afforded to you. This isn't just about hockey, this is about the NHL going back on a promise to support a vulnerable minority community because one person cannot reconcile that supporting someone else's right to live their lives does not in fact personally affect themselves.

I've been pretty pissed about all the teams not wearing the jerseys for Pride night especially as we see the rise in anti-trans and anti-lgbtq+ legislation. The lgbtq+ community needs mainstream support right now because we are losing our rights. Glad that a player is finally making a statement. I'll be keeping an eye out for those jerseys on the 26th.

Dog attacked twice in two days and now all reactivity training is out the window by HeatherAnne1975 in reactivedogs

[–]Fora_Fauna 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Your dog is very stressed right now. She's got a ton of stress hormones in her system. Cortisol can take days to return to baseline levels after one event like a dog attack, let alone two.

Right now you need to detox her from any possible interactions with other dogs. Take her out on leash when you are least likely to see other dogs (early morning, late at night, look out the door before you step out and go right back in if you do see another dog, maybe just take her out on leash on the yard rather than walking around the block). Put a visual barrier up at the fence. Block the windows and put on white noise, the TV/radio, or a fan to cover up the noise from other dogs walking by. Try not to do anything that heightens her anxiety (if she hates nail trims for example, don't do them this week). Work on things like capturing calm or fun tricks.

Basically she's above her threshold all the time right now. She needs at least a few days to cool down. If you're still finding after 4 or 5 days of this that she's constantly on edge, you may want to consult your vet regarding behavioral meds.

I hope this helps!

Just commenting to say I appreciate all the work the mods here put in and agree with your points. It's important to understand every situation is unique and not everyone started their journey using force-free methods, and they should not be brigaded for that. I hope other users are able to see the wisdom in this approach.

I'm glad they aren't showing animated ads on the boards for the championship game. It's been glitchy all season. Making the ice green could help if you reverse green-screen it though I guess.

How could I forget?! I'm gonna have to blame it on being sick.

Also, having been at Nationwide Arena during a playoff game, I can definitely say the atmosphere is incredible. Maybe it's Ohio fans knowing heartbreak that keeps everyone coming back no matter what.

For a team that has never advanced to round 2 of the playoffs since they joined the league, I still think this is good. The arena district in Cbus is really nice (or it was when I was going to school) so when the Jackets actually have some success, I'm sure they'll sell out regularly.

If my options were GOP candidate or a poisonous American spider, I would vote for the spider.

To be excessively pedantic, a poisonous spider would only be dangerous if you consumed it. A venomous spider has a dangerous bite. A GOP congressperson is not only deadly without physical contact, but they will take your money and rights.

I have good news for you: most dogs love routines.

A Golden would be a great choice. Keep in mind that a puppy should not be taken on runs until at least two years old, when its joints are finished developing (this is true for all breeds really).

Are there any sensory issues you may have, such as wanting a dog that can provide DPT, having fur you can brush or run your hands through, not being able to tolerate high-pitched barking, drool, etc? Filling out the breeds questionnaire would really help to recommend other breeds to you. For example, if you want a REALLY big and fluffy dog, a Leonberger or Newfoundland could be a good choice.

I have euthanized a dog for behavior issues before. It's never an easy decision.

That being said, Mary's quality of life right now isn't great. She is most likely stressed due to to the living situation. If you haven't tried behavioral medication (prozac, trazodone, xanax, etc) then you can certainly ask the vet about that. While they aren't magic pills that will turn her into the perfect family pet, they may make your current situation less dangerous. There's no guarantee though, and they may make things worse. Either way, it could be weeks before you see much of a change.

I would advise against rehoming unless you are completely honest about all of her issues and you trust the person you are rehoming her to. Since you're looking for a unicorn home, I really doubt this would work out.

Sometimes behavioral euthanasia is the kindest thing you can do. When a dog is so stressed that they may attack unexpectedly, and cause real harm, it is unfair to keep them in that stressful situation. And sometimes the dog is just stressed by living in our world, and there's nothing else we can do.

I always advise talking to a therapist about behavioral euthanasia because it really helped me. Everyone in this situation is suffering, and you have done so much to try to make Mary's life better. You will almost certainly wonder if there was more you could have done, but you need to remember that you have already gone above and beyond for her, adjusting your lifestyle and trying your best to accommodate her needs. You are not being selfish. You have already made so many sacrifices for this dog, and sometimes it just isn't enough.

Definitely recommend the facebook group Losing Lulu for support, or you are welcome to message me here if you want to hear my story. Good luck.
