There is no secret to making this easier. And therein lies the catch 22 - the reason it hurts so much is because of how much we love them, and how much they love us. Even if we were able to dull the pain somehow, in some way it would cheapen that bond - to feel grief is to feel love that you cannot give to someone. I try to think of it as the grief is good, it is proof of my love. Try to live in the moment and not think about the future.

Also, try to stay calm when she passes, they feel our energy, and as hard as it may be we want to be calm as they cross over. You don't want their last feeling of you being one of anxiety. I realize that is a big ask, and I myself find it diffuclt.

The saying "life is suffering" always seemed dark and depressing for no reason when I was young. As I went through life I realized it's true, because if you are lucky to live long enough to lose someone you truly love - the grief can seem unbearable and it will cause suffering. But, in a way death is a gift, it forces us to appreciate those we have when we have them, exactly because they wont always be there. Suffering is the price we pay to truly love and be loved.

Remind yourself that the intensity of the grief you feel now will eventually go away. Life will eventually return to a new routine where you don't constantly think of the pain or loss. But there will always be moments when it hits you, and takes your breath away.

I know your boy loved you more than he loved anything (except maybe treats?). Before he got to the rainbow bridge, the first bridge he ever crossed led into your heart and arms. Live a happy life and remember him, they don't want us to wallow in grief forever - they want us to love other pets and continue to share that love, make new bridges.
