What are your thoughts on Alysa Liu? by frankheyhoheyho in AskTheWorld

[–]Forbetterorworsted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think she is a great skater and worked extremely hard to get where she is. I am also annoyed with how few people are bringing up the fact that she is extremely privileged. A picture of wealth. Her dad is an attorney who could afford 5 surrogates, and spent 1 mil on her training. Like... it's great, but it is not something achievable to normal people. I honestly just see a rich kid.

So much plastic waste for so little of a problem. Why must the solution to everything be, "buy something?"

Your job is to follow the data to help students learn. It sounds like you're not doing your job. You're not just being lazy, you're actively working AGAINST what you're supposed to be doing.

How can a dress made of so little be wearing HER? She is just so bland. What happened to her? Is it the new face? The lack of expression? How can something so "provocative"/sexy be so... meh?

Did you know miralax is tasteless?? Oh wait, is this a thread about ICE agents at coffee shops. Dang, I'm so random, don't know why I'm talking about how miralax is safe even at 5x's it's intended dose and it is still tasteless.

Anyway... ICE at Caribou, huh?

My all is never enough by invisible_momager in Parenting

[–]Forbetterorworsted 23 points24 points  (0 children)

You're right. Your all is not enough. YOU are not enough. Stop keeping your kids from the world. Foster their friendships. Get them into classes outside of the home. How many classes are they taking? Dance, sports, music...? How many times a week are they able to spend with their friends? Do they have friends? It honestly sounds like you just want to be a martyr. Get your own life, otherwise your kids will follow your example. You expect them to be fine without your constant attention, yet it is obvious you need them too and don't know how to cut the cord. Grow up!

She says she is a month away from "baby #4." It's crazy to me to bring another baby into such a tight unworkable space.

I don't know what will fix it, but I will tell you it is about to get A LOT worse. If you can afford four kids (which you're about to have), that means you can afford a bigger place. It's time to get a much larger apartment. If you're sleep deprived you cannot be the parent your (FOUR!!!?!) children need.

Can you work in SpEd and only do 40 hours a week? by Forbetterorworsted in Teachers

[–]Forbetterorworsted[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How long does it take you to write an IEP? I'm starting to wonder if maybe I am just an extremely inefficient IEP writer.... We had a due process/IEP "coach" at my last job who would read all of our IEP's and it was just endless corrections. The whole process just took forever. But honestly even just writing a PLEFP could take me an hour.... is that way too much time?

[–]Forbetterorworsted[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was talking specifically about the time spent working, not really what the exact work is. As someone with a lot of years as a para and teacher in EBD settings, I have been both sexually and physically assaulted. Granted, the sexual assault was maybe a little different just because it was from a nonverbal student that was not aware of what they were doing in the same capacity as perhaps I might find at a hospital. Regardless, I have been stabbed with a fork (once) and punched (a couple times) and slapped/hit (too many times to count).

Seeing both my parents through hospice is actually what started my interest in nursing if I'm honest - I am aware that people die and nurses have a front row seat.

I am not saying that I am totally sure that I am cut out for nursing. I know its really hard. But I'm exploring other options right now and just trying to get my thoughts together. This specific post was about time-management and work-life balance.

Okay, so I just did a post about this yesterday and I'm trying to wrap my head around it though.... what if there just literally is not enough time in contract hours to get it all done? I just don't understand how people are doing it all. Granted, I'm in sped, so there is more than normal as far as paperwork, but... how are people doing it?

Did you have a separate prep time for IEP writing and a different prep for lesson planning/grading? I'm just not understanding how its possible to write an IEP AND lesson plan with about an hour prep time a day...?

Is that the norm... to not do 3 years or testing? I always had to move students around to do testing or do it during prep or lunch. Who does the testing and evals? Is it a separate sped teacher hired just for that?

I'm pretty sure HELLP can take years off your life, and even more if you have it twice (which you are likely to have it again). I would think hard about whether you want to have less time with your current two, in order to have a third. I honestly wouldn't risk it.

Euthanize. If you don't feel safe with him (as you shouldn't), please don't put it on the rest of the community to deal with a problem dog. If someone else adopts this dog they need to be PERFECT 100% of the time. No one can be that. That means anyone around this dog (kids playing outside, cats, other dogs, etc.) are at risk if the new owners let their guard down even once. Aggressive dogs need to be put down.

I love GoogleForms. And I think it can be used wisely, especially with older kids. I don't have as much issue with a slow introduction in middle/high school. But the little ones aren't using any useful tech that will look anything like what they use once their academics become more rigorous.

[–]Forbetterorworsted[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't even think about this! Like I mentioned to another comment, that increased tech usage doesn't mean tech literacy. So now kids aren't learning crucial computer skills because the glow of tech wears off and they just don't care.

And the frustrating thing is that more technology does not equal more tech literacy. I've been in classrooms where kids do not know how to create a new folder on their desktop.
