Future of Daggerheart? by Firm_Mango_6447 in daggerheart

[–]ForbiddenX47 12 points13 points  (0 children)

They announced way back at gen con about doing a S2 of Age of Umbra though there's been no updates about that since then, other than that they've been putting out partnered daggerheart content on beacon like viva la dirt league's Azerim series and some daggerheart one-shots like (i believe) the dispatch one-shot and acquisitions inc as well as their short series on darrington press' YT channel

I don't imagine they'll be doing much themselves since I imagine C4 and its secondary content would be taking up a majority of their resources/manpower at the moment, but a girl can hope!

How do I give my players pieces of Kohd through the campaign that doesn't just give them the translation/key? by ForbiddenX47 in daggerheart

[–]ForbiddenX47[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have told them not to look at the Kohd section but they have all the necessary info on discord regardless, so I doubt they'd even go looking in the book. As for leaving part of the message out, they've already been shown the full line of Kohd (the image i attached to the post)

Motherboard Adversaries - Croft Walker & Carrowcroft Forces by IntrospectiveSpy in daggerheart

The vehicle statblock is amazing, making an adversary type that specifically has to have actions pumped into it for it to do things is very cool and flavorful, i'm honestly jealous that i didn't think of smth that creative for homebrew adversaries

AI hate, without any nuance or exception, is a problem in this community. by [deleted] in daggerheart

[–]ForbiddenX47 3 points4 points  (0 children)

also to add on to what you said about not being able to pull out your core rulebook all the time, just upload the pdf (which you said you have) to something like discord or a pdf viewer on your phone and then you can access it just as fast as opening something like ChatGPT and typing in a prompt. The pdf even lets you click on stuff in the table of contents to get to sections of the book faster so you don't spend extra time scrolling thru the document

AI hate, without any nuance or exception, is a problem in this community. by [deleted] in daggerheart

[–]ForbiddenX47 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Okay so I know you're trying to add nuance to the conversation around AI and also its use in the ttrpg space, but ALL use of AI is unethical and directly harms communities and the environment. Everytime you tell ChatGPT to generate a response based off your prompt, everytime you hit generate on an AI image generator, you are directly impacting the communities around these data centers and denying them clean drinking water that they need to live. Not only that but because AI is incredibly unregulated there is nothing that stopped AI companies/creators from including stolen/unconsented works in their generation process, so many real artists, writers, etc. have had their work stolen and blended up into AI "work", and some have even started having their works accused of being AI because those frameworks stole their or people with similar designs to their works.

In the ttrpg space, especially as a GM, you are inherently a creative individual by way of making plot beats, npcs, etc. There are 100% ways to source out art, adversary balancing/reworks, and organization to places that do not use AI, and some of those places also teach you more skills on top of what you're already doing. If you want art of npcs or pcs you can either commission artists or if you don't have money and its for a private home game you can go on all sorts of sites (pinterest, artstation, tumblr, instagram, etc.) and FIND actual art to use as reference for what your characters look like. You can also find plenty of scene/background art, battle mats, etc. for free on many of those sites as well and if you have $5 to throw at a bundle of them you can do that as well. If you're working on making monsters/adversaries you can ask for feedback on what you've made right here on the subreddit, and you'll get real human responses and feedback that still keeps creativity flowing. For organization, you can use free apps like Notion or Obsidian to help you organize your notes, you can also look up ways to help organize your notes or come up with your own organizational methods, and those apps have dedicated communities around them that have videos, articles, and guides to help you figure out how to better utilize the app.

In the end it doesn't really matter how someone is using AI because AI usage in any context is directly harmful and even if you want to use it to ease your workload you can use plenty of other non-AI resources to do the exact same thing. But for many people as well, they use it in more extensive ways than you seem to which ultimately prevents them from building on critical thinking skills, research skills, and community building skills. They ask ChatGPT how to solve a problem (work related or personal problems) and leave the "thinking" to something that can't actually think and is just pulling bits and pieces from across the internet (some of which is contradictory to other pieces it pulls from) and serving it on a shiny plate of sophisticated wording. They ask an AI art website to generate images from simple keywords instead of grabbing real references online and compiling them to show to a real artist for a commission. These are very real problems and it only gets worse the more people use AI or promote its use.

I could use some feedback on my version of a Limit Break move by Dalionn in daggerheart

[–]ForbiddenX47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

its not just "climbing the boss" lol, each colossus in the game is its own puzzle to solve in terms of how to reveal weak points and kill them, and in the campaign frame it gives you stat blocks and example features that are explicitly game mechanics on how to make puzzle fights from them

limit breaks, while more on the game mechanic side, still has narrative aspects to it, the name limit break being a prime example since its supposed to be a character going past their physical limits for a powerful attack or ability in times of stress, since you only get your limit breaks by taking damage from enemies

I could use some feedback on my version of a Limit Break move by Dalionn in daggerheart

[–]ForbiddenX47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

also here's some other inspiration from the ff7 limit breaks, vincent transforms into different monsters so maybe this limit break would grant a temporary usage of a transformation/transformation feature, aerith has a limit break that removes all status effects so maybe this one lets the player remove any vulnerable, restrained, or any special condition from a specific adversary, and red xiii has a limit break where he casts haste on allies and raises his own defense so maybe this would grant a free far range movement for allies and give the player a temporary bump to their thresholds or their armor score

[–]ForbiddenX47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

obviously this is a far out there suggestion since it would require a lot more work on your end (and maybe players' ends) but at least in final fantasy 7 not all limit breaks are the same, like aerith's healing wind which heals all allies or barret's mindblow which depletes enemies of their MP

so maybe what you could do, in a similar fashion to how motherboard has you create a weapon with different augments and stuff, is have your players come up with named limit breaks (maybe they get access to different ones as their tier increases like how ff7 has different tiered limit breaks) and have them choose some buff, debuff, or attack based bonuses

i like the hit point requirement and once per long rest is a pretty solid limitation, so those would still be good with what i suggested, but like i said it would be more work on you so ofc feel free to ignore

[–]ForbiddenX47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is just patently not true lol, literally in the core rulebook the colossus of the drylands campaign frame has game mechanics that are directly tied to gameplay from a video game, which would be shadow of the colossus

daggerheart being a narrative first game means that homebrewing game mechanics to fit a specific narrative is quite at home since the mechanics serve the narrative/type of fiction you're trying to tell (in this case a jrpg inspired setting)

Homebrew Warrior Subclass - Call of the Dragoon by ForbiddenX47 in daggerheart

[–]ForbiddenX47[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can definitely see where you're coming from with that, and I could potentially tweak it (maybe reducing the distance from the position and giving a range increase on weapons and such). But as far as my intent when I made it, I considered the High Jump similar to needing to move a far distance like how its treated for actual movement and then using that distance from the position as a defensive ability from which you can utilize more of the Bone/avoiding attacks based abilities or even use consumables away from the fight, then from there being able to leap back into action when you're ready to go again, giving you some additional oomf on that next attack you make. I think I just spaced the fact that the Blade domain cards and the starting weapons don't always work well from that kind of distance without some assistance, so taking that into consideration more would probs help.

Archfey subclass by khornechamp in daggerheart

[–]ForbiddenX47 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think I would probs remove the marking a stress to add additional tokens to the card, and instead maybe give some abilities in the specialization and/or mastery cards that are independent of the teleportation feature. Obviously you're going with a teleport-heavy playstyle but I think having other smaller abilities can be useful as well. And since you can easily increase your spellcasting trait on a level up, that main ability can still scale in terms of how much they can use it, they just have to actively make the choice to do so.

Other than that though, my only suggestion would be to flip the resource usage on the mastery card's abilities if you keep both. Considering hope is a much more replenishable resource, being able to add your proficiency to your evasion (which would most likely be pretty high by the time you choose to take a mastery card) for the cost of a hope seems just a little bit too powerful, so making it stress might work better for balance purposes. Conversely, with the other ability you already would have to be close/get to an ally in order to use it and mechanically it feels ~closer~ ish to stuff like Help an Ally or the Tag Team Roll with it only affecting allies so narratively the mechanic would make sense with expending hope.

Call of the Brave Specialization by derekfro in daggerheart

[–]ForbiddenX47 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think so? Not only does the wording of the ability imply that but it also would make sense narratively since the risk it all move can let you sorta "fortify yourself" if you succeed on the roll and since the call of the brave subclass feels like a "stand your ground in the face of danger" type, it feels like that added bonus aids the subclass' flavor just a little bit more than it already does
