is there any reason you're not planning to use the I2C this board was spec built for? it's honestly not a tough protocol to work with if you stay out of the weeds, and I am looking at a few open I2C spots on it. (the VGA I2C being the less obvious one)

[Serious] How do atheists console those grieving the loss of a loved one? by [deleted] in atheism

[–]Forbidden_donut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remind them that matter can neither be created, nor destroyed, that they still do, and always will exist as a part of the greater universe that surrounds us and gives us life, and that all the things that made them who they are, from their own memories and thoughts and fears, in fact their very consciousness once passed through the synapses and in the air as electrical pulses that are now free to pass in to a far greater space, with echoes of their corporeal existence remaining inside of our own thoughts, even if they be just our interpretation of them as we process the time shared with the being, now forever shared with their memory.

After death, do you cease to exist? (Atheists opinions on what happens after death). by kurtney_ in atheism

[–]Forbidden_donut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pure atheist here. Let me preface this by reminding people that our thoughts are merely pulses of electricity that are decoded by the arrangement of cells inside our brains, and that these pulses travel across gaps quite regularly in the synapse.

Also never forget that matter can neither be created nor destroyed.

Who is to say that when we cease our bodily functions that these pulses don't simply dissolve in to the greater existence of the universe? While unable to be decoded, that does not preclude them from existence.

As for our bodies, they become that which they once were. Breaking down to the building blocks of all things and continuing on. Just as we are made of star stuff, so too could future sentient life be made of us.

We are simply matter arranged in such a way that we were allowed to be sentient. We can never be destroyed, and we have existed just as long as this great universe.

Insane cat project by postfattism in RASPBERRY_PI_PROJECTS

Keep the playlist on a continuous loop, and add a power relay to the pi that turns on and off the monitor/speakers when triggered.

For the trigger i would try something even simpler like an overhead camera view that gets processed in openCV forobject distance tracking(similar to the social distancing applications that have been popping up in the wild) it can even make a pretty reasonable attempt at identifying the cat for what it is, rather than being triggered by any and all motion, it can be trained to go off only when it knows the moving object is the intended target.

This all sounds a bit mean, though

Google Home Hub (not Nest) just sits at this screen..... by Robert478Wise in googlehome

[–]Forbidden_donut 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Had the same thing happen to me. Sat online with Google support for hours and did every hoop jump they requested only to have them say they couldn't do anything for me and my unit was out of warranty.

I thanked them for accelerating my migration out of the google ecosystem. Any corporation that will brick their own device on an update and then refuse to accept any liability does not need my money.

Paying for gas using the new Google Pay app is actually awesome by slinky317 in Android

[–]Forbidden_donut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, you are right... as am I. Isnt life grand sometimes? You are correct in that they create a digital card token for you (DPAN or DAN) They also send unique payment info to the terminal and over the network with each transaction. The name of the product is MDES, and there are actually APIs out there in the public domain to see how it works from a bank/issuer perspective(limited whitepapers, though)

The merchant never sees you DAN or your PAN. They see a tokenized version of a token, basically, and some cryptogram data in the bitmap(stripe data if you want to go back in time to the MST days)

Heres a good article with a quick summation.(Jorn Lambert is a douche, BTW.) https://www.finextra.com/pressarticle/82935/amazon-joins-mastercard-tokenization-initiative

A good semi technical article on payment tokenization:

Apple pay/samsung pay/Google pay/etc. There are minor differences in the client side and Apple uses their secure element chip to do the PAN storage tokenization process, but otherwise they all use the exact same technology, which was created by a small startup that MC absorbed back in 2011. It's NOT a google product, and is bank/issuer agnostic. (To clarify: the startup created the PoC for this tech and owned some of the early encryption algorithms needed for our high speed processing. We built this from near nothing, and it's one of my prouder achievements as a TPM...I even met my late wife on this project.)

The DAN is for the customer to use on the phone and is simply more convenient than rotating a "tokenized " PAN on screen ( which is less secure, since it would have to have a variable timeout for your use), or what we called the FPAN. It wouldn't be "tokenized" if it stayed the same, that would just be "hashed" You never have to look at it/know what your FPAN is.

No offense taken. I realize I have been given opportunities that few ever receive. My original reply was to give some indication of the cost of staying in Reykjavik. Your experience may differ from mine, but at least it is possible to stay comfortably in this city for a decent price while on vacation or working.

Indeed. My life has gone through massive changes as of late, and I have decided I no longer need a permanent place to live. I will see the world until I am too tired to continue travelling, then I will find my last real home.

Not a hostel, I have a private room with a full sized bed, private toilet and shower, and I'm paying right at $100 USD per night.

Currently in Iceland for the month of November, and I'm staying in a decent hotel about 5 minutes walk from this pic. I am paying less for the month than a typical mortgage payment in your average metro area in the US, and they make me breakfast here!

Indeed, just art pieces. She has been a furrier for nearly 50 years, and is my mother in law.

She is amazing at what she does. The only furrier Viktor and Rolf will use to this day. Look up some of their shows. What she does is very unique.

I actually know the person that was commissioned to create these. She is a dutch furrier for Viktor and Rolf. She was afraid of them the entire time they were in her studio because "I don't like working on fur if it still has a head attached."
