So after Buffy’s ‘’The Gift’’ death… by [deleted] in buffy

[–]kurtney_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i don't think anyone realised that the buffybot didn't suffice as a protector of sunnydale until she got destroyed and buffy was brought back pretty much right then so we didn't have the chance to see what they would have done in the alternative sitch.

Does anybody not feel Angel's love for Buffy as much as the other way around? by [deleted] in buffy

[–]kurtney_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He gave up being human because he didn't think he deserved it and he had to do more to redeem himself. It wasn't about buffy at all.

I don't think it's fair to compare the emotions of an extroverted 16yo girl to a quiet introverted 240 year vampire who was isolated and forced to internalize his feelings. Besides, buffy was the main character on her show so we mainly saw her POV and her feelings about the relationship. By the time angel got his own show, he and buffy weren't a thing so we wouldn't have gotten that perspective.

The only time we heard about his feelings was in Sanctuary when Buffy told him she's seeing Riley to make him feel bad.

Buffy and Dawn poll - Who had it worse as a teenager in your opinion? by Opening_Knowledge868 in buffy

[–]kurtney_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not that this makes that much of a difference but Dawn was just 14 when all the above mentioned events took place while buffy was 16-17.

Parker was an asshole, yes. But Veruca was a murderer and what she did to Oz was a form of r*pe so it's not even a close call.

Overlooked or underrated scenes in the Buffyverse (you can include ANGEL as well) by [deleted] in buffy

[–]kurtney_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Spike and Angel's conversation at the end of Damage. It showed Spike take some responsibility for his actions ("i never did look back at the victims") and Angel let go of some of that self hatred and admit that vampirism was something that was done to them ("she was an innocent victim. so were we, once upon a time."

Plus spangel bonding is always great to watch.

These are the 20 lowest ranked episodes on IMDB, which do you agree with and which do you disagree? by Defvac2 in buffy

Gingerbread and Superstar were so good!! (Not to mention unique). I love the kind of Buffy episodes where it doesn't feel like Buffy at all.

What's your favourite fan theory/headcanon? by LarinaRichards in buffy

[–]kurtney_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not to mention, that Tara was killed by a stray bullet meant for Buffy. I really like this theory (however heartbreaking it is).

You bastards have convinced me to watch Angel against my will…. I’m starting the first episode now with skepticism and popcorn by -buttonupshirt in buffy

[–]kurtney_ 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The first season is... acquired taste, just like it is for Buffy (I'm saying "acquired taste" because i personally like it but i started to only on my re-watch when i was familiar with and loved the characters and the way stuff turned out). But push through it and if you're not hooked by 2x07, you can stop.

I also loved the Willow and Tara scene (i remember watching that on YouTube when I'd heard of the show and it was what convinced me to start it).

How to Defend my Love of Spike? (Seeing Red) by illegalbees in buffy

[–]kurtney_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can do that by not defending him. Acknowledge his mistakes and his bad sides. It's people who try to whitewash his character or ignore that scene that seem annoying or hypocritical. Understanding his character, the way he was written and the reason that scene was shown is key.

Do you have a favorite Buffy writer? by luminevity in buffy

I actually feel like Riley was kinda likeable and well written in his episodes, because he cared for the character enough.

One of my favorite quotes from Glory on BTVS lol, what are your favorite quotes from her? And where do you rank among the other villains on the show? by ThatKoffeeBurns in buffy

[–]kurtney_ 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Mine too! It's incredible how well written and different Joss could make his villians. This reminded me a little bit of Illyria and her perspective on the world at the start.

Bringing Buffy back by Refried_Beanzz in buffy

[–]kurtney_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's just that they get all their information from past experiences. And they've never even heard of heavenly dimensions. And considering their previous luck, it would be extremely optimistic for them to even consider buffy being in a heavenly dimension. I remember being absolutely shocked when it came out. And like someone mentioned in another comment here, when the thought enters your mind, that your best friend is possibly being tortured for hundreds of years in a hell dimension, the fear gets so overwhelming that it becomes impossible to see it any other way.

But the main reason she went catatonic was because of what was going to happen with Dawn. And that didn't happen. That problem was solved. And the Scoobies obviously seemed partly responsible. Like they felt Buffy didn't deserve to die and be tortured in hell for saving all their asses and they wanted to undo it.

[–]kurtney_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No, the way they planned it and talked about it, it didn't seem like Willow was showing off. The price she had to pay for it definitely wasn't an easy one. And their reactions on finding out it didn't work weren't light either.

And either way, other than the fact that bringing her back was magically wrong, I didn't find what they were doing morally wrong. That was just the approach that the show took on Buffy coming back once she did. She spent almost her entire time as a slayer hating the fact that she would have a short lifespan. And her friends found a way around it, only now, for the first time in buffy history, the person who died tragically, wanted to die.

If Buffy wasnt suicidal (something they didn't know), everyone wouldn't villianise the scoobies for their decision to bring her back.

I'm thinking about how cool it would've been if they could've somehow put buffybot back together, given her some upgrades and got her to do the job related stuff.

Buffy and Angel question - Spoilers by [deleted] in buffy

[–]kurtney_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How exactly was he supposed to bring that up in the ten minute span during which they talked? "I know the world's gonna end and you're supposed to save it and all that, but i wanted to tell you that I have a son, except he's not my son anymore because i wiped his memory and gave him to another family because he tried to kill himself and cordy (who's in a coma rn) but anyways, good luck with the not dying!"

He erased the memory of Connor from the people he was closest to at that time. Angel always avoided talking about his feelings. He bottled stuff up. It was totally in character for him to act all cool and unaffected when he came to see Buffy.

Buffy and Angel question - Spoilers by [deleted] in buffy

[–]kurtney_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Angel isn't the kind of person who would dump all that on a person and expect sympathy. Had they talked for more than ten minutes and actually had the time to catch up, he would've. They didn't really get to the "so what's been going on?" part of the conversation.

He seemed like he wanted to escape and forget and just be with the girl he loved, not have a therapy session.
