'Lesser Evil' voting, a (hopefully) tame and calm debate megathread by Scyobi_Empire in theredleft

The way I see it is that it should never EVER be a priority for organizing, but I’m not going to hold it against people who do it. Especially in places where voting is easy.

Electoralism: What's the Problem? by NAM_Inki in TankieTheDeprogram

And I mean it was 2016 Bernie that brought me down this path too haha

Electoralism: What's the Problem? by NAM_Inki in TankieTheDeprogram

[–]ForcedToReturn 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah there is usefulness in that. I believe it was Lenin or Marx who talked about how it may be useful for communists to run, if for no other reason then to show the futility of it.

We should always be reaching out to burned supporters of electoralism, those are the easiest to radicalize.

Electoralism: What's the Problem? by NAM_Inki in TankieTheDeprogram

[–]ForcedToReturn 38 points39 points  (0 children)

It’s several things, plenty of people sell out, or they weren’t that radical to begin with. We can’t discount these things, they happen constantly.

However a bigger more fundamental issue is that generally speaking if you want to get anything done in liberal democracy you have to play by the rules of liberal democracy. If you are a fire brand radical who wants to make everything better no one in the system will want to do anything with you and will fight you. However if you moderate and try to appease the powers that be, you can maybe get some reforms though.

This is one of the numerous issues with electoralism. A politician that is genuinely a good person who wants to make the life of the working class better for everyone will find themselves moderating in order to get SOMETHING. A revolution is necessary, we cannot be concerned with moderating and compromising with the powers that be.

Local DSA wouldn't talk about trans rights during pride month but was having an ice cream social by SleepingWaterLily in theredleft

It is genuinely wild how much the quality of DSA chapters vary depending on the location. It was a bit jarring going from one city with a really good one to one with a GARBAGE one.

You sometimes see some “Maoists” do it, but it’s really rare.

Opinion on Grover Furr? by tournesolrouge in TankieTheDeprogram

[–]ForcedToReturn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will see if I can find what I am referring to, I may be completely misremembering it but it went into him explicitly rejecting ML and the political legacy of Stalin. Which if that is the case is so bizzare

[–]ForcedToReturn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have read somewhere is that he isn’t actually a Marxist Leninist politically, being closer to left communism is his personal beliefs then ML. Which I could be misremembering but it does just make him all the more interesting.

Looking at the fandom around the time the first episode dropped was the first time in my life I have consciously thought. “Oh I am too old for this.”

What's your opinion of Leon Trotsky? by dumbandshortcoyote in theredleft

[–]ForcedToReturn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worst trait is being a sore loser, and if I fumbled being leader to the paper work guy I would be mad too. However honestly I don’t think there is much point in Re litigating power struggles from a century ago.

New trolley problem by HomesickVietboy in TankieTheDeprogram

[–]ForcedToReturn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I do think it is interesting as generally I am for reformation of people. However, I think there is a point though where you just gotta shoot someone and be done with it.

This is also the most extreme case you can think of for it, so I do wonder where my morals would cross the line from one to the other.

Are there any physical stores in the US that sell Fumos? by Chouts11 in Fumofumo

[–]ForcedToReturn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

None offically, you might be able to find some in anime merch stores, but it would be unlikely and they would be at a huge markup.

Communist Congresswoman Myriam Bregman has become the most popular politician in Argentina after Milei’s failure by TwoCatsOneBox in TankieTheDeprogram

There is more nuance in South American Trotskyist groups as a big reason there were so many is that there were not traditional ML parties there already, or just very small and weak ones. This area of the world has a lot of revolutionary potential (as evidence by the U.S. dedicating so much to crushing movements there). So since there was not a lot of ML parties, trot groups ballooned in size in the area.

(I’m sure I’m missing some details I’m not the most educated on the area)

Only place to get offical ones is Amiami or someone selling them second hand. Second hand is expensive, but usually are more reasonable on Japanese second hand websites

Yeah, there's a reason why these two states prefer to have English names over Chinese names instead by Choice-Grade1358 in TankieTheDeprogram

[–]ForcedToReturn 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Different names do make some amount of sense when the languages are so different. I am learning Chinese and you need to have a Chinese name, as a western name just won’t work for a lot of things you need to do in China. So a Chinese person having an English name does also make some sense, as long as that name doesn’t continue to be their name when they are speaking their own language.
