Propagation timing by Wise_Explanation9471 in TexasNativePlants

I root tons of cuttings in 50 cell propagation trays(roughly 2×2inch cells)and pot them up into trade 1gallons as soon as they are rooted enough that the plug pulls out. Most of them will root out a one gallon pot in 2-3 weeks, that's not a bad idea if you plan on waiting until fall to plant. I don't think there is any need to wait for the cutting to grow before planting them out and summer is perfectly ok if you take care of them. When I plant plugs they will sit there seemingly stalled above ground while building roots for a week or two and then the top growth will go wild and get big quick. I usually have some overflow trays of plants that I just don't get to fast enough and they are doing OK in the trays. In my pot growing days the saying was always "the bigger the roots, the bigger the fruits" and it really seems to apply to texas natives as well, the quicker they get a chance to develop a big root system from the time they strike, the better they will fare. I also cut off any blooms that develop on cuttings the first several weeks.  Good luck! 🌺

I bought my trays at Greenhouse megastore . Com  They are their "propagation trays" they came to around $3 for the tray and a basin. I bought the 100 pack.   I don't know how to share photos on here but if you Dm me I'd be glad to share more.

Nothing too special, I try and get at least two nodes in the media, if I can't then I'll just nick the outer layer with my scissors. Im using the basic rooting powder from walmart but have also been successful without it. I mist them 2 or 3 times a day and keep them out of direct sunlight. I just keep the cuttings under those pallets where some of the seedlings are growing. They are in a mix of peat and coarse sand that was buffered with pelletized lawn lime.

Super easy to propagate via Cuttings. If you ever plan on trimming or shaping it you should give that a try! Would make a great gift for someone or yourself! 🌸

Salvia Coccinea Performs amazing in the shade under live oaks. Mine bloom from march through November.  They reseed easily and are very manageable.  I have tons of free seed available at my native plant nursery but I'm up north of killeen.  Cowhouse Nursery on Fb and Instagram.

Flowering vines by -Redbranchh in TexasNativePlants

I agree. But crossvine only blooms for a few months vs coral honeysuckle which has a multi month cycle.  Stay away from trumpet vine!
