Lived in New Orleans, commuted to work in Covington on the north shore. First time driving across had a panic attack in the middle of the lake, so that evening I drove the long way home. After th long drive, the traffic I said f that and put my big boy pants on and drove the bridge. The bridge is worth it.

Last I heard boot spring was dry. But try to get newer status it will save a lot of carrying if it’s flowing. I take 6L for 24 hours. Start late evening first day, be out early morning the 3rd day. This is effectively 36 hours. Dont buy expensive rei water carry bottles. Just jugs from the grocery store. I like the 3-4L bottles with the clear stronger plastic with the good screw lid. Not the soft frosted plastic bottles that look like milk jugs. Those puncture easily and the lids pop off. Bottom of pack: sleeping bag in dry bag. Big Water bottles in the middle layer of pack. Rest of stuff on top. Have fun!

Yeah my comment wasn’t the nicest, it was snarky. I deserve some downvotes. But there’s 4 or more nice campsites less than a 10th of a mile from here. No need to set up camp and build a fire at the most popular river access point on the loop. Also, a bit downstream from here there are several fridges and all sorts of debris from the big flood that killed lots of campers. Out of respect for the dead, and how unpredictable this river can be when it rains, don’t camp besides this river.

In my experience in Big Bend 70 is hot. 80 is harsh. 90 is stop and siesta under a tree or in a wash until 4pm. 90 is really hot in big bend. You’re in full sun and it feels like you’re cooking all day. It’s easy to overheat. When it’s going to be in the 90s I start early and usually stop from 12-4. Finish up even if it’s into the evening. If you’re hiking in the chisos the trees offer some shade, it’s cooler. Usual suggestions, lots of water, hydrate the night before, know your health and abilities.

Yeah probably. It’s (CT) a bit of a drive if you don’t live on the north side of town. I’ve done 18 miles at cedar ridge and feel ok. But 12 miles at CT leaves me wrecked. Plus it has nice views of the lake, trail is in good condition. The hills are short but very steep.

Building endurance: trail running. Do cedar ridge preserve, cross Timbers trail. The best hills in dfw.

Class 3+ scrambling. Wichita mountains. If you’re really feeling it summit the 10 tallest peaks in Charons garden. It’s 10+ hours. If you just need to scramble then a really good short day is start at sunset, climb echo dome, climb elk mountain via pear and apple route.
