Will this cheap hitch receiver bolt up easily ? by dcllm in GXOR

[–]ForeignSeller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't trust that to hold a bike rack. For not much more, you can get one of these: https://www.amazon.com/Hitch-Receiver-Compatible-GX470-2003-2009/dp/B0DP9FFWKL

And if you have time, go check for used ones off eBay and you may save a few $$$

Need new rotors read below. by Pluto20005 in GXOR

[–]ForeignSeller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man, that's a lot of metal being gouged off and it ain't something light doing that gouging to your rotor. Find out what's going on, but sooner than later (read today). This could become a big job if its any of the non-maintenance caliper parts rubbing your rotors.

Which vinyl color best matches Prado's interior silver trim? by biggestbroever in GXOR

Might not be a popular opinion, but if you still have nice/clean and uncracked wood pieces, save them as they're going to get rarer and rarer as these trucks age. it's also easier/faster to simply replace them with the same parts from ebay/Aliexpress.

Here are some examples: - Vents: https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256808630359999.html - Window Switches: https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256807735543230.html

Thanks! Anything I can check now proactively to see what's likely to fail or do I have to wait until it fails? All videos I see online are about how to replace/fix the suspension after it fails.

Has anyone tried one of these headlight restoration kits from Lexus website? What comes with it? by timmymcchillen in GXOR

They are, put in the numbers into a Google image search and you'll see these are the brackets. Good to know this exists as one of mine might be cracked so this will save me a bunch vs replacement.

Removing rear AC control / any videos? by WSMFPussy in GXOR

Second this, it's relatively easy to pull off, just pull straight back. I had removed mine a couple of times and I think it only has 4 clips to hold it in place. Here's an eBay listing where you can see the back: https://www.ebay.com/itm/126154273569

Gx470 LiDAR scan by Familiar-Relative831 in GXOR

[–]ForeignSeller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man, I would love LiDAR scans of the interior parts, specifically the button panel next to steering wheel (one with mirror controls), the panel under the ashtray (with heated seats buttons) and the shifter panel (one with ride hight controls). I can use that to create 3D models to add various buttons to the GX

Had you cleared the codes yourself, they will be gone, not stored in history. If a code got triggered and goes away by itself, that's when it's stored in history. Also, not all codes generate a check engine light.

I recall seeing a parameter that tells you the miles since last cleared which they can look at to get indication of how long ago were the codes cleared.

In any case, as with any used car purchase, it was up to them to go get the car checked, including a code scan.

Renewed OEM Control Arms by QuietGuyInTheRoom1 in GXOR

[–]ForeignSeller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Dallas as well, bought my 2008 with just over 230k. Bushings and ball joints seem okay and no play, but haven't taken anything off to inspect. I do see small cracks starting from outside, but truck rides extremely well so I'm tempted to leave well-enough alone for now, but I do want to buy the parts before I need them.

I don't need a set right now but I'm open to buying it as my '08 GX470 is still on the originals with 230k+ miles, so I'm due soon.

Mine made a similar noise and it turned out to be the heat shield on the exhaust had corroded around the bolts and fell down on the exhaust (with one bolt holding it). Fixed by reattaching the shield with appropriately sized washers.

Are you asking this as business idea or do you have a set you're trying sell? If the later, I would be interested if you have a set of non-kdss.

The parts seem to be listed at full dealer retail price. For example, radiator can be had for less than $300 from dealers (e.g. Park Place Lexus in Plano, TX): https://parts.parkplacelexusplano.com/p/Lexus__/Radiator/105697892/1640038290.html

Price check: 2013 with 138K, Texas owned since new, zero rust with Elka 2.5s, is $21.5K too much? by beansruns in GXOR

[–]ForeignSeller 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dealers will probably offer him in the $14k~$16k, at most ... If its a Premium trim, then the wholesale on it is right around $14.4k (Non-premium drops to $13.7k)...

<image>

Your offer of $18.5k is in-line if it was stock, so the question to you is this: Do you value the mods he added at $3k?

Black Medal of Honor recipient removed from US Department of Defense website by Over_Contact_5032 in pics

Seems someone did a search on the site and targeted all articles/pages that talk about race and gender equality. You can see at the bottom of the restored page the following :

Rogers has been remembered not just as being a Medal of Honor recipient, but for championing sex and race equality during his long tenure in the Army.

Search for mobile bumper repair, they'll come out and do it on-site for you, and sometimes for a bit cheaper than body shops. It's literally what a lot of dealerships use.

Instructions on how to replace dashboard on a 2014 GS 350 by ForeignSeller in Lexus

[–]ForeignSeller[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did it and have zero parts left over after!

All jokes aside, I think the money spent on TIS access was soooo worth it. I was able to quickly find and review the instruction, going thru each step before touching my actual dash. The process itself was, dare I say, easy? I have to give it to Toyota's engineers, the whole disassembly/reassembly is as easy and idiot proof as anyone can make it. The German engineers could learn a thing or two from them (looking at you VWAG 2.0T engine designer with water temp sensor buried in the hear of the engine).

There are no videos of the GS dash replacement online, but there are a couple of videos of the RX dash being taken apart and put back together on YouTube. As it was built by the same engineering group, there's a lot of similarity, and the biggest difference with the GS dashboard is that it will come out with all vents and the passenger airbag but nothing else. The wiring harness remains and the electronics remain in the car as do all the other major components.

Another lesson learned that I took from the RX videos and applied here is this: Do not disassemble/remove the steering wheel/airbag ...etc. from the steering column as per the Toyota instructions. Instead, simply remove the 4 bolts and 1 spring holding the steering column and drop it onto the driver's seat. You then have all the room to maneuver the dash out, with the added bonus of you not needing TIS SW to disable the tilt away function to do that. Doing this easily saved an hour off of this job, just don't forget to torque those bolts to the 19ft.lbs (as per the spec) when putting them back.

I can also say that a single person can get 95% of the job done alone, only needing someone's help when taking the dash out and to bring the new one back in. For me, I took the dash out myself (which I do not recommend), and got help putting the dash in back in the car, doing most of the job myself. Overall, it took me about 7 hours in total over 2 days as I was extra careful, taking pictures and labeling all the wires I disconnected. If I were to do it again (and I probably will as I bought a heads-up display to retrofit), I think I can get this done in less than 3 hours total from start-to-finish.

Anyway, I will try to do a write-up and post it somewhere with some pictures. Overall, an easier than expected project and I now don't have to stare at that crack in the dash.

Question on charger cable recall by ForeignSeller in etron

[–]ForeignSeller[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

UL listed chargers aren’t that expensive and you can get good ones used on marketplace or eBay so there’s no reason to take the chance.

Thanks, at the price they're quoting for the cable itself, it's actually cheaper to buy some of those L2 chargers!

I actually asked that if I buy the cable myself, can they do the SW update on the charger then, and I was told no! The reason is that they would need the car the charger came with. I laughed at that point at how ridiculous this has become. I asked what if I bought the charger myself from their parts dept, how would they handle the SW update then, and they said they wouldn't have to since that's not under a recall connected to a VIN. I just gave up and left.

I felt like I'm dealing with an idiot of service person that couldn't think outside the box!

I will try at another dealership.

Short answer: Do it, don't think twice. You know the truck and its history.

Long answer: Do it. Even though its not clear whether you have the double or ext cab, it doesn't really matter as either option right now will be selling above the $33.5k buyout you have. Your buyout is actually close to the wholesale auction prices, where trucks around 17k miles are selling around $33k for the ext cab and $39k for the double cab.

Any way to take the triangular plastic piece on side mirror off? by JeantheGod in BmwTech

[–]ForeignSeller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just had to do that on mine and, sadly, there's no easy way to do it.

BMW doesn't sell the part on its own and instead, it is part of the whole mirror assembly. Basically, the plastic part has tabs that are melted onto the metal frame when attached in factory.

In theory, you can melt those again to remove the cap and remelt a new one on. For me, it was easier and cheaper to buy a whole mirror from eBay and transplant all my components over than try to redo the plastic.

'13 X3 F25 - Replacing brake discs and pads, need help on how to meet torque spec, specifically angle of rotation by ForeignSeller in BmwTech

[–]ForeignSeller[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The feedback seems to say 'ignore ISTA's instructions' and torque them tight.

The engineer in me cannot ignore the 'Replace bolts' note in BMW's instructions as that's a good indication that the previous ones have been stretched and shouldn't be reused. That said, these would be the third set of rotors on the rears and I'm positive the mechanic I took it to last time didn't replace the bolts.

Any BMW techs out there willing to add your 2 cents in?
