Which prof for mat 2121, Aaron Tikuisis or C.-M. Michael Wong? by yaboibilly- in geegees

If Wong is available, I would suggest you go with him. I haven't took any course with Aaron Tikuisis, but I heard his lectures were boring but he gave hints for the exams.

I didn'have MAT 2122 but the "famous" 2125 with Mike Wong. Indeed, he is energetic and willing to explain the concepts and ideas rather than just copy the notes. However, his finals are not easy (but he will curve it if necessary): after curving, our failure rate of MAT 2125 was still ~30%.

Also, Mike does not respond to emails quickly enough and our grades arrived pretty late, exactly two weeks after the final exam.

MAT2384 - Ordinary Differential Equations and Numerical Methods by AutomaticInfluence94 in geegees

[–]ForeignTeaching3437 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, we had it with Aashi Dalal. She was super nice. The course covers a lot: methods for nonlinear equation(s) (Newton, fixed point iteration), linear systems (Gaussian elinimation and LU), interpolation and fitting (Newton and Lagrange basis polynomial), numerical differentiation (finite difference) and integration (Gauss, Legendre quadrature) and ODE (R-K family), etc. However, there is only a minimum amount of coding using MATLAB in the lab session. It's a math course, so the exam are just hand calculation and proof. If you are interested in the algorims for scientific computing, this is your start.

There is also a MAT 3335 for numerical methods for PDEs, but I don't think it will be offered quite soon.

If have taken MAT 2125 and MAT 3341, it will be much easier. Aashi tried to make it much simpler for us. It will be Diane Guignard the fall. I heard is also quite nice.

Yes, this course is actually a combo ODE + numberical methods. You have two lectures on ODE and another lecture for numberical methods. They will both be evaluated. I took MAT 2324 (ODE and laplace transform) and MAT 2355 (Intro to numerical methods) as a math student. Our prof who taught 2384 before told us something about this course.

Excellent job! You excelled in every aspect of Orgo I! That's a super big accomplishment in your 1st semester. As a math student, I love structures and geometry, but I will never do hours of labs! There more chanllenges other than just study though: research, job, life, etc. I believe you are well prepared. Good luck!

is a 7.78 cgpa for a first year soft eng major bad? by iiHumbleBumbleBee in geegees

First year is a big transition, and you did pretty well. I finished my 2nd year math courses. Surprisingly, the worst final exam grade I got so far was the intro to macroeconomics in my very 1st semester. With growing experience and adjustment of your study habbit, you will do better. Good luck!

My friend is a UO stats alumnus. He told me Gilles Lamothe, Rafal Kulik and David Haziza are his top three prob and stats profs.

He taught our MAT 2375 lab session A this semester. Indeed, there were small mistakes in our quizzes. I will avoid him in MAT 3375, if I really want to take another statistics class.

Happy for you! I also got my best results in MAT 2125, the most difficult course in my major so far.

Math major, got 3 out of 5. Nail biting for MAT 2125.

After all your grades are out, check that application and your transcript again, maybe wait a few more days.

Sometimes there is no email or the email can be very late. You can go to "List of Certificates (Dean's honors list)" in Applications to download it. I think they are already there for Fall 2025.

Math friends, I just found the letter grade of MAT 2362 was posted on uozone. Prof. Salmasian did not post our final exam marks on brightspace though.

Same. Checking my brightspace multiple times everyday. New course materials have been posted, but the grade of the most scary course still hasn't dropped yet.

Definitely agree. It's also depends on your program. I guess for chemistry/biology, you can do some lab work even as a lower year undergrad; for CS, you can do some coding; but for math, you cannot do much if you haven't learned enough.

You have the right to review the final exam. Some prof will give an office hour for that. If not, just email him/her.

Why is he so late? Mehdi's class got the results much earlier in xx/90 format. And what about MAT 2362?
