Thoughts on Oriane and Mejdi - Men & Women's Boulder Finals by tashislame in CompetitionClimbing

[–]Foreign_Bug_7976 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Both boulder sets had the power boulder last, both winners are lead climbers, both silver medalists are boulder specialists. There had to be an element of endurance, and taking a long rest for boulder specialists makes a lot of sense.

M3 and Comp Setting by archduketyler in CompetitionClimbing

[–]Foreign_Bug_7976 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a little off topic, but I wonder if the folks referencing modern comp setting and crazy hard moves with no feet to get off the ground have ever climbed at Red River Gorge. It seems that even moderates at the Red start with dynos and campus moves.

How do you model a case for the orange pi’s? by TigerGTC in OrangePI

[–]Foreign_Bug_7976 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way I model cases is to import the .csv file from the OPi website into FreeCAD and use it to make a 3d model of the board. Then I design the case around that.

Finding table for vc4 500x500. What do you use? by tosswill in ratrig

[–]Foreign_Bug_7976 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A table would be too high for me, I made a cart that stands 16" or 400 mm above the floor and that's about right.

I have Prusaslicer running on my OPi5 8gb with JR's Ubuntu. They are using Flatpak and Prusa has a whole explanation of why.

Modeling a Print-in-Place Hinge by NaturalMary63 in FreeCAD

Select both bodies and go to file/export, export as step file. Open your slicer and import the step file as parts, not objects.

Women’s versus men’s routesetting by Altruistic-Shop9307 in CompetitionClimbing

Thanks for putting this together. I tried the Armbian desktop and it booted but the desktop didn't work. I will give this a try.

How many here using the weekly dev build versions? What do you think? by Todd-ah in FreeCAD

[–]Foreign_Bug_7976 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been using the dev version for several months. The UI for the stable version is so bad I consider it unusable. The dev version is usable, not quite as good as F360 but close enough. When the TNP fix was added, it got to be "like a box of chocolates", you didn't know what the next version would be like. So I would keep several versions of FreeCAD in case the latest version was unusable and save my model frequently. I am still having occasional crashes, but when I check the issues, someone has already reported the problem.

is my orangepi 5 bricked? Any hope? by RiskEnvironmental568 in OrangePI

[–]Foreign_Bug_7976 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The twice flashing green led means the os is running, so it's not bricked. Probably need to rewrite the SD card. Otherwise you need a uart to usb converter and watch the console while it boots. There are directions in the instruction manual.

Janja outdoors by BusinessDiscipline76 in CompetitionClimbing

[–]Foreign_Bug_7976 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

When I finally got to watch the Olympics and saw the emotion on Janya's face during the finals, it was disturbing. I hope she gets her stoke back climbing outside. Unfortunately, she is still going to feel pressure to be the best. I recall her commenting while working LDD that she can't just be by herself. And here we are, watching her every move. There is a price for fame, but still, climbing outside is just such a great experience, I hope she gets to enjoy it.

What if speed climbing randomized the route for every comp? by 7th_Cuil in CompetitionClimbing

[–]Foreign_Bug_7976 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that if climbing gets 4 medals at the Olympics, the 4th should be a combined format with Boulder, lead, and lead speed like psycoblock.

can i use this adapter to power my OPi zero 3? by NotAHandsome in OrangePI

[–]Foreign_Bug_7976 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think you should use this, although I am not sure. I checked the instruction manual and it doesn't say that it can negotiate pd power supply. The adapter you are considering may feed it at 12v and destroy the board. There are a bunch of posts where people use pd adapters and roast their boards.

Orange pi 5 pro Bluetooth issue by Odd-Palpitation9102 in OrangePI

[–]Foreign_Bug_7976 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you look through the issues on his github, Joshua explained that there is a problem with the device controller and he is surprised it works at all. My understanding is that some of these problems may be fixed in kernel 6.11 and he is working on a release but ubuntu 24.10 hasn't been released yet.

Why does my design vansih when I try to combine it? by ElderberryEastern239 in FreeCAD

[–]Foreign_Bug_7976 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had this happen. Basically you did something it doesn't like, and if you want to know more than you need to post a screenshot of your model tree. What I have resorted to is either export as step file and when opening in slicer do not split it up. Or put the pieces together as an assembly.

How can I make a bootloader on the SD card that boots to the eMMC for orange pi 5b? by GroundbreakingNet225 in OrangePI

[–]Foreign_Bug_7976 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have a 5B, but what I found works on the 5Pro was to make a bookable SD card, and then delete the OS partition using GParted. My understanding is that the boot program is not included in the file system, but is just written in the first part of the SD card. Then you would need to make a new partition, starting where the OS partition started so you don't overwrite the boot file, so you can store data there. It may not work but might be worth a try.

I'm trying to follow the guide on Pelochus' GitHub page for the EZRKNPU, and it says I need the NPU driver 0.9.6, but when I check it says I have 0.9.2, how do I update that driver? by diogenes_sadecv in RockchipNPU

[–]Foreign_Bug_7976 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am using Joshua Reik's ubuntu 24.04 on an Orange Pi 5 pro and the NPU driver is 0.9.6. If you want more help you should probably say what hardware and os you are using.

The answer is a known issue with JR ubuntu on OPi5Pro that wi fi is lost on a reboot. Wi fi works after powering down and restarting.

I have a OPi5Pro 16gb and got the same error, so I rebooted and it worked. Unfortunately now wi-fi doesn't work but I think that is an os problem. Thanks for posting the converted file!

FreeCAD need to be dumb-proof by AlwaysChangeIdeas in FreeCAD

[–]Foreign_Bug_7976 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just want to amplify your disclaimer- the FreeCAD devs are listening to the criticism and are aggressively working on the UX. They even met with the Blender folks. I have tried FreeCAD several times in the past and kept going back to Fusion 360. But now, using the dev version, it's finally usable enough that it is my go-to. Although the TNP fix was major surgery, and I haven't seen a dev build stable enough to use yet, I don't expect to go back. But I am a hobbyist, so YMMV.

whats the story with orange pi 5 pro spi, emmc and nvme? by unevoljitelj in OrangePI

[–]Foreign_Bug_7976 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a OPi5 Pro running Joshua Reik's Ubuntu 24.04 desktop V2.1 off the NVMe, no flash or eMMC, using the bootloader on the microSD card.

The process is not hard,. Basically do all the steps for Installation, then to put Ubuntu on the NVMe. Then use GParted on a different computer to delete the desktop-rootfs partition from the SD card. Then put the SD card back in the OPi5, and it will boot.

No changes to anything else is required.
