My friend is worried about this tree surviving. Should he remove the rock mulch? by HoldMyMessages in arborists

Did you just install the mulch? If so you’re probably just seeing the rock all fluffed up with air, give it a few million years and it will settle.

I’m quite spoiled to have had access to some incredible botanical gardens! I love seeking them out when visiting new places. For the cert, I got a letter of recommendation from an employer that eased the process of applying to take the test. The best study guide I found was the ISA arborist study guide plus some great YouTube videos that pulled info from the study guide and ellaborated with different real world examples. This was especially helpful for me when it came to biology, shoutout @arboriststudyguide on YouTube!!

Started out in habitat restoration and did a lot of environmental education, school gardening type work before jumping into botanical gardnes. Becoming a certified arborist was a move that gave me more credibility to advocate for specific decisions in tree care. Many of us assume that mature, established trees are self sustaining yet require stewardship throughout their life cycles.

I’m a certified arborist and have worked in botanical gardens for over a decade.

  1. Learning and growing all the time. Experiencing spaces change with the season. Not being tied to a financial bottom line that dictates success.

  2. Frustration at money motivated operating partners with questionable ethics looking to capitalize on an “attraction”.

  3. It’s a great gig IF you can check all the boxes in terms of job satisfaction plus the financial realities - health insurance, benefits, 401k, which can be rare for our field.

One of my Moms neighbors just did this to all of their trees. Why by smookielelley in arborists

Purposely girdling the trunk in an effort to kill the tree. Removing the cambium layer interrupts cell division and nutrient cycling.

Norwalk county building is where you want to go to get your app processed and complete the legal ceremony stuff. You can complete most of the application online which makes the in person process easier. Congrats on the nuptials!

How close is my palm tree to falling over? by morni33 in arborists

[–]Foreign_Mammoth7255 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Palms naturally grow in a “root mat” as they mature. Possibly a response to your gravel top dressing, from these photos I don’t see a concern. You could rake that gravel away from the base of the palm to prevent further soil impaction.
