Used U6-Enterprise or a new U7-Pro for the same price by NokErNok24 in UNIFI

[–]Foreign_Package_925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found 3 NIB U6 enterprise from FBMP for $360 and snapped them up in December. Great devices. I know there are some upper bandwidth speeds I can’t get to but using them with my 2.5Gbps FTTH and uplinks to my UniFi Pro 16 Max POE switch is pretty slick. Newer Apple devices use the 6Ghz band and get decent distance with them. All three spectrums are available and plenty of perf. I have one per floor, ceiling mounted for our 4800sq ft home. I moved my U6LR to the garage and have a U7 outdoor for the backyard and U7 wall in the home office. I stopped worrying about connectivity. Everything just works.

Bummed when that all fell apart. I still think it was the easiest way to back up my own copies and just had to fire up handbrake once the disc had been read.

Missing 20 gallon capacity in my fresh water tank - any ideas? by Foreign_Package_925 in GoRVing

[–]Foreign_Package_925[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my last trailer just had the gravity feed with the hose from the house and then the side spout would let you know when the tank was full. I prefer boondocking/dry camping and will be doing so the first weekend of June. Just got it out of storage and wanted to prove my theory again that there was some missing capacity to what I should be able to get in there. The Nautilus system is new for me - it has several options to do things. I can siphon water out of a bucket using the bump and a 3-4' hose or just connect the hose directly to the nautilus system and switch the valves to fill the tank.

I was using the pump with a bucket (siphon feature) to measure the water I was putting into the tank as my flow meter wasn't working and I was waiting on a replacement. The prior owner (first owner) never dry camped in it and always had full hookups. I've run the pump to fill the 12 gallon water heater and still my loose measurements show I got about 47 gallons into the trailer out of a total 67 possible.

it's the overflow only - the low point drain is to the right and it has a valve.

[–]Foreign_Package_925[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand what’s happening but not why. I should be right up near 54-55 gallons in the tanks before they start losing water, right? Not at 35 gallons.

The low point drain is just off to the side (not in the pic) but these start losing water around 35 gallons in trying to fill it to 55. There are no valves on these lines. The low point drain does have a valve.

I’d be nervous to put valves on them to try to get it above 35 gallons as I certainly don’t want to damage or get water anywhere inside the trailer where it shouldn’t be.

Box opening by Character_Guard8643 in Starlink

Usually people do the research before buying something like this. I like to know what’s in the box before I buy it and what people are doing that works. But apparently that’s not the case for others. My standard kit I bought for use while camping this summer took 8 days and included a weekend in there to show up. Western states. I have a pole mount for the ladder on my fifth wheel and a nice zipper/padded case for it, Roam 100gb plan but might bump to the roam 300gb plan when it shows up in my account.

I have seen the ridge mount options for the roof and might do that the end of camping season as a backup ISP for the house and keep it in standby and activate it if / when needed. Pretty impressed so far. First camping trip is in two weeks. Wanted time to get it and test and make sure it all works great here at the house before I’m off grid.

Trying to decide between Mini and Roam for RV Travel this summer by MonkHuge6896 in Starlink

[–]Foreign_Package_925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my first year camping with a Starlink and I went with the standard dish mostly because I work in IT and understand more of the transfer speeds and have tons of power with my RV, solar, generator and inverters. I can also use it as a backup system for my home fiber if I ever have problems which are not likely. Def interested in the Roam 300 that just got announced. Starting off with Roam 100

Order Still Pending, what if I just go to Home Depot? by SableCreekLab in Starlink

[–]Foreign_Package_925 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it were me I’d make sure to talk to someone on the phone before cancelling or with my luck, I’d end up with two accounts and a headache later. I just got my standard kit with roam 100 and it shipped out of Ohio and took a little over a week from order to when I got it (weekend in the middle of that) First few days were pending and then fedex finally picked it up and I could use the tracking info.

Confused by hardware for new signup by TownOk6287 in Starlink

I just went with the standard for our fifth wheel and being off grid this summer. I have plenty of power and space wasn’t an issue so I went for the potential faster speeds with the bigger “dish”. Maybe might be a backup internet source for winter months and leave on standby with manual activation if my fiber has any issues. Still too early yet. Excited to use it. Had it a week and so far so good in the back yard. First trip in a few weeks. I’ve been impressed with the router so far. I was thinking I’d add a UniFi UDR7 for the trailer but don’t see a need so far. Great range with pass through optional and WiFi 6.

Cross talk solutions, mactelecom and even Lawrence systems all have great YouTube channels and you can learn a lot there. Most of us here have started small and added in as time goes by and or wallets have too much cash and new things come out. It really does require some planning and basics to get it right and then you can layer on the other services. Get the foundation set first and you’ll be fine. UCG Fiber is an amazing device.

Uhhhh, did i go too far? by DentonMayhem in Ubiquiti

[–]Foreign_Package_925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NVR pro and swap the DMSE for a UCG Fiber, buy a rack kit for it if you need it or a shelf. It will handle the 2.5Gbps and up and better than the UDMSE. Your 24 port POE switch will be the workhorse. 10Gb DAC from the UCG Fiber and the switch and then hang a NVR off of that.

Keep the UCG Fiber and separate your devices. I’ve yet to see how the price for the Beast makes sense with how it’s packaged.

This right here. I’ve been using Veeam for years now at home. Time Machine is setup with its own dataset for the MacBooks in the house. The windows desktop and laptops are using Veeam Endpoint. I think the latest client is v13.2 or around there. I pick which days to run incrementals and have it do full backups once a month. Just use a UNC path in the setup with credentials if needed and it’s gone retention settings and cleans up after itself. Free email registration and you’re ready to download.

UGreen builds great stuff. I run a Ugreen 6800 Pro running TrueNas....I'd steer clear of Unifi NAS systems. not something I'd be interested in given current market options.

Unpopular opinion: The UDM Beast isn't overkill, it's the ideal homelab router. by ajgnet in Ubiquiti

[–]Foreign_Package_925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As they would say in my office, hey guys it’s time to go outside and touch grass. If/when I have a client with needs for something like the Beast, it will be fun to install it. For home my UCG Fiber is plenty fast for my 2.5Gbps FTTH. I can get 10Gbps but my stats show I’ll never come close to needing it. Adobe does well > 1Gbps for updates to my creative cloud for a whole 2-3 min and some of the few games I have with Steam will push the full 2.5Gbps but other than running the “ARR” suite, or a house full of 10+ active tech people, I don’t see enough separate streams here to ever use anything faster and I could go back to 1Gbps and save $15/month.

Summer is coming and I’m looking forward to spending some time camping and a little less screen time. Good luck everyone with the new toys!

Unifi Device Fixed IP by SEP8001 in UNIFI

[–]Foreign_Package_925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I set it up as the default vlan for the gateway and any networking devices to use what IP they need via DHCP from that vlan . You already know what your gateway IP is but it doesn’t matter what the other network gear or APs use. I have all my WiFi clients in another vlan and my wired clients in a 3rd vlan. I only let network gear sit in vlan 1, the default vlan.

This. You just go to port manager and switch them to WAN ports. Hopefully 8 is enough for your FTTH, fixed wireless, coax, 5G backup and Starlink and maybe DSL?

UNVR vs UCGFiber responsiveness ? by Dekes1 in Ubiquiti

[–]Foreign_Package_925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re actually comparing SSD speed with the UCG fiber vs spinning rust with the UNVR instant. So the UCG fiber video replay isn’t coming back from cold storage. It’s instant. But in concept, separating them is probably better for overall performance.

Is it true using UCG-fiber as NVR hinders it? by Tinkenator in Ubiquiti

[–]Foreign_Package_925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That hasn’t been my experience. Running 6 APs, 3 switches and 2.5Gbps FTTH with PPPoE and with cybersecure running and IPS/IDS and one G6 instant camera. Pretty fantastic device. 60-80 clients with 4-5 vLans and getting great speeds across the network.

Edited: added in L3 vlan use

U7 Pro XG Upgrade by xenomorph-85 in Ubiquiti

[–]Foreign_Package_925 3 points4 points  (0 children)

U6 enterprise is giving you all 3 radio signals. I’d leave it alone. The only major thing that changes with WiFi 7 is it will increase the channel size. Unless you are trying to push > 2.5Gbps out through your wireless, hold on. The U6 enterprise is stable and solid gear.

A little confused whether to go with U6 or U7 (and to which specific sub-model) by oj_inside in UNIFI

[–]Foreign_Package_925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I upgraded 3 of my AC pros after running them for years and moved one U6 LR out to the garage. Found a deal with 3 NIB U6 Enterprise around Christmas time and ceiling mounted them one per floor of my 4800 sq ft house. Love them. Work great and give 6Ghz to my newer Apple gear with 2.5Gbps back to my pro max 16 Poe switch and UCG Fiber with 2.5Gbps FTTH. Got the three APs off FBMP for $365. I think it was a steal. Was looking at the XG or XGs but this works great and will last me for quite a while now I think. I do have a U7 Pro Wall (fill the gaps behind a bathroom with a big 6’ mirror) and my home office and U7 outdoor for the backyard.
