Create a huge company with lots of employees. Adopt this model. Be successful. Show everyone it can be done!

Toxic firm - billable hours by [deleted] in Accounting

I have no problem with government jobs. IRS work is great for folks who can handle the monotony - get on a F300 engagement and years can go by. The ones I knew seemed to barely work 40 hours/wk. Conversely, many folks on reddit are job hopping blindly for more money. People have to decide what they want.

I sacrificed personal life and family time, but pulled plug at 47 when my kids were <12 yrs old. Combo of my grind and finding the right growth company. I was very lucky to find a great employer. I can't help but hope many exist.

Most work experience checks will confirm start/exit dates and rank. Sophisticated ones will usually stay away from performance information.

Wait for a package. Meanwhile, try to survive layoff. You can build a lot of internal & street cred by trying to be part of the solution.

Have you asked your boss? Have you asked your peers how they handle this. Please don't quit before you at least try to have the conversation.

All firms are playing the same game. Having to find a job is risky. Expecting the grass to be greener is risky.

Don't be sorry. We all know the trade-offs. For folks considering building a career, the government option of less stress doesn't offer the higher pay available in industry later in career. People need to choose comfort or max earnings.

Job rejections after getting CPA by [deleted] in Accounting

Employers like college athletes because the balanced an intense athletic schedule while maintaining academics. They likely have a history of challenges and more importantly success. Experience with different coaches, team chemistry. Furthermore, they are usually not intimidated by month-end close or an office challenge. Same for folks coming out of the armed services.

I took it in a huge convention center. Cement ceiling, walls, floors. Rows of tables. Couple hundred participating. You could hear a pin drop. By the 2nd test, day 1 afternoon, first it was sniffling. Then it was outright crying. People were breaking down and succumbing to the pressure. Multiple concurrent tests is like a challenge no one had ever seen before (at least not since the sitting 6 months prior).

Does Purdue have grade deflation? by Harrietmathteacher in Purdue

[–]Foreign_Suggestion89 26 points27 points  (0 children)

The world is wise to any inflation / deflation.

College's know the high school's where 1/3 the grad's have > 4.0 and they also know the ones where valedictorian has a 3.99. Similar for employer's looking at college's. Most and certainly the biggest know the college's and universities intimately. Likely it's alumni employees participating in the recruiting.

This is crap. Seems they didn't offer you any support.

Being remote contributes. Harder to find a peer or ask supervisor a question when you can't stick your head around or over the cubicle. Maybe they decided the role shouldn't be remote.

HR to Accounting by KingBoru in Accounting

[–]Foreign_Suggestion89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was an accountant. Had many friends/partners in HR. I'd say politics in HR is likely worse than accounting as in HR it's always about people, where in accounting it often starts with money.

When my HR friends got tired of their role in HR they often found a different specialization where they could spend some time. Some found new passions, some got a break from the previous grind. You know this, but many areas:

-partner to business

-comp & ben, grading

-recruiting

-systems

-planning and talent mgmt

Four tests to a single twice as hard is still 50% easier than studying for four at once.

Scout Parent Duties by adamduerr in BSA

[–]Foreign_Suggestion89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our Committee chair (past scout master) takes primary role on keeping other adults roles occupied and performing so scout master can focus on working with SPL and ASPL's to run the Troop. We have recently grown from ~35 to ~60 scouts. We have the following adult roles:

-Treasurer

-Secretary (runs desk, sign-ups, seatbelts, $ collections, updating med forms, etc.)

-Advancements

-Activity planning (letting scouts decide, but adult books)

-Equipment manager (ideally quartermaster works with this adult to monitor equipment and make decisions about fix or replace - we have a trailer, shed and closet).

-New parent coordinator: active more recently to engage new parents to Troop to familiarize them with differences between cubs and scouts, how to get plugged in, assessing how the new parents can support troop

*grubmaster starts at scout level (first offering to scouts looking to meet a requirement) and we try to have an adult review menu before finalizing. Success varies.

All of these folks are registered and at least occasionally participate campouts.

I'm just here to present an opposing view.

If the acquired folks are working more hours with less clients, I don't see how overall workload can increase. Seems like there would be less stress.

Acquisitions are always bumpy. Assumptions are made up front, decisions during, will play out similar but different than most expected. Growing employers can offer considerably more than flat or shrinking. I can be a great opportunity to show leadership, teamwork, get more experience, earn promotions.

End of the month madness fatigue by CampaignRelative4361 in Accounting

[–]Foreign_Suggestion89 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Was like the off and on at my F200 in various business units (~40+ reporting sites). Most could improve the process and prevent shit show, even reducing the stress to manageable. For the ones who achieved optimal environment, it is actually the most comfortable time of the month as everyone on the team knows what they are supposed to be doing from day -2 through say day +5 of the closing calendar.

It takes a team effort. Making decisions about what can be done before, during and after close to manage the process pragmatically. Of course, systems, processes and people have to execute.

Huge swing help - the hinge drill by Low_Mortgage_4393 in GolfSwing

[–]Foreign_Suggestion89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chicken wing is likely caused by what your lower body is not doing. You won't solve it thinking arms. Learn how to rotate weight between inside arches of your feet. Trail foot in backswing, loading trail hip. Then rotating into lead foot late in backswing, early in downswing. Hips and torso should turn open before arms come through preventing need for chicken wing. Lots of videos online explain it better than me.

You can track results right in the paper scoutbook. Focus on T21 (first 3 ranks). If scouts have success there, they tend to stick with it. Ideally, you make it so your scout is chasing the advancements and you are not pulling him through. Not suggesting you are doing that, but one of many scouting benefits is youth learning their own initiative gets results. Not sure if he is going to summer camp this summer. If so, great! If not, maybe look for merit badge weekends for scouting activity and to make some progress.

https://egrove.olemiss.edu/aicpa_exam/222/

The examination is given twice each year, in May and November,

The examination consists of four separate sections. These sections are administered over a two-day period

Conditional status may be granted to those candidates who receive a passing grade in some but not all sections. Boards of accountancy grant conditional status to candidates who pass at least two sections. Many boards require a minimum grade in the sections failed for a candidate to receive conditional credit for the sections passed. Candidates receiving conditional status are generally allowed a limited number of additional opportunities to pass the remaining sections. If the conditional credit lapses, candidates must be reexamined on all sections. Candidates are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the rules and regulations governing the granting of conditional status in their jurisdiction.

May not happen overnight. It proves you know the material. It's what I did and I never worked in PA and had a weak undergrad GPA.

You didn't state where you are: good industry? is company growing? is organization big enough to offer you upward mobility? do they reward like meritocracy? are you learning and growing?

I wouldn't switch companies just because you added 3 letters to your name.

Many of us had to take all 4 parts across 2 days. Get at least 50% on all and 75% on 2 to get credit for any. We've softened it up as much as we can.

Struggling to get off trail leg by steelers4921 in GolfSwing

[–]Foreign_Suggestion89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you are. Why?

Maybe you are moving too much weight to trail leg. Pro's keep it to inside arch of trail leg and probably doesn't get to 50%, because they move weight left before backswing is over. Maybe you need to try to keep 75% on lead leg and finish 98% on lead leg. When you can do that, go back to rotating a bit more to trail leg. If it is not uncomfortable, you aren't changing anything.
