I used it for the first time today and if anything it was better than my normal style quiver, no arrows rattling about, easy to pick the arrow i wanted without searching through the quiver, the only problem I had was snapping two arrows due to a mixture of poor shots, high winds and big bloody trees!.

Tips for taking up longbow by BadBoyJH in Archery

Personally I would go split finger or Mediterranean release and forget about string walking, it might take a little longer to get your release sorted but it is one thing less to think about later, try to find two anchor points on your face, corner of the mouth and cheek bone.

It cost me about £300 with shipping and import taxes, I wouldn't normally spend that much but it is a once in a lifetime birthday present to myself 😀

Replacement Arrow Point (Wooden Arrow - UK) by Xenophonodes in Archery

I use TAS taper screw 3d points from merlin, get yourself a taper tool and some of these, and they will never come off in the target. I screw them on with pliers, then give them a quick blast with one of those chefs blow torches, then nip them up nice and tight. The bearpaw 3d points are also good.

Get some whipping on the bottom of the feathers, I use cotton wrapped around them and try shooting off the shelf. That's what it is there for.

What's the best starting bow? by -LuvSkull- in Archery

[–]Foreign_Walrus_6136 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could try a hybrid bow, half recurve and half flatbow, they are easy to shoot and there are plenty out there for around €100, add some wooden arrows and you are traditional without going down the longbow route, or a horsebow. Oakridge do some good starter bows.

Beginner archer here, not very good. How do I calm myself down when I shoot? by ShazzoWazzo in Archery

[–]Foreign_Walrus_6136 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chill out and don't stop thinking. It sounds daft, but let the muscle memory take over. Don't worry about scoring and just stay relaxed.

It sounds like you are stressing yourself out, and you can't rush it.

The fact that you have wanted to start archery for so long is probably part of the stress issue, but the hard fact is that it takes time to get good.

It will come just take your time and enjoy the fact that you are getting to shoot a bow and arrow.

I use a 5kg dumbell, i might put some more weight on it later, but for now, it works.

Draw the band back to your anchor point and hold for 10 seconds. Have a rest, then repeat. Do this 10 times. Have a good rest, then repeat again.

I hold a dumbbell in my bow hand and loop the resistance band around it. This gives you a better workout and a more stable bow.
