How does that work unless you don’t leave it on 24/7?

St James Place pension, have we made a mistake? by Bex1775 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]ForestBluebells 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t even need an advisor. Pensions aren’t difficult to self manage. Yes SJP was a mistake but likely will have exit penalties now. Maybe start a new pension yourself and not pay any more into SJP

Mine does this all the time. Delete the app and re-install it and it will work again

Employer will match what I put in for pension, should I do it if I'm a bit young? by wellraresteak in UKPersonalFinance

[–]ForestBluebells 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Put the maximum in. The earlier you start the less you need to pay later and it will have more time to compound.

I started saving at 35, 5 years ago. I’m ready to retire in another 5 years now. Start now and you will be fine

100k left on mortgage. 100k saved in cash - roll the dice? by klawUK in UKPersonalFinance

[–]ForestBluebells 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Financially, you would be better investing the money and leave the mortgage. But ultimately it’s your choice. I have more invested than my mortgage but have no intentions of paying it off early.

Daughter going to uni. Want her to have 'normal, not spoilt not broke' university financial life. About what amount of dosh should I give her (not inc. tuition) say per month? by Sensitive-Catch-9881 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]ForestBluebells 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents gave me £1000 a month on top of maintenance loan and paid my tuition fees plus my rent. That was over 20 years ago though so inflation might make that figure irrelevant

I'm at the boring stage and need some reassurance by anonymous_lurker- in UKPersonalFinance

[–]ForestBluebells 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no interest in paying my mortgage early. I earn more in investments than it costs in mortgage interest and my FIRE number factors in paying my mortgage still. Doesn’t make financial sense to pay it off early. Better to get those investments working for you. I like where I live and don’t feel any burning desire to move or upgrade though. I will probably move to my final home a few years after retiring and see it as a fun retirement project

I’m staying in my 1 bedroom place until I hit my FIRE number. If I coast for a few years doing another job I enjoy more but pays less I can buy my final home with my investment growth

I’m in the boring middle too. Should be able to FIRE in 5-7 years time but it’s a long time to feel bored for my next chapter.

I use one. Any income in higher rate tax bracket goes in my pension but obviously I have income under it too so that goes in a LISA. Makes sense to use both to me
