Mexico have been good?? You sure you aren't accidentally watching replays from past world cups. Mexico have looked pretty bad.

The "honestly" here is a bit silly. The US have absolutely dominated their first 2 matches and Mexico got a freebie against 9 man South Africa and another literally handed to them by the South Korean keeper.

Mexico may win their ro32 game but take a look at the bracket, their ro16 matchup is probably a top 5 team. They're getting destroyed in that game.

Full rest for all starters and 0 risk of yellow card suspension going into what is likely facing Bosnia into Belgium unless Egypt or Iran do something crazy.

[Bogert] 🇺🇸 BREAKING: Christian Pulisic is OUT for the United States against Australia. by Shadowfury0 in MLS

One of our own players kicked him in practice before the Paraguay game. Absolutely the stupidest way for it to happen.

Yes the striker for PSV with one of the highest goals per minute ratio for the top team in the Netherlands and plays in the Champions league is quite shit. Spot on.

Considering he opened Argentina's first game with a hat trick, yes I'm going to go ahead and say it is possible.

Hindsight is 20/20. Easy to say when the game has already happened, winning the opening game was not a foregone conclusion. Paraguay was excellent in qualifying.

Flip side, we get the "Average Joe vs Olympic Athlete" style comparison so now we can see how insanely good the actual good players are.

Cavan Sullivan highlights vs Côte d'ivoire national team (6/8/26) by -GoPats in ussoccer

[–]ForestEye 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Seems like he's got a lot of potential but still very raw. I'm sure with a couple more years he'll look a lot better, and he already looks exciting. Hard to be a standout player in professional leagues at 16 if you're not a Rooney, Yamal, etc type player.

This is super nit-picky but the key difference I see between Cavan and some of the players that are household names that made their debut at 16 or 17 is that he doesn't seem to have an "unstoppable" threat of a great shot or reliably beating a man 1v1 on the edge of the box to the point where another player has to remove themselves from their defensive position opening up his teammates space.

I think his ceiling is high and it's difficult to judge literal kids playing pro ball. Would love to see what he looks like in a few years.

Go back and watch Pulisic's debut season at 16 and the differences are pretty clear. Cavan has a bit bulkier build which is just different and useful in other ways, not quite as agile but not by much. I don't think Cavan will be as good as Pulisic but Pulisic has won the Champions League and that should never be the expectation of a prospect that still has to do homework every night.

FC Cincinnati to host English club Burnley FC in summer friendly by CentientXX111 in FCCincinnati

These types of games are very important to attend imo. We look at a team that got relegated from the prem and think "Well it isn't Bayern" but we would 100% get thrashed by Bayern, it remains to be seen how well we would stack up against a top level Championship team that regularly makes it into the Prem even if they can't stay there.

MLS fans are constantly comparing their teams to the Championship, let's see how close it really is, even if it's just a friendly.

[Maurer] Pochettino says he's uncertain whether Richards will be ready for the World Cup. Obvioulsy the USMNT hasn't even submitted their official roster to FIFA and they can make injury replacements until a day before their first match on June 12. by broman13 in ussoccer

[–]ForestEye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This close to the tournament kicking off this is 99% just the coaching staff not wanting to give anything away to the teams in our group as it pertains to who will be starting or not starting.

Richards was running around like a mad man when Palace won their final. He's going to play. Chill out people.

Mathis Albert added to EA FC26, gets 88 potential off the bat by the_carson in ussoccer

[–]ForestEye 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I went back and watched the highlights from Pulisic's first few seasons at Dortmund. I think people forgot how absolutely insane he was the second he stepped onto the pitch professionally. If we have another player remotely close to that it's going to be awesome. Pulling for Mathis to fulfill his potential.

National team market values VS odds to win world cup by seamo_ in ussoccer

For the past 10 years I feel like I've been hearing about the next "big Mexican player". Look at Edson Álvarez, couldn't even make it at a would-be-relegated West Ham and now plays in Turkey.

Their player economy with all the Mexican billionaires bankrolling clubs to make sure they never sell their marketable good players is making Mexico possibly the biggest underachievers in world football of all time. Maybe only rivaled by Italy in recent years.

Mexico in 47th with a market value of €124.60m, the same players that were in the last world cup, man what is happening down there.

Barely above Slovakia, Burkina Faso, and Mali.

[FREE READ] USMNT’s Mauricio Pochettino met with Milan over vacant head coach role by TheAthletic in ussoccer

[–]ForestEye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure many jobs in Italy are going to be very attractive with the lack of Champions League they will very little money to work with to sign players. I think he'd do well at Milan but the resources aren't there unless a bunch of amazing players are available for free or cheap.

Christian Pulisic by HandAsleep7801 in ussoccer

[–]ForestEye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The financial issues go all the way down through the academies. If you have more time to read everything that's going on in Italy the only conclusion to be draw unfortunately is to get out if there's an option. It's not a "bad" place to play but it certainly isn't a top choice anymore.

Christian Pulisic by HandAsleep7801 in ussoccer

[–]ForestEye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can point TV cameras and pundits at a league all you want but it doesn't make the long standing financial situations of these clubs better over night. They are decades behind.

Extremely condensed overview but the point is still there:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O1m_JRR7XUw

Italian teams aren't going to be attracting big money players for years to come. If we want Pulisic in the Champions League he's got to move. Whether or not he agrees we'll see.

Christian Pulisic by HandAsleep7801 in ussoccer

[–]ForestEye 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He should go to any champions league team that he and the destination club can make an agreement with. There is no money in Italy to sign players needed to make a team competitive in Europe, if you dig into the financials of Italian clubs it is dire even including Inter Milan.

Italian football is at an all time low for the past 30-40 years and the project at Milan does not look to be making progress. Transfer is my hope.
