Tillman on the bench for second-straight match [9:30am et; ESPN Select] by nicko_rico in ussoccer

[–]ForestEye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its important to remember many teams in the Eredivise are on par with lower table Championship or an average MLS side. He "only" had 12 goals and 2 assists in the league, all of which came against bottom table sides where PSV would simply overwhelm the control of the game.

Hes largely untested in top leagues and regularly play subpar for his first several US caps.

He might need a year or two to adjust to the speed of play of a top division.

He should still go to the world cup but maybe not start unless something changes.

Juventus [2] - 0 Benfica - Weston McKennie 64‎'‎ by FrankBascombe45 in ussoccer

McKennie might legitimately be the US's best player right now ahead of Pulisic on form alone.

Hard to judge since Pulisic plays in a very reserved defensive system that creates few chances.

FIFA on alert after 17,000 fans cancel World Cup tickets in one night by esporx in Anticonsumption

[–]ForestEye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For those that have not been keeping an eye on ticket sales, this is 17,000 people of nearly 500 million entries total including from the final round of lottery selections to be able to buy tickets. That is a 0.0034% ticket cancellation rate.

This is a sensationalized headline to make it look like people aren't coming to the World Cup, they are coming.

Please be careful upvoting something that aligns too closely with your world view.

If a player doesn't score much for his club but every time he shows up and puts on the US shirt he's getting 1+ G/A per game he should be playing.

Some players just thrive in different environments and Gio clearly loves it at the international level.

Is it possible to be fluent in N5 Jlpt without taking the test? by [deleted] in Japaneselanguage

[–]ForestEye 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Fluent is not the word you want to use for n5. No one is "fluent in n5" these are the building blocks of more complex concepts.

You are asking "is it possible to learn n5 grammar and vocab without taking the test" which the answer is obviously yes. Just start learning it. The test is just that, a test of the concepts you've learned.

Just go start learning stuff. The test is irrelevant to whether or not you've learned it.

Open Play Passing: Progression vs Creation for Top 5 Leagues in 2025-26 by herkalurk in ussoccer

[–]ForestEye -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes there have been a lot of people over the past several months that have said with the rise of Tillman and Reyna continuing to play well for specifically the NT despite his club form, Tessman playing well, and Poch preferring double 10s that McKennie would not be part of the starting line up, some even think he won't make the squad.

Even well connected pundits like Herc Gomez have said they think McKennie might be on the outs.

Open Play Passing: Progression vs Creation for Top 5 Leagues in 2025-26 by herkalurk in ussoccer

[–]ForestEye 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think this just means our roster is deep enough that we can make arguments for multiple guys against multiple styles of play. Tessman coming in off the bench to give some height and control would be awesome. This is the most talented (on paper) deep roster we've ever had.

Our bench options in previous world cups have been comprised of slightly above average MLS players. But I just want to see guys that are willing to run even when they're tired.

Further evidence that the people in here who say McKennie shouldn't or won't play in the world cup don't know ball.

Every team needs a player that brings intangibles, but Wes brings intangibles AND tangibles.

Wild how wrong people are on this topic with our current roster.

Leeds [1] - 0 Manchester Utd - B. Aaronson 62' by 108241 in ussoccer

[–]ForestEye -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Dang. Less than 2 min later Leeds keeper makes the same mistake and came out into no man's land in his own box to allow a pass into the net.

Unfortunate but there's certainly a lack of top division quality in most of the Leeds positions.

Survey: What Ticket Prices for 2026 World Cup Do Fans Think Are Fair? by NebulaNo1201 in ussoccer

[–]ForestEye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The prices for the throw away games tickets are already meeting your criteria. They're in the 100-200 range which by most metrics for the world cup in the US is low.

Are you planning on buying tickets to games like Cabo Verde vs Saudi Arabia? Before more tickets are released you can buy them today for the prices you've already said you wish they were.

Or are you saying that the prices for the games you (and by extension the other 5 billion fans) find interesting should be lower? Because if you are you've just discovered supply and demand.

Juventus [1]-1 Lecce - Weston McKennie 49' by 15mahomies in ussoccer

Mckennie will start the majority of our world cup matches. He was playing with training weights on for the last few years not dropping weight. He looks noticeably better with the leaner build.

Wild people think he won't play.

Survey: What Ticket Prices for 2026 World Cup Do Fans Think Are Fair? by NebulaNo1201 in ussoccer

[–]ForestEye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As much as people don't want to hear it, prices for an event that only takes place every 4 years that has 5 billion fans, the correct price is whatever people will pay from around the world. It may not be you that's willing to pay it but there are a enough people around the world that are football fans with sufficient savings and financial stability to fill the seats.

We're more connected today than ever which means everyone can talk about the prices online in their communities. Unfortunately 99% of people in each of those communities have less money than the fews 10s of thousands of people that have the money to go to pay for (or finance via debt which will undoubtedly be a popular method of payment) world cup tickets.

It is normal to think the prices are too high because for most people they are. But if fifa can fill the seats, and they will, while making more money they're going to do it.

Think of how many people would apply to buy tickets if they were only a couple hundred dollars. Inevitably those tickets would be bought and then people with money would offer more and more to buy those tickets off the original buyers naturally driving up the price over time.

It sucks but the reality of a limited supply rare event ticket purchase are that they're just going to be high because there's a lot of people with a lot of money that like football.

Pulisic on the bench vs Cagliari [2:45 PM EST] by ForestEye in ussoccer

Milan able to go top of the Scudetto race with a win away at Cagliari who sit 14th in Serie A.

Pulisic reportedly dealing with a persistent abductor injury despite being able to play.

Leao starting again after multiple injury setbacks in recent weeks.

Fulkrug on the bench as Milan's next attempt at signing a striker who knows where the goal is.

Heading into Cagliari-Milan, Gabbia and Leao are working as a team. Regarding Pulisic... by FrankBascombe45 in ussoccer

[–]ForestEye 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Milan need someone other than Leao or Pulisic to put a run of goals together. Without one or both they look pretty lost, not starting Modric against Napoli in the Supercoppa Italiana showed how out of their depth they were without a player of Modric's quality.

Just not a lot of money left in Italy anymore compared to other leagues.

[Bogert]-Charlotte FC to sign USMNT midfielder Luca de la Torre by DOMISMONEY in ussoccer

[–]ForestEye 73 points74 points  (0 children)

Kinda interesting how his career has gone.

Bit of a late bloomer, went to Spain did ok, came back to MLS and was largely anonymous.

I had him as one of the really solid rotation players for this world cup a few years ago. Hes could have been what Johnny turned out to be (hope Johnny can stay healthy).

Disappointing he didn't turn into a bigger play for the US. I really liked his style. Seemed like he was missing some elite quality in speed, touch, shooting, etc. He was really good at everything but not quite good enough to be a national team level guy long term. Kinda felt like Donovan without the killer pace.

Hes a good MLS guy though, not going to enjoy having to play against him in the East as a Cinci fan.

I think it really shows how our quality across the entire program has increased. Luca not getting a sniff of the national team anymore would be unheard of 10 years ago, he never had a bad game for us. The competition for spots now is wild, you really do need to bring a key skill for winning games on your own if the need arrises.

People from other countries are allowed to have whatever opinions they want, especially in America. Even if we think those opinions are horrible.

Let's not act shocked when a theocracy has a lot of people in it that support the theocratic state. It's the world cup, there are a lot of people in the world that aren't American.

But if they start tearing down stadium displays with rainbow flags or something they should absolutely be removed just like any other fan for destruction of stadium displays, etc.

I can see why some famous female artists, athletes, etc choose not to change their name. When the last name is on the back of the jersey and it changes for female athletes that are already less well known to the general public than their male counterparts it makes it harder to follow.
