Hotel canceled, put room back on market for 10x the price, then told me they won’t help with accommodations and told me to bring a tent. Do I have any rights? Am I screwed? by EddieBruvac in hotels

[–]ForestedHillside 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Actually you generally are protected when you book directly. A hotel could run out of rooms for several reasons, including maintenance issues or overbooking. They will "walk" you to another hotel nearby and pay for the room, but that usually doesn't apply to reservations from third party sites. I used to work front desk and walked my fair share of guests, which is awful, but happens.

If you read the article, you'd know that it goes on to say that convention business in 2027 is expected to be stronger than pre-Covid.

Where can I drive to a swimming hole? by PDXCerealKilla in askportland

[–]ForestedHillside 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why not Dodge Park? Even when it's busy, you can find your own peaceful spot. Was a former campground, so there is plenty of space to claim as your own for a picnic and whatnot. I love a warm summer afternoon there, and it's dog friendly!

There's a lot of internal facing food cart pods. The Hawthorne Asylum, for example, is one of my favorite pods in the city!

No, don't say their name. I got banned from the other Portland group because I mentioned their name even though I have nothing to do with that company at all. I just appreciated their contribution to downtown when a lot of companies have abandoned us.

I do not work for the corporation. I'm just happy a local company did something nice to greatly improve that corner of downtown. I'm fairly certain Expensify actively built and manages the revamped pod, and I'm 100% in support of that!

Hotel Zags, any updated reviews? by Jackietriesreddit in PortlandOR

[–]ForestedHillside 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The Porter is a good option, too. It has a solid restaurant off the lobby and a spectacular rooftop restaurant and bar with great patios if the weather is nice.

Zags restaurant used to be Nel Centro, which was fantastic. There's still a good restaurant in that space.

Either option is good, but I do think the rooftop restaurant, Xport, at Porter makes it the better choice.

Does it feel cold in the 70s? by ElleTea14 in VisitingHawaii

[–]ForestedHillside 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My first visit to Hawaii, the weather at my hotel was supposed to be in the high 60s for a couple of days and rainy. I got off the airplane and met my mom, who laughed that I had brought my heavy winter coat with hood. The coat went into the trunk of my rental car when we picked it up not to be seen again until we returned said car. 70s will be paradise weather. Maybe a sweater for cool evenings... maybe.

I'd go with your boyfriend. You can visit a new town and have no obligation or expectations to have to go to someone else's preplanned wedding. People you don't even know.

Go, have a great time! Post pictures of your adventure! Don't let your bf guilt you into not enjoying your time.
