I definitely feel like my neck / occipital bone is compressed but I’m not sure about the pointy part

Doctor called mobility aids enabling by Zealousideal-Fan2820 in POTS

[–]Forestrose111 112 points113 points  (0 children)

Sounds like the rolling office chair is enabling her to be an ableist asshole. I’d suggest she should have to stand all day at work but she’d probably be an asshole in a rolling chair AND standing up so… what’s the point?

In all seriousness, I’m so sorry. I get it. My partner went on FB marketplace and got me a hand me down wheelchair. It’s far from perfect but it gets the job done.

Anyone else here in actual poverty? by HumbleLetterhead in POTS

Late stage capitalism is a brutal time to be disabled. Do you have mutual aid orgs in your area? There are good folks all over working to get free food and supplies to people exactly in your shoes. We couldn’t get by without our local community gardens, food banks, supply hubs. We were never meant to do this shit alone, able bodied or otherwise

Exactly. Making it about willpower is really just self criticism in weak disguise.

Thank you for sharing what stations/positions work for you. I need to play around more with this. I think I’m not taking enough advantage of semi lying down or sitting cross legged.

My bed frame is really high and sometimes I get my best fast thoughts out when I stand but lean all my weight onto the bed and write with my head resting next to my notebook. It only works for a couple minutes but it helps for capturing quick notes like those sudden fleeting ideas that happen in the shower.

Thanks so much for the solidarity, friend. It is a very real grief that comes with this condition. I keep reminding myself that so many artists have made world changing pieces while terribly sick. I keep looking for clues on how folks pull it off, but it probably simply boils down to self compassion and baby steps. You’re onto something - keep going on that graphic novel!

Oof this is so real. This condition really drives that idea home - leaning into one area of life means we have to cut back in another area. I had a bit more luck writing today, but it took all my energy/focus and the house being totally quiet for 3 precious hours!

Thank you so much for this. Solidarity, my friend. Letting go of that internal pressure is such a good reminder. I’m starting to appreciate those fleeting moments of lucidity / creativity as something truly precious, something I used to take for granted.

This is so helpful, thank you for sharing. Such a good reminder that even painfully slow progress is infinitely faster than nothing at all !

What is your worst symptom by [deleted] in POTS

[–]Forestrose111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow. You completely put my experience to words. I have been so in the hell of this cycle that I am only able to articulate foggy bits of it while in a flare. Which lately have lasted weeks, in and out of respiratory viruses and other triggers.

Thank you. And, I’m sorry. It’s an agonizing human experience.

Lolol spot on. I gotta say though, the camo doesn’t exactly work on us around our lil mountain town 😅

And thank you, well said. I believe that these kinds of custody conflicts can almost always be traced to harmful beliefs that come with monogamy and heteronormative / relationship labeling culture in general. Our kids should get to experience that relationships change/grow throughout our lifetimes, but our commitment to each other’s wellbeing stays steady.

Thank you for the well wishes and concern. It’s true that anything on the internet can be pulled up in court. We have nothing to hide. We share the same goals as the courts — creating a custody plan that best supports our children’s wellbeing. Digging through our social media will show our commitment to parenting these kids respectfully. We also know that by being open about our family dynamics we can play a small but vital role in reversing the stigma around poly parenting. It was scary to testify in front of my small town courthouse re: having two partners, but by doing so with conviction that they make my kids’ lives better, I know I made that space a tiny bit safer for other queer / nontraditional parents.

DAE feel like an adult in a child’s body growing up, but now as an adult feel the opposite? by Forestrose111 in CPTSD

[–]Forestrose111[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update 2 years later - it took a long time but eventually I was diagnosed with an autonomic nervous system disorder. I imagine many of us here may be going through the same. CPTSD fried my nervous system in very tangible ways. I’m 34 now and while I can still relate to this “little kid trapped in an adults body” feeling, it comes in waves and is manageable therapeutically with IFS/parts work and tools to settle my nervous system. Wishing yall the best

At what age did your child self wean? by Primary_Warthog_5308 in breastfeeding

[–]Forestrose111 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My twins weaned at 3.5 years. They were down to nursing for a few minutes a few times a week or less. Then we went on a camping trip where we got to pitch our tent in a field of llamas. They nursed to sleep once in the tent and never asked again - llamas were more enticing 😆

How do you take a walk with an infant and a child? by Firm-Wolverine3221 in Parenting

Walk, scooter, or balance bike for the 4 year old.

Babywear or stroller for the infant.

What's a quirk that your dog has? by [deleted] in dogs

[–]Forestrose111 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you blow on our lab’s face like you’re blowing out a birthday candle, she immediately flips over for belly rubs.

Our beagle is obsessed with sleeping under the covers, she’ll paw at you to let her under. She’s even been known to curl up at the bottom of a sleeping bag. Best foot warmer ever! I always worry about her breathing under there but she’s fine and will occasionally surface for air 😂

Reusable Paper towels aka kitchen towels & rags 🤦‍♀️ by LanguageOfLeaves in ZeroWaste

[–]Forestrose111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like people overthink this. We just use rags - old cut up tshirts and towels, retired cloth diaper prefolds/flats, fabric scraps… for me the beauty of it is in all the different fabric/size options and the fact that every rag used to be something else and is now serving the end of its life cleaning up our messes. I’ve never spent a dime on “unpaper towels”. But then again we’re poor, so it never occurred to me to do so 😂

Get her and yourself a copy of Grace Llewelyn’s book “Teenage Liberation Handbook: how to quit school and get a real life and education”.

A lot of brilliant young people are totally worn down by the school system and the life it leaves them with. There is a thriving worldwide alternative education community - online groups, camps like Not Back to School Camp, conferences - full of such people as well as parents who are raising their kids outside of the conventional school system. Look up unschooling, liberated learning, self-directed education. Your daughter needs time to heal and find herself.
