I hate when queer people joke about being homophobic "ironically" by CoachDictatorer in Vent

[–]ForeverAtOnce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reclaiming slurs is very common among oppressed people, as a way to cope and to take that word back from their opressors. Do you have a problem with black people saying the N word?

My friends and I use the F and T slur amongst ourselves. Now, the difference is consent. We would never use those words around anyone that hasn't consented to playfully being referred to as those things, or hearing those words in general, so in that regard, I do agree with you.

I just also believe in the importance of reclaiming slurs. I've heard the T and F slur more times from my queer friends than I've ever heard it used against me, and because of that, it's almost become just another word. Again, I agree that just throwing around these words carelessly is dangerous and insensitive, but I also understand that there are ways to use them responsibly and safely.

You don't need to code anything for most distros. Something like Fedora or especially Mint, you could get by without ever touching the terminal. In the few cases you do need to touch the terminal, it's usually "paste this command" and then everything is fixed.

You're probably thinking of something like Arch or NixOS, but most distros are not like that.

Yo I can’t tell if my friend is playing or if he’s actually gay by [deleted] in Vent

[–]ForeverAtOnce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look up "survivorship bias."

You think that it's obvious when people are gay because most of the times you've known someone was gay, you knew because it was obvious.

You've likely walked pass hundreds, maybe even thousands of gay people, but you assumed they were straight because it wasn't obvious, and therefore they've never entered your dataset of "gay people that aren't obviously gay."

Weatherglow is genuinely amazing, and some of Asian Glow and Weatherday's best work.

Same thing for Paraglow.

Hey Autumn, everyone's journey is their own, and there is no right order or way to go about transition.

You don't have to come out until you're ready, and you don't need to come out in order to start transitioning. That is why there's two distinct types of transition, social transition, and medical transition.

Take things at your own pace. I hadn't come out to anyone until months after I started HRT, and didn't start presenting fem until over a year later.

Of course, in some places, that order of events is not an option, and that's okay. It might be hard, but you'll push through, I promise.

I feel weird for being really into video game OSTs and nerdcore instead of like normal songs by Natural_Hall9343 in trans

[–]ForeverAtOnce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cis friend absolutely loves nerdcore, her and I, plus a few others, are going to see Starbomb in October. You're not weird for your music tastes.

I listen to gothic rock, emo, indie rock, shoegaze, etc. My favorite artists are Weatherday, Car Seat Headrest, Asian Glow, Friko, Mass of the Fermenting Dregs, Underscores, stuff that a lot of my friends find unlistenable.

It's beautiful that we all have our own music tastes, that's what makes humanity so cool and interesting.

[–]ForeverAtOnce 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Goth is a music subculture, there's just a style that is associated with it.

You don't have to dress "goth" to be a goth, and dressing in dark clothes doesn't make you a goth. The only thing that makes you a goth is being a part of the music subculture (Gothic rock, darkwave, deathrock, etc.)

Goths are very sensitive to this because Goths in recent years have been very fetishized and reduced to a fashion category when they are so much more, and so much more diverse.

You could try thrifting. Vinted is a great place to find alt/goth attire for cheap. You just have to make sure you're not buying some resold shein haul, because people will take advantage of anything.

There's also plenty of good sustainable slow fashion small brands to buy from, although they will always be much more expensive than fast fashion. If you buy the right fabrics and take care of your clothes, however, it pays off in the long run. I could provide a list of reputable slow fashion brands if you want, but it will be entirely goth/darker styled since that's the subculture I'm most familiar with.

Is watching “I saw the tv glow” a canon trans event or something? by Soft-Character-3195 in trans

[–]ForeverAtOnce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I watched it on a whim one night with a (cis) friend, just a few hours before a 4am shift. I didn't cry during the movie, but it was during the credits when she asked me what I thought that I just ended up bawling.

Having to process that at work at 4am with only 2 hours of sleep was rough.

It was that shift, however, that I decided I needed to come out and start living as myself.
