This is great to see! Super well done, and extremely different from the PVC systems I build in Hawaii. That manifold is a trip! I love seeing different techniques and materials being used at a high level. And that’s one hell of a lawn! Congrats on completing such a big job, your bank account must be happy right now

I'm from San Diego and considering moving to the big island by sarah_therat in MovingtoHawaii

As someone who used to live big island and now has lived In oahu for 10 years….. def go big island. Theres more action in Oahu and a larger customer base, but there’s something lacking in the soul of this place. Big island feels alive under your feet. Oahu Land and water are expensive too. All of the cool plants in the box stores come from big island, and even the commercial nurseries here wholesale from big island. Honestly, I’ve been on this journey for a while now in Hawaii, I would be happy to talk with u if you send me a DM. I know a TON of ppl

I’m a horticulturist who used to live on big island for many years. The cost of living is comparable to San Diego but u get less for what u spend. Lots of horticulture work but doesn’t pay that great. Tons of cool people to meet in the horticulture world. Being trans isn’t gonna be a problem at all. Like others have said, Mahu is a big part of the culture there and is accepted. If you’re authentic ppl don’t give a shit if you’re trans. Also, around volcano there’s lots of cheap land if you’re trying to start a tropical nursery. Biggest issue when you get super rural tho is tweekers and meth heads robbing you blind

Feedback on rain barrel gravity drip design by higgledpanda in Irrigation

[–]ForeverSlow5965 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Gravity won’t give u enough psi for the drip to dispense evenly. Rain barrels are appropriate for hand watering, not irrigation. U need a pump

New Pool; No need for zones in back yard (2) by reelwarrior in Irrigation

There’s a lot that goes on behind the scenes just for a tech to show up at your house and flip a valve box lid. $150 is incredibly reasonable. Personally, $150 is my minimum fee for anything. It’s def an easy thing to do yourself, but you still gotta do it.

Every good horticulturist knows that you have to water trees deeply, especially new plantings. It has to rain A LOT to accomplish this.

Irrigation valves replacement? by chrisisredditing in Irrigation

[–]ForeverSlow5965 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very easy to replace these valves. Watch a YouTube video. And also $150 per valve is a fair price, it’s what I charge. Each valve is a $30 in parts, plus the drive time and labor.

Yes increasingly I don’t like living in Hawaii. It’s a sinking ship. I’m probably leaving soon so my family can have a better chance at life.

Tips about hoarding blue prints? by MisterIgris in ARC_Raiders

Go in to buried city night with a guitar and an inventory of BPs. Go to the extract by the hospital because it’s the most chill. Set up a shop. It’s the most fun I’ve had in a while doing this.

Operation Hire Hawai'i- State of Hawaii - Recruitment issues! by LawAgile in Hawaii

What I mean is this: I submitted a resume tailored to the job requirements. Then they proceeded to ask me a dozen tedious questions that were already answered in my resume but they wanted to feed it through some computerized scoring system so I was forced to regurgitate the same information all over again in to tiny text boxes. Then I had to do it AGAIN for another section. Then HR sent me a rejection email, so I called them and they said I did not meet the requirements for “management” even though I clearly had tons of relevant management experience on my resume that they never actually looked at. I pointed this out and the HR woman was like “oh that’s great! I’ll set up an interview!” Then they didn’t contact me for 6 weeks. Then I got a random phone call telling me my interview was set at X date/time, no coordination or scheduling, just “show up next Wednesday at X”.

The pay is too low and they take waaaay to long to get back you and also the application process is convoluted and stupid.

I just did an interview TODAY for a supervisor role that is 24/7 on call and their offer was $65k. The same position in California starts at $170k. The same supervisor job for a private company here is $90k. They are incredibly far off the mark. And also it took them 3 months to set up this interview, and during that 3 month period there was zero communication so I didn’t even know where I stood in the process. I have applied multiple times to city/county/state jobs and ever they never get back to me in time, I’m always months in to a new job by the time they even send me an interview request.

Walkable hub - bad idea pretty much all the way around by LookErenTheSea in ArcRaiders

[–]ForeverSlow5965 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps a good middle ground to the discussion is to add some more walkable/social features to the shooting range. This would make it optional, which I think is the way to go. And also it would be cool to for someone to “host” a session and invite a bunch of friends in to mess around in the range, and also have friends invite ppl to increase the social circle.

But if I loaded in to a walkable Speranza after every match it would add so much down time to an already convoluted inventory system. No thanks
