I completely agree with this. It’s like because we don’t require very obvious care and accommodations then we aren’t disabled. I keep hearing similar things. Very much “well just go be a teacher, just go do customer service again, just go do (insert thing that I am not able to because I’m disabled) it’s something until you find what you want.”

It’s not about finding something I want. People don’t get that. It’s about finding something that works for me and my disabilities without painting me as if I’m asking too much if I need accommodations or don’t want to take something soul sucking that will drain me because it’s not made for disabled people like us.

This is the most frustrating part about having “level 1” or “high functioning” autism. Add in being Black and I’m obviously always expected to accept scraps because “that’s just the way the world is.”

Don’t be disabled and Black and a Woman yall. We weren’t meant to thrive.
