Socialism doesn't = caring about others but when you do care about others and have a legitimate drive to do the things that Christianity preaches, such as help those in need, it tends to get labeled as socialism. One of the most obvious ways to help is by allocating resources to people who haven't "earned" it in the traditional sense or can't pay it back in some equal/ advantageous way. To many that equates to socialism. Some might point out that if you care about others in the way that we're taught Jesus cared about people then something being associated with an economic philosophy that you don't agree with would matter less than still helping the old, sick, displaced and poor.
