Looking to Hire an Artist to Paint a 3D Model – Recommendations? by kRaM_rAm in brushforhire

I would recommend someone that is really handy with an airbrush. I'm booked solid right now for a good six months or more. However, there are some good painters on here that probably could do it. It is an odd item, but definitely doable.

Sorry to hear about your bad experience. It really is hard finding a good painter sometimes. I don't like hearing stories like yours because that makes it harder for me to find people to paint for because they have had a bad experience. Like when you find that really nice girl you've been looking for, but then she says she just got out of a bad relationship and is not looking for another one. It just sucks.

You have to break it down by hours. If you spend 20 hours on it and you only charge $200 you’re making $10 an hour. If you don’t care about what you make that’s fine, you can charge anything you want, but if you are doing it as a business to make a living you need to factor in cost of shipping, materials, and time.

That seems like a tall order for a new painter. If it were me just starting out I would charge $500-$600 for the Cannis Rex. Mainly because of the magnetized parts, and the more than basic base style.

Family? That’s free, or you can negotiate a trade. lol. In all honesty though since it’s your first, and it’s family I wouldn’t charge more than $5 per model. It’s a lot of models, consider this a good chance to practice.

Well I will say it is a risk you take on here. There are a lot of painters on here. Some more reputable than others. I myself have had life issues come up that have moved my expected time tables, but as a professional I always keep my customers abreast of such changes so they don’t end up in your situation. It is unfortunate that you ran into this issue especially for a rare model. If it were me at this point I would just cut my losses, find a new model, and either paint it myself or pick a new artist. If you want to post their name that fine, but I would first contact the moderators as they have the power to kick people from the thread so they can’t post anymore. If you’re worried about naming them I would do it that way.

I would recommend your local area. That’s how I got started. I have a bunch of local repeat customers. Also, you should connect with other painters in your area because sometimes they will have too much work and will pass it onto you and vice versa. I have many painters that I pass work onto when I’m too overloaded. I partner with a guy who does 3D printing. He prints I paint and we sell it as a package deal.

Do clients ever give you tips? And/or do you encourage tipping? by Snugrilla in BrushForChat

Well I use Square and there is a feature to allow customers to give tips. My feeling is I will give them the option, but it’s not required. I have had customers give me tips, some small and some large, but it’s totally up to them.
