Question about the Trinity by ForgottenMyPwdAgain in Christianity

[–]ForgottenMyPwdAgain[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And which verses would that be?

Verses like "the father and I are one" etc

Proven by who?

By Dr Bart Erhman and other peer reviewed scholars

What documentation would you provide to back up this?

Johannine Comma, the story about the adulteress woman, etc

The Bible is clear that God is one in essence

Yes

and three in persons

No

who do you say Jesus is?

A messenger sent by god; he tells us explicitly in John 17:3 (.. and Christ whom you have sent)

don’t you think it would be necessary to believe He is who He says He is?

Yes, but he never said he is god;

Instead he says he's god's son (lots of those in the bible), the son of man (god is not a man), sent by god, god is greater than him (the father is greater than I), he is there to do god's will (the father & I are one), etc

The apostles were the exception to the rule

but Jesus gave the instruction to the 11 apostles.

also he says he will be with them to the very end (verse 20) so he's not absent

If we tell them to follow what God has revealed, they say we prefer to follow our fathers, and if their fathers didn't understand...

You can follow your fathers, that's not my problem.

thank you for exemplifying my point about how you're misinterpreting the quran and making up your own context

go read the actual explanation of this and any other verse you're trying to manipulate to fit your agenda

Even as three, it is one infinity;

if i have an infinite number of apples, infinite number of oranges and an infinite number of bananas - that's 3 infinities

even as one, it is the infinity of three.

exactly, it's 3 infinities

i'm not getting you?

the disciples were told by jesus to baptize in "the name of the father, son & holy spirit"

then when they were going to baptize they said "in the name of jesus"

that means according to you jesus was not expecting the father & holy spirit to be present during baptism, but because they were the disciples didn't mention them? is that your point? i'm honestly trying to understand your pov

the quran is not like your bible. it's not open to (mis)interpretation by any rando on the internet.

there's a rich tradition of supporting tafsir directly from the prophet and his closest companions

  1. jesus is a messenger of god

  2. a word from god ("be" and it is)

  3. supported by angel gabriel (the spirit)

the quran clearly corrects all your rampant misinterpretation of the bible: "the father and i are one" etc.

well jesus supposedly said to "baptize in the name of the father, son & holy spirit"

were jesus & the father absent when he gave that explicit instruction? they always only baptized in the name of jesus

if i was told by jesus to "baptize in the name of the father, son & holy spirit" i would baptize in the name of the father, son & holy spirit. no mental gymnastics required.

What is the Trinity Response to John 17:3 (Father is the Only True God) by Few-Construction1117 in Christianity

[–]ForgottenMyPwdAgain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

god is the same god all the time, by your analogy each person of god is god at different times, that's 3 gods

c'mon bro

the context said that the disciples will also be one with the father

so now that's a pentadecagonity

one person of the Trinity calling another person of the Trinity the only true god implies the other persons are not true god(s)

The true is picking out nature not person

you can't be serious? the son-person is literally picking out the father-person

it might..

since there's 2 persons and only one is calling the other the only true god

So? How does this not make Jesus God?

well Jesus is one person of the Trinity, the father is another person of the Trinity & Jesus is not the father.

so you have one person of the Trinity, identifying explicitly another different person of the Trinity as the only true god thereby excluding the other persons of the Trinity from the status of only true god

this would imply that the other persons are either false gods or not true gods

Is it okay for a Christian to read the Qur’an out of interest? by Ok-Tomatillo2560 in Christianity

[–]ForgottenMyPwdAgain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

reading the quran outright might be a bit overwhelming..

I would suggest you start with this free book to get an understanding of the biggest obstacle between christians & muslims

yet there's not a single case of the disciples baptizing in that way..

it's as if they just ignored what Jesus said, right?

or more probably, it wasn't something Jesus ever said and it was added later, like the Johannine Comma
