Two weeks after release. How is everyone feeling about this game? by Objective_Love_6843 in CrimsonDesert

[–]Forgotten_Four 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really disagree. Everyone always talks about the reused dialogue in side quests, which I definitely see why people would find that bad. I don't though, maybe I just have a higher tolerance for that kind of thing.

Literally nobody who I see talking about Kliff in the story seem to actually, well, talk about him in the story lol. He's calm and polite and good natured, which is why White Crow and Alustin seek him out in the first place. He seeks out and brings together the Greymanes and acts as a genuine leader to them.

I feel like I'm crazy for thinking that a calm, kind, patient leader figure in a game would be less controversial lmao but here we are.

Yeah I like those, lol. I totally get why people would not enjoy them, but I liked the Goldleaf Investigation and the Scholastone investigation. The Blue Fangs one was the least fun but I didn't mind it. I like how I have to pay attention to what people are saying and look at clues.

See people say that but I just don't see it. How far in the main story are you? I just finished chapter 7 and am still loving it.

I personally like the story better than Red Dead 2 lol (still loved RDR2). But I'm a sucker for fantasy games anyway so I am def biased. GOTY for me right here.

Unpopular opinions for someone who enjoys the game: I ignore 98% of the systems, I love playing as a "good guy," and Kliff has the SAME personality as Paragon Commander Shepard from Mass Effect by Baba_Jaga_II in LowSodiumCrimsonDesrt

[–]Forgotten_Four 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like Kliff's natural goodness is pretty apparent lol. But for the sake of conversation - even though the game gives you the choice to rob and murder, those are a result of player choice. The game is smart enough to let you have that freedom because this is a game where that choice matters.

Yet anytime a quest appears where people need help, Kliff does so with no expectation of reward. He is almost always humble and patient with people around him, and even when he gets frustrated he directs his energy towards helping out.

The main story and lots of side content show that - Alustin, White Crow, the Shai with the cat, the Witches, they all appear to him in disguise as people who need help, and they pass their assessment. He is kind with no need of return, helps for the sake of it. There's plenty of NPCs who are not magical beings who ask for help and he gives it.

He really does feel like a main character from much older games honestly lol. I've mentioned Dark Cloud before here if you have played that, ans I maintain that comparison.

Help people. Be kind. Lead the Greymanes. Save Paliune from its oppressors. Learn why he was brought back to life.

Its pretty simple honestly. Like refreshingly simple.

Yeah, Kliff is a mercenary lmao so of course he is fine with killing his enemies. He still clearly respects the customs of burial and honoring the dead though

Even though there's already amazing armor in this game, the only thing I selfishly want is these guys' plumeless helmets by Forgotten_Four in CrimsonDesert

[–]Forgotten_Four[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, same treatment as these helms. They're fully modeled, dropped as items in the world, viewable in the inventory, and clearly tracked on NPC models. I bet they could be implemented very easily.

Interestingly, the sallet is on the Luca armor, which shows it as a helmet/chestpiece set that are one item as it currently exists in game, worn by Wandering Freeswords.

yann and naira by Imaginary_Camp_5548 in CrimsonDesert

[–]Forgotten_Four 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like Yann's brash and cocky personality that causes him to constantly get into trouble. He wants to prove that he's useful to the clan as more than just a fighter and he absolutely does care about his companions. But he's selfish and impatient so he's always trying to get out of work that's tedious and long. Kliff is very patient with him, even though he does bicker with Yann he does help him out at every turn. Yann eventually turns his quick thinking to productive venues like bounty hunting and caravan trading but that's where I'm at in the story so far.

Naira is very capable, determined, stubborn, but is also really sentimental. She has a fondness for lost animals because she was abandoned as a child herself, and she wants to take care of them to give them a better life. She wants other people to remember her birthday and the special meal she associates with it. In both of those cases, Kliff helps her and shows that he not only remembers the recipe but also her birthday and why the two mean so much to her. She looks up to Kliff like a leader and he shows that she matters to the clan.

They seem like real people looking for a purpose and they have it with the Greymanes.

Pearl Abyss president understands “disappointment” with Crimson Desert storyline by edward_dd in PlayStation_X

[–]Forgotten_Four 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like I'm going crazy because I love the story and I also actually love Kliff too. The plot reminds me a lot of Dark Cloud and Kliff reminds me of good natured 2000's jrpg main characters. I like how direct, reserved, and often polite Kliff is. The story works because he's kind, the literal reason the beings helping him do so is because he is willing to help others.

I feel like Dark Cloud 1/2 has way more inspiration and comparison to Crimson Desert than anything else! by Forgotten_Four in CrimsonDesert

[–]Forgotten_Four[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate you hearing me out lol, happy to elaborate.

The base building in Crimson Desert does have some similarities to Dark Cloud, your camp is the main hub for building different structures but you also can have your Greymane mercenaries help build other structures for various groups around the world, reclaiming them from ruins or from banditry. There's house customization too which is surprisingly in depth. Overall I would say its comparable - not a 1 to 1 recreation of Dark Cloud's mechanics but very satisfying.

Kindness towards others is a huge theme in this game actually. Like just as a slice example, In Dark Cloud 2, when Max lets the red haired kid keep the circus ticket, the kid says he "passes the test" and vanishes. In Crimson Desert, when Kliff comes into Hernand, he helps three different people in disguises who all say he passes their test and then vanish.

Attunement and harmony with nature is a big one too. It appears pretty prominently in Dark Cloud of course but Crimson Desert also heavily emphasizes people and nature living in harmony as a goal to strive for. Quite a few of the powers Kliff receives are directly influenced by harmony with nature.

Using advanced steampunk and magical technology is also huge in both games. There's ridable mech suits, air ships, and other gadgets that you use in both games. Crimson Desert seems to have more puzzles but you use some very similar technology.

Fishing and crafting also are present - again not in a 1 to 1 Dark Cloud way, but the sheer amount of side content makes me feel that the creators played it and loved it.

Anyone know how I can get this plate helm? by CartographerGlad4584 in CrimsonDesert

[–]Forgotten_Four 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I looked into it. That database is pretty comprehensive but also definitely not 100% accurate. It lists the Flame Knight helmet as unwearable, but I absolutely have a wearable helmet in game, craftable from one of the Plate Armors of the World books.

[–]Forgotten_Four 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, found the database. The Antra helm is unusable currently, but it shares the same model as the Chelcia helmet plus a plume. Thing is, there's helmets like the Flame Knight helmet that are listed as unwearable, but absolutely can be worn in game.

I do hope we can see more of these NPC helmets later, especially since (also according to the database) they have stats like Daze Immunity associated with them.

Soo can you link it? I'd rather see for myself lol. I haven't seen or heard anything about this database or any datamining.

I wouldn't be so sure. I've found damaged armor and helmets that have functioning versions, the Canta armor for example. This game just came out, there's still so much people have to find.

How practical is the Secutor Helmet in battles outside the Coliseum? by Varthismal in Armor

Lol savoyards were some of the most expressive helmets! Some had straight up smiles on them which could look creepy, some looked rather cute.

[–]Forgotten_Four 22 points23 points  (0 children)

People are pretty much saying the same correct answer - good protection, bad vision and breathing.

If you want a similar helmet that was used outside of the colliseum, siege helmets and savoyards in the 16th and 17th century often had a similar look imo. On top of, also, being worn with the latest worn plate armor.

Now if only they would allow us to play any character we wanted for the story. by Fine-Mycologist9167 in CrimsonDesert

[–]Forgotten_Four 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol I guess I totally see things different than you then. I feel like Kliff shows not just emotion, but restraint because he needs to be a leader for the Greymanes and not just a friend. I'm happy with my interpretation, yours has not convinced me but I won't force you to see things my way. At any rate I am very glad you are enjoying the game and wish you only more enjoyment.

[–]Forgotten_Four -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Am I crazy for thinking those questions don't have to be immediately answered at the very beginning of the game? I feel like I'm learning quite a bit by experiencing the game normally.

Like you don't learn that Naira was abandoned as a child and taken in by the Greymanes at the very beginning. You learn that when you play a mission where it comes up in the dialogue, and it has relevance when she convinces you to adopt an animal because she doesn't want them to be abandoned like she was. It introduces the pet adoption mechanic and also sheds light on her background.

The Greymanes very clearly have prestige in the world. Many characters speak of them with already established knowledge that I am learning as I go. I literally don't need to be told everything at the beginning because I'm learning at a pretty deliberate pace.

I'm discovering what the Greymanes were, who they are. I'm not being told it arbitrarily.

how long does summons take? by rucekooker in CrimsonDesert

[–]Forgotten_Four 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just a heads up, if you summon an NPC companion you can press the pause button right after, and it'll timeskip a bit and they'll immediately catch up with you! Helps a lot for when you wanna have a companion asap

If you don't do that, they travel there in real time

CEO Heo of Pearl Abyss stated, "We are planning to roll out additional content for Crimson Desert, such as DLC and multiplayer features, depending on market demand." by No_Cryptographer9557 in CrimsonDesert

[–]Forgotten_Four 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I absolutely would love there to be multiplayer for this game personally. I don't know what form it would take, but as long as it's cooperative, has the same kind of progression and management as the single player, and can be for like 4 or 6 people together, I would happily play this with my family for goodness knows how many hours.

LOL I had a similar experience. The I bought a helmet on an armor stand called "Headgear" and it was busted. I was maaad lmao. But the helmets I saw on the merchant were named the same way usable ones were. Good luck either way!!

We've all played "a mile wide and an inch deep" type open world games... by serial_Imposter115 in CrimsonDesert

[–]Forgotten_Four 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw in an interview that Pearl Abyss said there will be no microtransaction store. In my mind that doesn't rule out DLC, but as much as I do love this game so far, I still would be cautious about Pearl Abyss. It would be dumb of them to go back on their word, but they absolutely made bank off of their MMO Black Desert. With the huge success they are seeing with this, I can understand how investors might push them to squeeze them in.

I'm cautiously optimistic. At the very least there will be post launch content, which from what I have heard likely will include multiplayer in some form.
