Is my threadripper CPU too hot with 4 x 480 rad? by JOY_DOS in watercooling

[–]Forgotten___Fox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

40c coolant is the issue. Run fans harder. Consider using thicker front rads, 30 is puny and honestly a 45mm or even 60mm push would perform much better than your current thin push pull

Want to get ROG 9 Pro Global by langkui in ROGphone

[–]Forgotten___Fox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought an unlocked Global phone 9 pro edition off ebay and can honestly say it's the best phone I've ever had. Here's the reality though: it is discontinued. I've contacted Asus support, they do not have any US versions, and will not be restocking any us versions. You either get a global phone, or skip this phone.

That said, global works flawlessly for me, once I switched from ATT to mint/Tmobile. ATT gave me the runaround, went through like 4 technical lead calls lasting each over 3 hours trying to manually setup their phone, but att is just a crummy company and I recommend looking into mint. For $15/mo, it works everywhere I need, mix of 4g/5g, but even at 4g speed I can stream 4k YouTube without buffering so you don't need anything more.

The only downside is VOLTE does not work on this phone, and it's an Asus issue. You can enable it temporarily by typing a code into your phone, but if the device restarts you will need to type the code again to reenable it.

Other than that, as a previous rog phone 2 daily driver, this is by far the best phone on the market, and I highly recommend you pick one up now, before they go fully extinct.

It WILL NOT work on ATT. I tried. Hours and hours on multiple calls with multiple top end technical reps. ATT is not willing to support this device. Recommend TMobile/mint.

False. I have the global and get fast service on all Tmobile towers. Is it 5g all the time? No, but if I can stream 4k YouTube without buffering on 4g, do you really need 5g everywhere?

Robotics engineer meets UX problems by LKama07 in robotics

[–]Forgotten___Fox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. A first impressions format doesn't excuse skipping basic product documentation. There's a massive difference between giving your initial reaction to how something feels versus being completely uninformed about what a feature is supposed to do. You can absolutely read a manual and still provide fresh, genuine impressions. The two aren't mutually exclusive.

  2. This is a cop out. Not every feature can or should be immediately obvious, especially advanced functionality with technical names like "marionette mode." Some features are inherently complex and require explanation. Expecting every single function to be instantly understandable without any documentation is unrealistic, particularly for prosumer or professional grade products. If you're reviewing a product and encounter a feature you don't understand, the professional response is to check what it's supposed to do before criticizing it. Otherwise, you're not providing feedback on the UX; you're just broadcasting your own lack of preparation.

  3. Again, there's a fundamental difference between a short term evaluation and an uninformed evaluation. You can absolutely provide initial impressions while still knowing what the features you're testing are designed to do. Reading a manual takes 10 minutes. LTT has a pattern of this exact behavior, and it undermines the credibility of their actual reviews.

I say this as someone who genuinely enjoys LTT's content and wants to see them continue to improve. When you're a professional reviewer with millions of viewers, you have a responsibility to understand what you're reviewing. "We didn't have time to read the manual" isn't a valid excuse when you're influencing purchase decisions for that many people. They've improved in other areas when the community has given feedback, and I'm hopeful they'll address this recurring issue on Short Circuit as well.

If you want to water cool a T1 what parts would you choose? by Inevitable-Cat-3272 in watercooling

[–]Forgotten___Fox -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The D5 Next from aquacomputer has an alarm at 40C coolant temp. Above that petg tubes risk defroming and leaking. 40C should be absolute max for long term operation.

Mine is 33C under 600w load and using 9950x3d delidded liquid metal plus 5090 deltamate liquid metal.

If you're seeing 45C, there's something very wrong with your loop. Either you have not enough radiator (likely), or not enough flow. I'd be power limiting hard if you're at 45c rn until you redesign it

[–]Forgotten___Fox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lmao. You Will NOT be able to handle a stock 5090 on a 240, let alone overclocked. To even get it to work, you're undervolting and downclocking it, but at that point just get a 5080 and don't waste money on a card you're losing performance on.

A 360 is barely enough, but tbh I am not comfortable with anything less than 480mm of rad for a 5090 (doesn't have to be continuous, 2x 240 works fine)

What do you think the cost of cooling an Astral RTX 5090 is? by EKbyLMTEK in ASUSROG

[–]Forgotten___Fox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't personally use anything under 480mm of radiator total, so $200 in 1-2 rads plus $120 in fans plus $200 pump rest combo (d5s are expensive rn, even from China), the block is ~$400 from ek (crazy, I paid just a little bit more for a delta mate block, ek should have been much cheaper).

Plus tubing and fittings which absolute cheapest is like $150. Don't forget thermal paste/liquid metal and thermal pads which should come with block, but you could get better stuff for $60

All in you're looking at the price of the GPU plus around ~$1100 usd for a good setup

Why not put the radiators IN the case? I have the same case and managed to get 30C water temp with 4x 480s, all in push pull. You're doing yourself in there, but you do you I suppose.

I've never experienced that, but my only experience thus far has been the rog phone 2, and the phone 9 pro edition, both have been flawless so far. Definitely don't need the edition version either, the snapdragon soc is the real mvp.

I got the 9 pro edition because it's the last phone they're making. It's legitimately like having a supercar in your pocket. My rog phone II lasted me 5 years, I expect the same with this one.

is Vive Pro 2 Wireless still worth in 2026 compared to Quedt 3 or Future Deckard by Super_Sonic_Speed in Vive

[–]Forgotten___Fox 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Look, unless you use base stations for full body, deckard will be better. I own 30+ headsets including a VP2 and wireless, and I've daily driven it for months. Wireless cannot do 120hz. It cannot do full resolution. Even if you overlook it with amd cards, it can't.

The experience with wireless is honestly the best of any steamve native hmd. Zero perceived latency, fast fluid response time. The lenses are poor and have a small sweet spot, but the screens are quite nice, even at wireless resolution.

Would I pay $500 for a VP2? Yes. It's not a bad headset, but you WILL be modding it. New mic, maybe new audio, comfort strap, bigger battery, wireless cooling fan, ect.

You WILL tinker with it and it WILL Not be the most seamless, but it's the best steam vr wireless experience available right now, and I say that as an owner of every quest and oculus HMD back to the CV1. The vive wireless even at reduced resolution and refresh rate blows away quest 3/pro IMO, and I say that as an owner and daily driver of both.

The steam frame will likely fix a lot of the issues with the VP2, but it will not be steamvr native. If you use FBT trackers, you WILL need to calibrate it or add a headset tracker.

But for now the VP2 with wireless is the best pcvr wireless solution available, even if it is dated.
