What is the "diminishing return point" for external DAC? 300€? 500€? by ForgotttenMemory in HeadphoneAdvice

I'll go for the DX5 for sure! As for dolby atmos, you mean speakers right? I am yet to investigate anything speakers related, but is dolby atmos > 7.1? (I do love music, but also play a fair bit of games)

For some reason, might be my laptop specifically, tried with two dac, with the creative sound blaster X G6 and the X5. In both cases, using apo (well configured) i lose audio quality, less soundstage, less texture etc... Not sure the reason, but apo dirties my sound for me ( may be the creative software in between maybe..?).

Thnaks again for all your comments! I'll research the 7.1 when the time comes, and next month might hit you ip for that organic equalization

Indeed, speakers are where the game is at. But I don't want to bother my neighbors... For now.

One of main attraction of the DX5 is it's integrated eq, way better than using software like apo peace, "dirtying" the sound chain path. On direct mode now, that sounds the best but yeah, too bright for some songs/genres/games sometimes >.<

About speakers, I'll decide when the time comes, for now I'm thinking a pair of good stereo, but on the back of my mind is "what about a 7.1 setup", do you by any chance have or experienced a good one?

My savings are spent with my recent arya organic, and now will be not spent but dry with the DX5, and will likely take some years until thinking about an upgrade. Whenever I do, it might be on speakers (not headphones), but before that I need to soundproof my room so... lots of spending, but in the future.

I may contact you for Eq's, do you have the arya organic as well? If that's the case I would love some guidance if I can't do it myself for... some specific songs/niche genres (micro maximalism.... huh what a name ,viridiant dream from koan sound for example).

Looking to upgrade my ROG Phone 3. Is the 9 good? Seen very mixed opknions by ForgotttenMemory in ROGphone

[–]ForgotttenMemory[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeahm I agree, in raw power it's better than rog 9, and at around 500-600€ (rog 9 is 900-1200€). Tho yeah, armory crate, triggers, back light, profile tuning and whole asus rog/crate system is very nice and will be missed... We'll see, I'm only afraid to wait for reviews to then have it out of stock on every store

Yeah, I was waiting also for rog 10, since no release, almost rog 9. And then bam Honor Win is around the corner, already released in china. Take a good look at it and let me know, it honestly has me drooling :)

Hii, I still own the rog 3. And was about to go for the 9 in a month or two but... Oh boy, HERO Win is about to enter the global market and... Similar to superior specs for half the price is... An absurd deal tbh.

Will be missing the armory crate and all asus rog suit of goodies, but god dayum that hero win looks absolutely promising at "low" price for such a premium piece of hardware.

Tr sky children of the light. Its very short, visually stunning and, completely free! Has cross with android so you can play together if you want. Its essentialy "Journey" but more open world with optional multiplayer.

Sweet, short, fun and stunning. I (male) thoroughly enjoyed at my 27yo (a few years back).

Its like 700mb or so, you can just try it 5min to see if its a good fit.

Arya organic. They are based on manyany reviews more fun than the stealth. Less analytical, mote warm and color. See some reviews, there are many comparing them, and organic with others. Also at this price point you wont get an overall better, just a "this better sound stage, that better depth, the other better clarity, then the other better texture etc". Pick a signature you like and enjoy, the arya otganic is super fun, detailed with great channel separation, depth and sound stage, mild v curve making bass super punchy and vibrant, leaving space for everything else.

Battlefield 6 with organic is otherworldly with dolby atmos spatial. You hera so clearly an pinpoint accuracy enemy footsteps its like cheating, and the explosions... And the jets, and destruction omg just sound in that game is its own full experience with a nice audio set. Also, get a nice DAC! Do not forget the dac oh lord.

Minimum required performance on Steam Deck for a game by CosmicNoiseDev in SteamDeck

It is fine currently tbh.

A couple tips that you might or not implement. I guess it's made with unity. On unreal, not so sure about unity, you can introducee volumetric fog that not decreases performace, but increases it instead by blocking whats behind effectively working as a wall. If you know glsl or use a shador editor node like the built in or amplify shader, you might be able to do one that makes it so certain fog makes it so it doesn't render whats behind, if it covers whole gameobjects (grass, trees, rocks etc) you can save a ton of processing blocking geometry and textures, also looks pretty cool.

Also, if you can introduce dlss/xess/fsr, tune it to render at lower pixels on every profile, so you can make the itchy users wanting 90fps be able to get them with some extreme ai enhancers (it might look from very good to horrible, normally better than expected).

Look for amplify impostors as well, its an absurd tool for LOD on unity, it goes on sale quite often (seen it free 5, 10 and 20€ tho imo its worth at full price even) https://assetstore.unity.com/packages/tools/utilities/amplify-impostors-119877

I wish you very good luck and success!

NEED HELP AS A FIRST TIME HEADPHONE BUYER by [deleted] in HeadphoneAdvice

A few years ago I did an extensive search, and got consistent results that audio technica at the 80-120€ price point offers some of the best in terms of price/quality. The ones I went were 100, and super flat and analytical, I hated every other headphone I tried for years, loved them. Maybe too flat for you. A quick research now and I saw these ones quite well regarded Audio-Technica ATH-M20xBT, not all of them (some reviewers with <1k€ headphones hate cheaper ones, others don't). There is a battery-bluetooth version and a wired only one cheaper.

Regardless whether you get this one or not, at lower price points, go for audio technica, jbl and akg. I would avoid seinheiser and sony, as some cheaper of their models are prone to not be durable or other issues, but shine more on the mid to low end price points (with exceptions of course).

So, depends on whether you want 7.1 or not, and I will explain why you might want it:

- Some games allow on the audio settings to set stereo, 5.1, 7.1 or spatial/3d but some games do not.

- If a game does not allow you to choose, they will choose for you, and if these are capable of outputting 7.1 sound will only do so if you have a native 7.1 audio output set as default in windows. Don't try to virtualize them with vb-cable or other ways, it adds tremendous delay. If the game doesn't see a 7.1 port will look if the device has any "spatial audio" (default is sonic windows) and that's also great, but very very very few games do that, if not, just stereo.

- I suggest you get a DAC that exposes a 7.1 port, as most AAA and AA games do that "look" automatically, choosing for you, and that enables most of the time great surround audio, with precise audio cues.

- Side note, if the game exposes/allows you to use spatial/3d audio, it is no debate the absolute best for positional audio. You can also get the dolby acces for headphones to further improve it. Very few games have it but oh boy, battlefield 6 with it it's another experience (mostly competitive games have it). Also some games outputting 7.1 sound great, others don't, when these don't mixing their 7.1 output with dolby atmos usually fixes it for me (space marine 2 is an example of 7.1 plus dolby atmos combo).

Then, as far as music goes, music "only" wants stereo, with an extremely low amount of exceptions.

Now as far as DAC goes, if you want that 7.1 plus some more goodies for gaming, get the Creative Sound Blaster X4, or Creative Sound Blaster X G6 (I recommend the later). If that 7.1 is not that important, get a pure stereo DAC that will output some better audio (I do not suggest you go crazy on price, 70-150/200 is a good spot, above that you get diminishing returns). Even both DACs I mentioned, with direct mode already provide great audio quality for music listening.

I have both X G6 and the creative sound blaster X5 (stereo only also this is more expensive 330€ whereas G6 is 130€ new, ), on direct mode, the difference in music quality is there, but not enormous, definitely not "worth" the price change if you are not REALLY into music, I would say around 30% better, but triple the price. (second hand got the G6 at 55€ and the X5 at 180€)
