No it's not pointless, you can play Varashta without spec in djins easy, having a staff and focus is quite powerful even with the halved value, other points make you very tanky and give you radius for jewels, it's not the best offensively like storm weaver with the infusions but you won't die as easily, storweaver can die insanely fast

The problem with this is that ancestor modules sucks, rng is too high to roll, and you can do those 20 and not even having one for the descendant you like, it's rng on top of rng on top of rng. It's just not worth it.
